    Re: Scythe's Empire

    Well, I'm still alive .

It has been quite a while since my last update, since then I've been on two vacations, did quite some assembly work, and spend a lot of time painting my wood elves as well. Still, I am not without progress. I finished a big unit of state troops; 40 swordsmen:

I have also been working on some wizards, eventually I aim to have at least 1 wizard of each college. First up, the death wizard:

All in all, I am still confident I can achieve my goal and have a 3000 pts army painted by the end of the year. More updates later!

Groovy colour scheme dude! The dark blue, off-white and bronze goes together so well!

I like the use of alternative heads on the swordsmen, really makes them look a little different.

And thanks for the tip on full command groups in large missile units, I never thought of putting the magic banner into some Crossbowmen (or Handgunners for that matter). I'll remember that tip!

EDIT- Your Death Wizard is looking very dapper too!

Thanks! I'm quite satisfied how the colors turned out. Took me a while, but I am happy with the results. Simple and fast to apply, yet quite striking on the battlefield.

The swordsmen use spare pistolier / outrider heads I had lying around. I tried to give the unit a more 'elite' feel that way, as they are the best trained basic state troops. Plus, all those helmets give me more opportunity to paint bronze

Small update: two more wizards, brining my total up to five. I still need to paint a fire wizard, and assemble a life and beasts wizard (I won't be using the basic kit for those; I feel they need to be a little different, though I have no idea how exactly yet).

    Anyway, Heavens:

    And Shadows:

Groovy wizards! I like the telescope you added tot he Celestial Wizard, I may have to do something similar if I decide I want one of my own.

The Shadow Wizard's cool as well, did you green stuff the hat and staff?

    Re: Scythe's Empire

Thanks for all the kind replies! The inspiration for the Celestial wizard came from another project log I found on the forums, which did some great conversions for all 8 colleges, so honours for the idea go to him (damn, wish I could find that link).

The grey wizards hat and staff are indeed made from green stuff. I am not great with that, but simple conversions I can manage (just... )

    Some small updates, more artillery:

Which brings me to a healthy 6 pieces (2 cannons, 2 mortars, hellstorm and hellblaster), which will do for now. A steam tank will follow within a few months though.

But currently, my priority lies with painting cavalry. I have 20 more pistoliers/outriders to paint, which I am currently busy with, and which could take a while, as wood elves still takes up quite a bit of painting time as well. Anyway, I'll be back!

Always good to have a selection of artillery, you never know what you'll need to blast next!

Good to see you're still powering through this army scythe! I've been slacking last month, but intend to take up the pencil again as I really want to finish offmy O&G before 40K comes out!

Good luck with your O&G! We should plan another battle sometime, are you around during Christmas?

For me, it is not really the 40K release, though I am quite interested in that as well. Fate has it that 4 of my armies now get updated right after each other; Necrons, Vampire Counts, Tau and Empire. All in all great, but bad if I want to keep my armies up-to-date and painted

    Re: Scythe's Empire

You're making fine progress, and those wizards are truly characterful, looking forward to the other college wizards.

    edit:
Don't distract him with battles he has to finish his army first. :P

I've given up on keeping my armies up to date a long time ago. ^^

I'm sure you've heard enough goldsword jokes, so I'll skip on that and just tell you the gold armor on all of your troops looks great. Very original.

I have a huge backlog of unpainted miniatures to catch up with, but slowly but surely, I am making some progress. Drastically limiting my new purchases and a semi-regular paint schedule helped a lot though.

Thanks! I am a big fan and avid follower of your Sylvanian army, some amazing conversions there! Hope to see some updates there soon.

Although I usually don't post work in progress shots, my current batch is taking quite some time, and the horses are practically finished, so:

You might have been wondering where I got all those outrider / pistolier heads of my swordsmen regiment from. Well, I didn't order them separately, they came from here

And to give you an idea of the current state of my hobby corner:

Very impressive. Nothing quite like a fully-painted Empire army! Still, I have to say (and this is no fault of yours!), that all of the "Karl Franz"/"KF" crap on the Empire models just looks stupid. And I'm saying that as an Empire player. Perhaps that's why I'm so adverse to the Steam Tank . . .

That's a lot of Outriders! Nice horses too. Looking at the shot of your desk, my eye is kinda drawn towards your statuettes though!

Thats a very nice army you have there, I like the idea of the bronze armor, never really seen it before on empire and it looks nice, Colorscheme is nice to, was considering something like it.

Keep it up looks great, show your enemies the true manpower of the Empire.

Thanks! I personally don't really mind the KF all over the models... it is kind of cheesy, but then, a lot of things in warhammer are quite cheesy (the skulls not in the least). The most strange place I've seen is on the hammer of the Empire Captain I've painted. Even if he doesn't kill you with it, you'll always be carrying the KF initials

Not all of them will be outriders . Ah, the anime statues are another expensive hobby of mine. Those are a selection of my collection (Holo of Spice and Wolf, and Hallibel of Bleach), but that discussion might be better suited for the warseer anime fan group or through pm:

Thank you! And yeah, this army is planned to become rather big over time, hence my choice for a rather simple, but striking colour scheme.

Good looking stuff here, I especially like the overall effect of the colours on the scenery actually, trees in off-white work brilliantly, I'd never have thought of it!

I think some testors dullcote may work wonders on your troops by the way, it's magic stuff!
