Hi, does anyone know what the eye colour is of the Skaven?
I've always seen them with red eyes...
I use red- you could do black though-
In literature, Skaven eye colour is usually described as being red.
However, if you look at the eye colour of the Skaven on the army book, their eyes are actually black.
Personally I have always painted their eyes black, as that is the colour of real-world rat eyes (well, non-albino rats anyway). I always just figured that their eyes were black normally, but shone red in the dark when exposed to lights (kind of like how big cats and crocodiles have "eye shine" when a torch is pointed at them at night).
Red generally. Mostly, I think, simply because they're evil and sinister and red eyes are synonymous with being evil and sinister.
If you want to be a bit more realistic, you could always go for black .
Would look good - especially if you put some gloss on it too but remember that you'll be painting hundreds of these guys so you might not want to spend so much time on such a tiny detail.
Red is probably the way to go.
I dont have a skaven army but if i was painting them id save red for either the albino rats (spell casters from what i have read of the skaven book) or just all heros and black on rank and file.
2013 OK lost count
I recommend black for just for a practical reason -when you have to paint 120 little rat eyes red you'll understand me.
This is the war-ravaged world of Warhammer, and there's only WAR!... and hammers.
I do mine in red. Typically it's a basecoat of red gore, then a spot highlight of blood red and then black ink around the edges. My plog has probably got some close ups.
It's extra effort which earlier posts show isn't really necessary. But I quite like the added effect.

I use yellow, and they stand out real well. Sunburst yellow on all troop types, and if I'm spending more time on a character I do a blood red, then a dot of sunburst yellow.
Skull white with black pupils?
Will Orc for food!
White here, I think it looks evil and kind of haunting:

I read through some of the book last week and if my (slightly dodgy) memory serves me right I think they specifically mention that grey seers (with their propensity towards albinism) have grey-white fur and red eyes - suggesting the writer considered the common ratty to not have red eyes.
However, I will admit the models do look cool painted with red. I still haven't got around to painting my IOB rats, but I may try them with black and a dot of white and see if that looks as good.
I think that the color yellow fits skaven pretty well![]()
Whatever colour you want them to be
Seriously, paint them whatever you think will look good or be easy. Red is the colour I've seen most commonly mentioned (to match the evil stereotype), but I seem to remember the odd mention of glowing green eyes in some of the black library fiction.
I think any of the Skaven who deal with a lot of warpstone (which really is all of them, but i'm thinking next to lethal dosages here) should get neon green eyes. Red for your magic weilders. And then a smattering of black and yellow for your rank and file. Thats just my opinion though. I always liked the look of it. Especially green on Rat Ogres, big uglies that they are.![]()
Well I would say naturally red but my furry friends get blessed with chunks of warpstone for eyes if they do well in battle.
All my little rat friends have glowing green eyes. Fluff wise my skaven are very exposed to warpstone, and paint wise it gives a nice contrast to my black/red colorscheme.
I'd say either red or yellow as a general rule
"From the fires of betrayal, Unto the blood of revenge, We bring the word of Lorgar, The Bearer of the Word, The favored son of Chaos; All praise be given unto him, For those that would not heed, We offer praise to those that do, That they might turn their gaze our way, And gift us with the boon of pain, To turn the galaxy red with blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods." - Excerpt of the 341st book of the Epistles of Lorgar.
