Wow, that's a lot of update to comment on!

The Duellists must be my favorites (though the rest is pretty awesome as well)! Your army is growing at an alarming rate, and all of it is painted, too! Great job!
Check out my Mordheim scenery! NOW! I mean... Please... Only if you want to of course...
Get your ale while it's still hot! And discover why Stirland should rule The Empire...

Indeed they do. Got a couple of new Empire models awaiting assembly currently as well, so I am quite eager to see how they turn out.

Thanks! I vowed to myself to paint up a complete batch of assembled models before assembling any new ones, and it is working so far . I'm still quite a way of my final goal for this army though, which will probably hit 8000-10000 pts when I'm finished. And yes, the duellists are great, characterful models. One of the things I love about the Empire range is its large diversity of models, like indeed the duellists, or the citizens, or many of the captain models. Great stuff.

More updates, more infantry. I've painted up another 20 greatswords. Together with the unit I did before, this gives me enough models to field 2 decent smaller units, or combine the two into a mighty horde of 50.

    MOAR!!!

That banner blew my mind, in an abstract kind of way. Lovely unit.

Heh, I'm not good with freehand painting, so I'm settling for simple patterns on banners at the moment. Maybe one time in the future, I might start decorating them a bit more, hopefully not messing up to badly

Indeed. It is the horde edition, after all! That said, in my experience, greatswords can also function as smaller units holding the flank. Stubborn goes a long way, and those return attacks hurt the enemy a lot.

Try them with a Captain, or better yet, a General... Stubborn and 'Hold the Line' make for almost unbreakable troops. I almost always include my BSB in my Greatswords, too. Stubborn, 'Hold the Line' and the re-roll from the banner is almost unbeatable... These guys aren't going anywhere!

Indeed. Hold the line is a nice upgrade for captains and generals! It depends a bit on how you intend to use the unit though I guess. If you go for the offensive, go horde and add a warrior priest, you shouldn't be losing many combats. On the other hand, a smaller unit of 20 operating on the flanks can benefit greatly, especially when it has a couple of stubborn hold the line speedbumbs (*ahem* I mean detachments, naturally )

It feels good, I admit. After quite a long time in the hobby, I'm finally fielding fully painted armies. Looks amazing! No going back to the grey masses for me.

Anyway, since my empire updates will take a little while longer, something else to keep you entertained in the meantime. I'm working on some other side projects, and one of these is my Wood Elves, for which I recently finished this great treewoman:

She is part of my autumn themed Wood Elf army, which you can see here partially:

Wood Elves were my spare time project the past few months. I won't be playing much with them until they get a new book, but they still have a wonderful model range.

The Wood Elves are gorgeous models and it's a shame they're in dire need of an update. I started a 1000 point army myself way back when they first came out. Not sure how soon it'll be before I dig them back out.
    What's the Treewoman made from?

Yeah, Wood Elves are long overdue for an update, still running with a 6th edition book. However, it is something to get used to with the army, as they have never been a popular army for updates. At this time, I don't mind that much though. With recent updates for Empire, Vampires and Necrons, and a possible Tau update next year, I have enough adjusting army work to do for now.

Ow, and the Treewoman is from Ultraforge miniatures. Leagues above the terrible GW version imho.

If I recall both of their last army books appeared just before Warhammer got a new edition!

I think so... the current book arrived shortly before the 6th to 7th edition switch (though dwarves were released even closer to 7th if I recall correctly), and the one before that was just before the switch to 5th? I didn't play the army back then, so my memory is rather fuzzy there...

Sounds about right, and if push comes to shove I can go diving into my vast collection of WD's if I really feel desperate to verify!

    Re: Scythe's Empire

Something different once more... Vampire Counts were my first warhammer army once, a long time ago, and I'm currently starting to give the army a well deserved update. So today, I bring you something old and something new. First, something old:

I've always loved the classic zombie dragon. Models like this is what drew me to warhammer about 15 years ago, somewhere in 4th/5th edition. I still remember seeing all those cool dragon models (the Wood Elf dragon was also amongst them), and the feeling of awe I got from them. Funny enough, I never got around buying this zombie dragon until a couple of years ago, when I found it for a good price on ebay. So now I finally got around to paint the model, and I think it will fit nicely in my new undead, though probably as something else as a dragon, as those have sized up a bit during the years.

    Then something new:

The new black knight kit really blew me away when it was released a couple of months ago. I never disliked the old black knights (proud owner of a unit of 12), but these models really show how far sculpting has come in those years. Great models, though quite a pain to assemble

Next time I'll return with Empire updates, I promise!

    Re: Scythe's Empire

I loved all the monsters they had back in the day and it's one of my fondest memories. Going into a store and seeing them all lined up, side by side on the top shelf. It's getting to be that way again now there's a few plastic monsters around.
Not getting that Zombie Dragon was one of my regrets, but to be honest back in those days I was a kid with no skill and that was way beyond what I could do!

I also have some of the old Black Knights that I'm rather pleased with. The new ones look good and you've done some nice work on yours.

The zombie dragon looks cool and I like your knights. I like the blighted marsh look you've done on the bases.

Yeah, I think the new focus of GW to release at least one big, impressive monster kit per army is a real good thing overall. It is these kits that draw people to the hobby.
But anyway, it is still not too late to get these nice models, they still wander around on the internet! Now I just need to get me that Wood Dragon as well

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with the marsh effect on the bases as well. That ancient jar filled with green PVA is turning out to be quite useful

    Re: Scythe's Empire

So... Empire updates at last! And some models from the new release to boot .

I really like the new demigryps (love the griffon theme in empire), so it was natural I painted up a unit of them... and they might see further expansion in the future...
