    Garagehammer - Batreps

Hey there all! I'm starting this thread to do batreps for the friendly games my friends and I play at my home. Hope you all enjoy. I'll type up the first one after this post and let you all know how it turned out. Cheers!

    Re: Garagehammer - Batreps

The terrain consisted of a tower (impassable), building (impassable), x4 rock formations (impassable), a khemrian quicksand, blood forest, and a charnal pit.

WoC gained the initiative and went first. Turn#1

Movement No charges; all chaos units advance while Vulgoth ducks behind the building to get around to the rear of the Chaos Warriors. The hounds enter the forest and it is determined to be a blood forest (we didn't know ahead of time).

Magic Vulgoth casts Fleshy Abundance on the Chaos Warriors (failed)

    No Shooting
    No Close Combat

    OK Turn#1

    Movement
Giant charges the warhounds which opt to flee.
Ogres IG/butcher advance towards the marauders.
Leadbelchers, Bulls and Tyrant angle and move towards the Shaggoth. The leadbelchers clip the quicksand but pass their test.
Knoblers follow in behind the giant.

    Magic
Butcher casts Bonecrusher on the mauraders; dispel attempt fails - and they take 5 wounds.
Butcher casts Toothcracker on IG and takes a wound.

    Shooting None
    Combat None

*Overall an uneventful turn. The two armies are just setting up position and getting ready to bring the pain.

    Re: Garagehammer - Batreps

    WoC Turn#2

Movement; hounds flee and don't rally after running from the giant.
Marauders and Chariot both charge the IG. Horsemen continue to maneuver around the impassible terrain trying to ride hard and fast up behind enemy lines. The hound group in the blood forest moves slightly forward. Vulgoth continues to creep around the building behind the advancing chaos warriors. The Shaggoth advances but stops short of giving the OK player a solid charge from the giant.

Magic; Vulgoth uses the Rod of Torment on the Belchers dealing 2 wounds. He casts IF with Fleshy Abundance (on the Chaos Warriors) and proceeds to be removed from play as he is cast into the realm of chaos.....ugh.

Combat; Chariot deals impact hits and gets 4 wounds on the IG - taking out one. Bal Sagoth challenges the IG champ and demolishes him before he can land a blow (+1 overkill). The IG guts fight back hard landing 3 wounds, but are swiftly finished off by the minions of Khorne. The marauders reform oriented towards the butcher.

    OK Turn#2

Movement; Bulls charge the Chaos Warriors who fail their terror test from the tyrant...ugh again (and forgot to re-roll panic because of Will of Chaos....::grinding teeth:. Warriors flee but do not get caught. Giant puts itself between the bulls and the Shaggoth and Knobby's advance behind the giant. Belchers reform to face the marauders and Hero. Butcher moves back behind the quicksand.

Magic; Butch casts Bonecrusher on the horsemen taking out 4 and gets 1 wound on himself. The remaining one panics and high-tails it back the way it came. Butch then casts Blood Gruel and regains the lost wound. I got no dispels.

Shooting; Tyrant unloads a brace of pistols on the Shaggoth and deals no wounds.
    Combat; none

    Re: Garagehammer - Batreps

    WoC Turn#3

Movement; hounds continue to flee. Marauder horseman flees - no IC for him this game. Warriors flee - again. Shaggoth charges the giant. Hero charges the Butch - leaving his unit (in hindsight a poor choice on my part - but a fun attempt). Butcher flees resulting in a failed charge for Bal Sagoth. Marauders begin to maneuver towards the Lead Belchers.

Magic; stupid IF and lost to chaos....none.
    Shooting; none
Combat; Shaggoth pummels the slave giant for 3 wounds and takes none in return.

    OK Turn#3

Movement; Butch rallies. Knobby's charge Shaggoth and fail. Bulls/Tyrant charge Shaggoth into the flank. Ouchy.
Magic; Butch casts Bonecrusher on Bal Sagoth for a wound. Once again...what is this dispelling you speak of? The dice gods hated me this game on the dispel rolls.
Shooting; Belchers open fire on Bal Sagoth mowing him down in a hail of fire - RIP. I should note to you all that I feel like a chimp with an Ipod at this point because I forgot completely about "look out sir" within 3" of my marauder unit. Both my friend and I are new to Warhammer 8th. This was his first game ever with his new Ogres, and my first time facing OK.
Combat; Bulls/Tyrant deal 2 wounds to the Shaggoth and the Shaggoth dealt 1 wound to the giant. The poor guy then proceeded to get a beat down pummeling by the Tyrant - 2 wounds, and was tamped into the dirt by the remaining bulls. The giant and bulls/tyrant reform.

    WoC Turn#4

Movement; Horseman quits the field having reached the table edge. The warhounds and chaos warriors rally! Marauders charge the lead belchers and they flee - failed charge. Chariot charges the Butch - who flees off the board - yea! No more gut magic.

    Magic; none
    Shooting; none
    Combat; none

    OK Turn#4

Movement; Belchers rally! Bulls/Tyrant charge the chaos warriors. Knobby's charge the hounds and fail.
    Magic; none
    Shooting; none
Combat; Bulls deal 3 wounds on impact hits to the warriors. Warriors hack at the Tyrant with 9 attacks and deal no wounds. Tyrant and Bulls dish out 7 more wounds to the warriors, and stomp for 3 more. Warriors flee....again. Bulls/Tyrant restrain and reform to face the incoming hounds. I made a critical error that I normally wound have not made but it slipped my mind not having faced OK. Didn't realize the Tyrant is a Lord choice (probably real tough), and opted to hack at him rather than the unit. Would have got more combat rez and wounds attacking the bulls. Oh well...next time then.

Turn 4 pictures....a little confusing. My fiancee kept the camera zoomed in and it's hard to take in the whole battle.

    WoC Turn#5

Movement; Warriors fail to rally....flee off board. Hounds charge Knobby's who flee and are run down. Grrrr...... Second group of hounds charge the Bulls/Tyrant - Ty stands and shoots with a brace of pistols killing 2. The second hounds flee losing 25% and failing panic. Marauders move on the march.

    Magic; none
    Shooting; none
    Combat; none

    OK Turn#5

Movement; Bulls/Tyrant charge marauders and fail. Giant charges marauders.
    Magic; none
Shooting; Belchers unload on the chariot - blasting it to pieces.
Combat; Giant picks up and throws back a marauder - 2 wounds as the marauders dodge the incoming-screaming missile. Giant thunderstomp and marauder great weapons go last. The T-stomp deals 3 wounds and the marauders smash the giant down in a flurry of frenzied blows.....then the giant falls on them. 7 more die under the behemoths' girth.

    WoC - 993 VP

Current Record - Games Played in 8th (W/D/L)
    vs Skaven 4/2/1
    vs Beastmen 0/0/1
    vs OK 0/0/1

Hope you all enjoyed the report. Still learning the game, but having a great time. My opponent was quite sporting, and though he's never played 8th edition, he has dozens of games under his belt with previous editions of WHFB....quite nice to play against such an seasoned veteran; albeit one who hasn't played any WHFB for over 9yrs. I can learn alot from him. He says he's never lost a battle with O&G's....can't wait to face off against his greenskins! Until next time!

    Re: Garagehammer - Batreps

    Ogre Kingdoms Army Lists:

    Tyrant
Ogre Club, Brace of Handguns, Luck Gnoblar, Sword Gnoblars
Armor of Fortune, Daemon-killer Scars, Giantbreaker

    Butcher (lvl 2 wizard)
Hand Weapon, Luck Gnoblar, 2x Tooth Gnoblars
    Power Stone, Cathayan Jet

    5x Bulls
Ogre Club, Light Armor, Promote one to Bellower, Promote one to Standard Bearer, Lookout Gnoblar

    24x Gnoblar fighters
    Promote one to Groinbiter

    4x Ironguts
Great Weapon, Heavy Armor, Promote one to Gutlord, Promote one to Bellower, Promote one to Standard Bearer, Wailing Banner

    4x Leadbelchers
    Promote one to Bellower

    Slavegiant

    --------
Ogres are so incredibly points-heavy, but there are some choices I had to make. I'd been listening to the other games, and I realized that there was no way I could just relinquish the Magic Phase to him, so I grabbed a butcher, and gave him a ward save for that inevitable wizard's dual I was expecting.

All other choices were determined by the units available in a BN box, with the addition of the giant.

My bulls are modeled with Ironfists and hand weapons, but I'd discussed it with Warrior several days in advance they'd be bringing Ogre Clubs for this fight until I can model another unit with just the clubs. Expecting Chaos Warriors and Chaos Knights, I knew that a lot of soft hits would be worthless. That extra +1 Str from the ogre clubs would be well appreciated.

On a lark, I added a terror-causing banner to the Ironguts, and facial scars to the Tyrant, not having much experience with Chaos and that rather solid Mark of Khorne. It actually came in a little handy, but not so much that I'd say it was worth the points. In the future I'll be looking for something with some more BOOM.

Overall game I thought went rather well. Dice rolls were largely successful on both sides. The leadbelchers firing 28 shots on the chariot almost guaranteed a slaughter even after having to roll to-hits and to-wounds.

Unfortunately, there were not only several tactical mistakes but also some rules mistakes that affected the outcome of the game. Having identified these will make us better players in the future. I think one of the best things about this game is it forced Warrior to start developing concepts of maneuver corridors and such. I've long been an advocate of "terrain makes the game", whereas Warrior preferes just a fiew pieces with large sweeping areas allowing him to engage at whim. Terrain board advantage definitely went to me, having much more experience with limitations like that.

Overall, good game, fun play, delicious BBQ and great friends made it a truly exceptional afternoon! Next time, I might even have painted forces ....

Thanks all! BTW Brother....you actually won by +100VP more than that. Forgot to add in the killed General bonus. We each took a standard so that's as wash.

Hope we can get in another round of gaming this week since we're finally on the same shift for work. I've been trying to get the misses to break out her Skaven, but she's been busy.

@Seabo - Thanks! Good to be here!

@Warrior - Game on! We'll need to stick to the current 1500 though as I don't believe I'll be ready for the 2000 before this weekend. Any night is good by me.
