That metal Griffon? I have that one, bought off eBay ready assembled and undercoated! But it arrived split down the middle!

The steamtank looks good but what completely blew me away is your robo-pegasus, he looks amazing!
My project log: To Infinity and Beyond
Yup, great miniature. Mine is undercoated now as well, will be painted sometime soon.
Thanks. I'm quite pleased with the results, especially how the bronze turned out on some of the models with lots of armour, including the pegasus. All in all, it was a shame not to use the great mechanical horse model, since it is really ace, but a poor choice for an engineer, unfortunately... (which doesn't seem to have changed in the new book).
Anyway, enough talk. Time for a small update. First, an engineer:
And my life mage, deserted straight from the Brettonian range

I think you got a little bit of blue paint on the Engineer's rifle butt. Nice idea for a life mage, I'm half tempted to imitate that!

Seems to have been some dust or grime, it came right off. Thanks anyway ;-)
Time for updates! I haven't nearly painted enough infantry lately, so here's a nice, fat unit of free company, just in time to be hit with a points increase in the new book. There's enough talk about the Empire book elsewhere, so I won't go into much detail about that, but some increases feel really strange. It is not like anyone actually used Crossbowmen, Handgunners and Militia because they were anywhere near pts effective, yet they became even more expensive? (and on a more general level: make command groups free in warhammer! Units look so much better with them, but why would you want to spend the pts in a missile unit?)
Anyway, the unit is 40 models strong now. I might chuck in some unit fillers in the future to take it to a more healthy 50 model horde (as those unarmoured guys drop like flies anyway), but most of the time they will be functioning in multiple detachments I guess.
I've bought myself some demigryps, which have some really nice models imho, but it will take a while before I get to them, as I have some other stuff waiting to be painted first. Damn multiple projects!

That's a great looking unit! I love all the kit bashing that went on in there!

It was a joy to work on indeed. The freedom of just throwing all kind of bits on the models was very nice, and it led to a very diverse unit. Too bad they don't really compare favourably to the other infantry state troops.
So, I painted a Griffon. Not the new one, but the older metal one, a model which I love. Makes a good centrepiece for my army (though I expect some other large models joining it in the future).
Ow yeah, I suppose there's also some guy riding it

Very cool, I like the wings. It's still a nice model but it's a shame it's now overshadowed by the plastic kit. Still, both models are great!

I might use the plastic kit to build Karl Franz somewhere in the future. That way, Deathclaw will actually be a lot bigger than a 'normal' Griffon.
Good idea Scythe, the new Griffon has quite a size to it!

I have a kit to spare, should you be interested... After taking out some bits I decided I'd rather build my own, steampowered version. Hit me with a PM for details on the kit...

I might be interested... expect a pm soon. That said, a steampowered Griffon certainly sounds awesome. I'll be watching your plog!
Well, also a small update. Painted the duellists. They'll fit in with the free company, but I guess I could also double them up as 'counts as' witchhunters, as long as I don't have any other models for those (which are planned somewhere in the future).
And Valten, mark II. He will function as a mounted warrior priest most of the time.
Leading the knights:

Groovy work so far Scythe! That pistol armed duellist should work really well as a Witch Hunter, especially with the sniper rule. Valten mk 2 might be good as a counts-as Karl Franz mounted on a Warhorse.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about using Valten as a mounted Karl Franz. Nice idea, KFs 18" ld10 bubble is quite nice to have (though better served in larger games, obviously). In the meantime, he will be an excellent generic mounted warrior priest for my knights. Huss will be joining him sometime in the future.
And we're back to updates! Painted a cockatrice. Though not technically an Empire model, it will be on my Storm of Magic sideboard for my Empire army. It even got some colors suspiciously tied to my Empire force. All those rumours that the heraldry colors of Ludwig von Schaffhausen might be based on some cockatrices in his personal zoo are all lies of course!
On another note: this was amongst the first finecast models I assembled and painted, and I was quite pleasantly surprised, it went together like clockwork! A lot easier compared to those older metal monsters, especially those with large, heavy metal wings.

Well, that thing is terrifying.
some cool monsters, i like the knights, i always think that griffon looks like it should be sneaking up on somebody.
big fan of the cockatrice, i like the blue you've done
I too have a menagerie of monsters I hope to someday use for Storm of Magic and I really like that Cockatrice. As far as Finecast goes I've heard good things about that kit.

Thanks! It is my favorite release from the Storm of Magic monsters, to be honest. The model just looks disturbing and wrong... in a good way.
The blue turned out pretty nice, though it doesn't show perfectly on the pictures. The great texture on the feathers and the fur made painting it quite straightforward. And the Griffons pose is certainly unique... probably one of the reasons why I like the model a lot (one other mayor reason being the amazing wings on that model).
It is a good kit indeed. Maybe I'm just lucky I didn't get any miscasts in my finecast miniatures, but so far, so good. I've also got some other monsters planned in the future, both old and new, partially because monsters are a joy painting and collecting. I really dig the new found focus of fantasy on large, impressive kits![]()
