    Re: REDEATH's DEATH GUARD log

hehe wow I was amazingly horrible first match was vs Orcs he had his warboss on a bike and Nob bikers and 3 squadrons of 3 killa kans, lootas, and a big 30 boys mob and a big mek. The lootas were extremely lucky and kept getting 30 something shots and his dice rolls were scoring way too many hits with them, the killa kans moved with the big mek who gives them an obscured save and a lot of them had missle launchers that were nailing me. the nob bikers plowed into my plague marines that got poped out of their rhinos from killla kan missles eventually I was able to force the bikers to route off the board when he made the mistake of separating his warboss from the nobs and I got lucky and killed the banner pole nob they failed their leadership and Terminator squad Typhus went after the warboss but of course typhus rolled a 1 and hit himself but then my terminator champ finished off the nob with hit twin lightning claws but in the end they did their damage and I was with out my melta plague marines and the lootas and kans were grinding me down.

Second match could have and should have gone my way vs necrons but again bad rolls vs a necro overlord in the middle of the board tied up squad typhus (but Typhus already died to a Death Ray hit GW should FAQ in Eternal warror on him) and my double Melta squad of Plague Marines. The damn overlord would not die kept making is invulnerable saves against the power fists and he had some damn jedi mind trick that would take over one of my guys of course it kept being the terminator with the chainfist that was also killing my own guys....eventually I kill him off but then he makes his we'll be back roll and has a phylatceral crap and gets back up with all 3 wounds back! I was able to kill all 3 death ray vehicles but then he had 4 of those barges loaded up with necron warriors and they had shields and the amount of fire was chewing me up as I was only able to take one down.

The third match was against Necrons again At first this guy was playing horribly and would advance his guys up then I would chew a few guys up with my auto cannons and he then actually retreated out of line of sight of my autocannon havocs that were holded up in a building. everything was going good until he finally got the balls enough to use his Monolith and got lucky and toasted a full squad of my plague marines (the good wone with power fist and 2 meltas with one damn blast then he ports in a large squad of warriors and I stupidly let a large squad of warriors take one of my objectives on the far side .....I killed way more of his guys than he did mine but he was able to steal my far side objective and I lost my troops on the middle objective and he got it with the warriors he ported in and I only held one more objective on my side and contested another on his side and then I was able to contest the middle one at the very end but he beat me 2 objective to one it was a stupid loss really kicking my self in the ass over it....I shold have had the havocs on both sides of the board instead of one corner.

It sounds to me like you had a fair bit of bad luck, but also learnt alot of valuable lessons. In my experience, i think ill take valuable lessons to take forward in life as far more valuable than any trophies or victories.

They say, if history teaches us anything... it is to learn from our mistakes so they don't happen again in the future!

Lightbulb Re: REDEATH's DEATH GUARD log

Ok I got very disenheartened by my army's poor performance this past weekend BUT I did learn some valuable lessons #1 being know your codex...I jyped myself out of a lot of hits....I forgot that Wind of Chaos that I like to use with Typhus is no Armor Save CRAP I was giving guys saves DOH!., I also forgot that Nurgles Rot can be used in the shooting phase even if Typhus is in Combat and more importantly it can basically hit every enemy within the radius even guys that are just near him and in a different close combat. I also got jyped out of so many defiler Battecannon Ordinance Blasts....because even if the damn hole is not on the vehicle and the blast is 1/2 Str going from 8 to 4 it still gets 2 d6 to see if it penetrates armor b/c it is ORDINANCE and it is a BIG explosion using the LARGE blast template. So even if the temp hole is not on the damn Land Raider you still have a chance of getting over 14 Armor Pen. I think that whould have made a huge difference in my match against the damn Orks and even those damn Necrons. I have also made the decision to stop using Nurgle Sacred damn number no More 7 man squads its all gonna be 5 mans and here is my newly revised 1850pt list

1850 Pts - Chaos Marines Roster - Death Guard 1850

    HQ: Typhus
    1 Typhus

    Elite: Chaos Terminators
    1 Terminator
    1 Terminator
    1 Terminator
    1 Terminator
    1 Land Raider

    Troops: Plague Marines
    5 Plague Marines, + Meltagun x2
    1 Rhino

    Troops: Plague Marines
    5 Plague Marines, + Meltagun x2
    1 Rhino

    Troops: Plague Marines
    5 Plague Marines, + Flamer x1 + Meltagun x1
    1 Rhino

    Troops: Plague Marines
    5 Plague Marines, + Plasma gun x2

    Heavy Support: Havocs
    5 Havocs, + Autocannon x4

    Heavy Support: Obliterators
    3 Obliterators

    Elite: Dreadnought
1 Dreadnought, w/ Missle Launcher + Plasma Cannon

    Heavy Support: Defiler
1 Defiler, w/ Reaper Autocannon + Close Combat Arm

    Total Roster Cost: 1850

    Composition Report:
    HQ: 1 (1 - 2)
    Elite: 2 (0 - 3)
    Troops: 4 (2 - 6)
    Fast: 0 (0 - 3)
    Heavy: 3 (0 - 3)

The plan is keep Typhus safe and sound from damn death rays and insta killing junk and run him in the Land Raider right into the enemy along with the other Rhinos...move 12" pop smoke then on turn two 2 rhinos Shoot 2 Meltas from top hatch firepoint at vehicles if close enough the third will support Typhu's charge. the Defiler will use Battlecannon effectively and and properly deadly now that I know better, Obliterators will obliterate infantry with 3 Plasma Cannon blasts or vehicles with 3 Lascannons on vehicles, Dreadnaught is more versitile Plasma Cannon + Missle Launcher vs light vehicles and infantry and Missle Launcher for heavier vehicles and I will still keep 1 squad of Autocannon havocs for 48" - 8 shots since they have never really failed me. What do you think. I have another 1850pt Tourney next month to try this all out.

I guess this all means MORE PAINTING to do...gonna need to do them 3 oblits now, finsih off my Landraider, 1 plasma cannon arm for Dread, and some power weapon arms and twin linked bolters for vanilla terminators

    Re: REDEATH's DEATH GUARD log

Interesting breakdown of armies present at the Tourney... 5 Necron players, 11 Spacemarine but 4 of them were Space Wolves, and 3 Blood Angels...of the other four I can confirm that 1 was Imperial Fists, 1 Crimson Fists, and one Salamanders I dont recall what the 4th one was. Space Marines are definately the bread and butter of GW suprisingly there were no Eldar or Dark Eldar present.

The top 5 in the tourney were: 1st Blood Angels, 2nd Tyranids, 3rd Blood Angels, and 4th&5th went to Necrons.

Total break down of armies out of 24:
    (Necrons) 5
    (Space Marines) 4
    (Space Wolves) 4
    (Blood Angels) 3
    (Chaos Space Marines) 2
    (Imperial Guard) 2
    (Orks) 1
    (Grey Knights) 1
    (Daemons) 1
    (Tyranids) 1

Unusual breakdown. Odd to not see any space pixies. Necrons still prooving popular. Death rays for the win I guess.

OK been a little busy at work and had to help my brother in law set up a home security system with DVR and 8 night vision cameras over the weekendand now a friend of mine just blew $430 (after 20% discount)on Space Wolves so I am helping him assemble some of them like the thunderwolf calvary and his wolf guard....I am Magnetising for him. But here are the last pictures I took before the tournament of my Death Guard...

    Re: REDEATH's DEATH GUARD log

Oh well fell off the wagon again with Mother's day planning and tons of work at work...then it got way too hot in my workspace with the hot weather....but this week is nice and cool in the low 70's so I will get back down there and get some stuff done. There is a team 1000 pts each tourney coming up on the 25th and I have a new 1850 pt list in the works since I recently acquired some Vindicator parts and someone elses nurgly stuff (4) Rhinos, (1) Classic Vindicator, (1) Classic Predator, and (2) Land Raiders! Plus I think like something like 50 plastic Chaos Space Marines green stuffed and some 9 or so metal Chaos Terminators green stuffed up to make them into Obliterators from a guy that quit the game due to the GW price hike. It was a great deal for me saving tons just on the vehicle value.

Right now I am taking apart the Oblit Terminators except for the 3 best looking ones which I will keep just in case I run a list with more than 3 obliterators.

I will sell off the plastic converted Plague marines since I have more than enough Plague marines of my own

I am stripping the paintjobs and green stuff blobs off of the vehicles to redo them the way I want to.

I have already stripped down the classic vindicator and have actually disassembled it and I am in the process of transferring the metal parts onto a current rhino chassis (will do the same with the classic Predator parts). The classic Rhino chassis is actually intact and I will probably eBay that off too.

I will be trying to finish off my Death Guard Land Raider as I included it in 2 of my 1000 point lists and in my new 1850 lists by June 25th I only say trying because I get side tracked ALOT like do I really need to retrofit these classic Vindicator and Predator parts.....no but I think I can make it look cool :P I will post pics later this week of that effort and of the stuff I aquired.

Also I will be going to POLAND and GERMANY in October and Warsaw is definitely on my list of places to go since there are many independent resin modelers that are located in Poland like http://puppetswar.com, http://www.maxmini.eu, and http://sciborminiatures.com so I will be picking up some good stuff over there.

    Re: REDEATH's DEATH GUARD log

I blew too much time on trying to do a Clasic Vindicator Metal parts transplant on to a current Rhino hull....did it successfully BUT did not realise the current Vindicator Cannon is off center to one side and the classic was dead center so of course the damn dozer blade don't match up and now I am going to have to do some plasticard work to make that hole centered on the dozer blade. So that one is getting shelved for now so I can get back to work on the Land Raider and the rest of the Rhinos.

I hate Resin we had a couple of cool nights the other week so I figured I would get some stuff done...namely my Death Guard Land Raider. Well Land Raiders are a real pain to put together properly (Moving doors and removable sponsoons) and its even worse when damn Forge World cant even make the front door the right size for it....the stems were a little too short and the hinges were too close to each other. I ended up snaping one of the stems by accident and the other side was too short anyway SO I cut that off and then pinned the stems from the original plastic door to the FW one which was a project. I bounced back and forth from a really cool Death Guard Rhino conversion I am doing (not just my usual Green Stuf stuff) and I promise it will be cool.

Still trying to wrap my head around 6th Edition and b/c of it I am thinking 4 Heavy bolter Havoc squad since now they can shoot on the move at BS1.

I am looking into Daemonic Allies I would like to squeeze in that 300 pt Ku'Gath the Plague Father....6 wounds...chance to spawn more nurglings (troops) each turn! and AP2 Necrotic missles large Blast Template that wounds on 4+! then add like 2 troop choices of 9 Nurgling bases w/ 3 wounds each base can you imagine what a pain in the butt that would be for players to get line of sight on them little buggers plus they are troops and can take / hold objectives all for 534 points!

It is hot and Summer I usually don't get much of anything done but I will try on those nights that its cool out and the temp is tolerable in my basement. (Provided the wife don't screw me over and do laundry...the damn dryer ends up heating up the basement)

Here are some pics of what I have been working on lately....I work extremely slow in the summer time actualy only painting for a handful of days when it is cool enough in my basement to do so.
first up is the Clasic Vindicator transplant onto a current Rhino chassis. (oppps the top part of the Vindicator slid back b/c I have not glued the parts yet but you can now see where I ground down the roof to make it fit.)

and here are the two Land Raiders I got off of that DG Army purchase from a player quiting the game. I plan on eventually striping them down and redoing them my way but for now that can stay and one can be a stand in untill I finish my own LR in progress shown here.
