Thanks guys your comments are the fuel that keep my hobby tank running!
Trygon is receiving purple highlights as we speak, incoming soon.

Lovely looking army here! The super vivid colours are a throw back to when GW use to paint their nids in bright colours.

The Swirls on the wings look great!

    Love this army. Naturally subscribed.

    Cheers!

Funniest/coolest line I've read on Warseer! And a pretty good description of the plogs above.

Cheers Vipoid and Noobie! This tutorial is for you!

The wings are done in a simple quick way, it's Mordian Blue base coat then chaos black lines freehanded all over in whatever pattern you like (I did circles to represent the circles you get on butterfly wings to show there bigger and more dangerous they are, probably not necessary on a hive tyrant)! ha

Then the hard bit is this: I mix Mordian Blue with Bleached Bone (40/60) and highlight both edges of the black lines, it takes abit of time and patience, especially when your doing 10 gargoyles with two wings each front and back! AIEEE! but yeah, hope this helps!

Sorry for lack of updates guys, Warriors are finished, Mawloc half done and genestealers just been base coated, pics are coming once I get my cam, phone pics just look naff.

Polo, that is awesome, so much patience.
I might trial that out on a space marine later on, it has a cloak, so it will be interesting to see.
That same technique is similar to lightning patterns.

Bases aren't finished yet, any criticism would be great, do you like the scheme? do you think it works? how do you think I can make my bases more interesting? also if anyone has any ideas for tyranid/city fight themed objective markers, I would love to hear them.

alright alright I'll bite, I love the alien look of your tyranids my question is what are you planning on doing for the bases? I think an industrial ground look would be a great complement to the bright purple and blues you have going on. Like they evolved to hide in the recesses of the a hive world or deep in the belly of a space hulk. I can't wait to see what you have done with the mawloc. Once again great work so far keep pushing forward and get those bases done so these models are totally complete.

I just found the thread and find it jaw dropping. I just like that it's different , and for me, the bold colours exemplify that Tyranid look of 'how many are there?, the same way zebra stripes confuse hunters. If you saw this coming at you, your mind would just turn off as you can't comprehend what it is exactly your fighting........exactly as it should be for Tyranids.
Even tactically, on the table, I think your opponent will have a hard time following the battle as you dictate it. I know that not being able to tell one unit from another is usually a bad thing, but in this army, it just works.

Thank you Skidman, yes I am going to go for a industrial ground look, I had in mind a jungle look but I thought this might be too much. I want to some detail to my bases so I'm going to model 'battle trash' onto them. I'm searching for inspiration now. Thank you for confirming it for me, for before I was in two minds whether to go jungle base or not.

Thank you Lantern, I honestly never had thought of this! but the image of crazy camouflage confusing your opponents is great! you have just inspired me to do a crazy lictor idea... hmmmm. Anyway if you see one posted on here, you know it's thanks to you!

    Cheers guys, really appreciate it.

    Mawloc is getting there.

If you need inspiration you could always look at pictures from World War II bombed out cities to see how/where rubble would accumulate, I think some nice touches on the bases of some of the bigger models could be things like propaganda posters crumpled up or trampled on the ground. If you wanted a more industrial base like look you could always look to the Aliens movies for inspiration as far as deep space station groundwork and the way cabling runs through the space stations and what not. I don't know if i helped or hindered but hopefully the suggestions get your mind set on which way you want those bases to look because I can not wait to see more of your tyranids!

Look for premade bases from 3rd party.
You can get industrial, bio, etc.
