Nice Demi-knights. They complement your other Empire stuff very nicely.

It also seems to me that those undead horsemen really brings out the best in your painting. Good job!

Thanks. And yes, I'm quite pleased how the Black Knights turned out. The paint scheme is very simple and rather fast, yet effective enough for what I wanted to achieve.

Thanks, as always. How are your projects coming along? I haven't seen updates in your Empire army for quite a while.

My Empire hasn't been touched for a small while. I've been preoccupied with other projects, currently GCT Studio's Bushido. You can see what I've been up to in my Other Stuff log.

What a beautiful empire army you have. The bronze armor looks great.

I am currently building an empire army from wissenland and I see some ideas I might need to borrow. I might try the bronze on my great swords, as the boltgun metal doesn't quite fit with the grey and denheb stone color I use. It seems to get lost with the light colors.

And may i ask what color you use for your off white? It looks like khemri brown, but I am not sure.

    Keep up the great work!

Ah, samurai! Such a shame GW has no Asian inspired human race in its ranks...

Thanks for the compliment! I'm very happy how the armour turned out as well, it really sets the army apart imho, and it adds a warm colour for armour instead of a cold one, like metal / silver. I think it could work quite well in combination with grey as well, though you could always look into brass or tin colours if you are searching for something darker. Good luck with your Wissenlanders, and don't forget to post pictures on these boards!

The off white is a base of desert yellow, worked up with bleached bone and gryphone sephia washes. My desert yellow stockpile is shrinking though, I'll have to find a replacement in GWs new paint range soon.

Yeah, I'd be all over a Nippon army. Heck, if one were available it's doubtful I'd have even started my Empire!

I wouldn't go that far, but an eastern army would certainly have my interest. Oh well, not a bad thing for my wallet it doesn't exist I guess

Small update today, first we have Luthor Huss, who got some interesting rules in the new book. He will usually function as a normal mounted priest though:

And a pair of Engineers. Though not as useful as before (that limit to one war machine declared beforehand is a real pain), they are still great together with Hellblasters or with pigeon bombs:

What do they feed you? I fail to drop by for a couple of days and you almost doubled the size of your army

Seriously, nice updates! I don't know what I like most, it all looks good! If I must choose it will be the little scenic bases you did for your Demi Gryphs, cool idea! Also, good job on the Engineers, you never have enough of those...

Thanks. Quite a simple kitbash though, done because I had some spare parts lying around. The extra pair of legs from the huntsmen set and a spare torso are nice for an extra model or two

Heh, I feel like I've been slowing down lately, too much real life stuff to do
That, and painting up a Space Hulk set...

But thanks! Those demigryphs have so much spare room on their bases that you practically have to do something with it. My next 3 demigryphs will probably receive more extensive attention...

    Re: Scythe's Empire

I finished enough additional Empire knights to create both a sizeable unit of Reisguard and regular knights (or Panther knights, what you'd prefer), so today's update features a lot of bronze !

    Reiksguard:

    Panther knights:

    And the two units together:

There's a third unit of knights planned, one with great weapons, but that's something for the future. as I need to buy a couple of bits to get some nice great weapons for them. In the meantime, I'll be back to painting infantry, lots of them.

As awesome as they are, the plumages look a bit unfinished. Like, they're just undercoated while the rest is finished. It might just be the photographs though.

Wow, those guys are inspiring. I agree with Ast about the plumes, though, and think they need some more color in them.

Or at least a bit of shading maybe?

    Re: Scythe's Empire

Partially the photographs, which are a little too bright, but the plumes are indeed quite white. Initially, I wanted to maximize the contrast, so the plumes are only drybrushed and don't have a wash for shading. Might experiment a little with a very thin wash later.

    Re: Scythe's Empire

It feels like ages since I've posted an update. Vacation, other projects and real life suck a lot of time away from my Empire painting. But today, I've got some new stuff. Since the book made spearmen a little better (nah, that is not really accurate... the rest just got worse), this is a fine time for painting up another unit of state troops, giving me units of each type. So far, I only have 20 models painted, the beginnings of a unit which will grow quite a bit in the near future.

The skin is a base coat of scorched brown, drybrushed with graveyard earth, washed with ogryn flesh and slightly highlighted. The bronze comes from dwarf bronze over a base coat of chainmail (though most metals would work), washed with devlan mud. Simple, but effective for the large numbers of models I'm painting. Still searching for some equivalent paints in the new paint range btw, I have some reserves left from the old paints, but some colours will be difficult to replace.

Awesome bit of kit bashing on that unit's sergeant. How big are you aiming to make the spearman unit?
