White Dwarf delayed shipment for subscribers from now on

In order to align product releases globally, White Dwarf will be on sale on the last Saturday of each month (ie White Dwarf August will be for sale on July 30th). In-store subscribers will also be able to pick up their magazine at the store on that Saturday.

In-home subscriptions will be shipped on the last Saturday of each month (ie White Dwarf August will ship on July 30th). You can expect to see your copy of White Dwarf within ten days from shipment.

If you have any questions or don't receive your White Dwarf within ten days from the last Saturday of the month, please call Customer Service at 1-800-394-4263 or email custserv@games-workshop.com.

This will go into effect for August's White Dwarf #379.

This will not only happen for the UK, but also other countries - I also got a newsletter in German for the german issue of WD.

Usually your issue arrived on Wednesday or Thursday, then the issue went on sale on Saturday at GW hobby centres and independant retailers and then next week at newsagents. Now you commit yourself to a suscription and get you issue later than everybody else - really, what are they smoking? I will cancel my suscription now - the only thing I liked about it was to get my issues a little bit earlier.

The only thing I liked about White Dwarf were the great articles on painting, the alternative army lists like Gnoblar Hordes and the 'Eavy Metal section.

I haven't bought more than 1 or 2 White Dwarfs for many years, now. In the past 6 years, I've purchased maybe... 4?

this does seem crazy, possibly getting the mag 10 days after it's available in the store. perhaps they hope people will switch to collect from store.

I'd like to think they have a clever plan to capitalise on this, but I expect it's just their "no spoilers = more profit" thinking...

I really can't see any advantage in this, except pissing off their customers even more, if humanly possible.

It's like they have a weekly quota of kicks that they must give us in the teeth, and they are finding more and more creative ways to fill that quota.

The ill logic behind this - they want to make WD more attractive by making it the first resource for new releases. Thus you would want to get your issues a little bit earlier as a kind of "reward" for having a suscription. But now you get your issue sent really late and your first resource will be the preorders from the website, making your copy of WD even more worthless as all the news is already spilt when you get your issue. And if you don't have a GW or indie store nearby (wouldn't be surprised if indies get their copies later as well TBH) there is no chance to get your magazine on time. Really, what's the strategy behind this?

You know, this is exactly how I feel, and it makes me extremely sad.

I mean, I've loved warhammer and 40k since I was a child, loved all the specialist games growing up (and I still do!) and I'm trying very hard not to hate those guys now, trying to see what they do in a positive light...
But the longer I go, the longer it seems to me that GW is acting like a girlfriend that wants to be dumped...

It's not all that new, is it?
The whole of last year I regularly saw White Dwarf on sale in stores before I got my copy in the mail.
One of the reasons I did not renew my subscription.

And my WD sub is now cancelled, call 01778 392083 (in uk) to cancel but be sure to call Mail Order and tell them too.

Basically having spoken to a few GW folks this is part of trying to get people into GW to see about the new releases etc. first right there in store, and pre-order them right there in store whilst you are still excited enough to ignore and discount you may get elsewhere by ordering. Seems to me GW want to do away with everything that they do not directly control.... and as such I am doing away with them.... up yours GW!

Oy. This is just getting childish. GW must have it all their way. Screw pleasing the customer, screw operating in the 21st century, screw taking pride in your work.

I mean, this isn't the worst thing they've done recently... and I guess at this point it doesn't surprise me much. But it's such a dick move. Loyal customers, move to the back of the line and wait your turn.

I was toying with the idea of subcscribing to White Dwarf for the hassle free arrival and early delivery.

This policy has helped tip the scale to me not doing so.
