"Sod off Bryan Ansell"? Sadly, I doubt there's a single person to blame this time.

I never had a subscription and stopped buying WD some years ago (okay, two or three issues, but I ALWAYS regretted it...).

I think this latest **** you to the loyal customers is the last straw I needed to finally finish with not just what has been a sub standard "magazine" (in reality just a monthly catalogue) for a few years, but also the GW hobby in general as GW seem to feel that supplying an exceptionally poor quality item for a ridiculous price is their god given right, I can finally say after threatening before that enough is enough, I quit.

Mmh, the local GW is basically on the way of my daily commute, so it hasn't been much of a hassle to pick it up when I've wanted it. I'm looking at switching jobs soon, and was considering getting a subscription instead, but... Yeah, I'll just hear the relevant stuff online, now.

    Nevermind, eh?

Goodbye to all those leaving a hobby over this!

Plastic is great. Light, easy to convert, doesn't chip the paint off when you bump the model...

That's why when they makes a unit plastic and charge the same as when it was metal I don't care. To me the model just got better for the same cost, who cares about anything else. ~ Malorian

Anyone else think this may have something to do with the SoM release being massively preempted by someone getting their WD really early and posting the pics?

And just when I was starting to get interested in WD again. There's no price reduction for subscription? Just the lame dwarf mini?

Remember Index Astartes? Those were the days... I used to eagerly await my WD in the mail each month. Canceled my subscription years ago. Plenty of battle reports and painting tips on the internet.

Not leaving "over this" this is simply one more in a line of decisions and policies that have turned me off the hobby completely.

No, thats where you are completly wrong. People are no leaving "A" Hobby, people are leaving "The Hobby,©tm GWplc©,tm". Big difference there. There is plenty of other table top wargamming out there.

Good riddence to 'The Hobby,©,tm' there are better and cheeper out there.

You're not far off. If the photos from Wayland are anything to go by it would appear that you get free hairs of some description with some of the failcast packs.

The thing is that by digging through the website you can totally get the pictures in digital form and no need to scan a picture in.

WD is annoying now more than an enjoyment and that I won't be buying it any further.

Better is subjective. And as a hobby is a luxury that we spend our spare cash (and therefore not a requirement to living) 'cheaper' only applies to those within certain spending brackets (because cheaper to one person is not going to be 'cheap' to another).

Table Top wargaming, playing/painting toy soldiers, whatever your hobby is classified as, should focus around the models and not the decisions of a companys magazine (and let's be fair, it's a magazine, not a catalogue) arriving a week later than usual.

If it was random policies and the adjustment of a magazine arriving to you beyond a certain date then you've already made that decision to move on from one hobby to another, be it subliminally or not then maybe your hobby isn't what you though (in fact it's more about talking about the hobby rather than engaging with it). Voicing it now might be empowering to your decision but I've never seen the vocal need for the minority to exclaim they're leaving forever.

On topic: I'm pretty chuffed WDs are being focused into local GWs once more. Same as other product getting first treatment in the main stores.

Re: White Dwarf delayed shipment for subscribers from now on

Here's a copy of the response I sent to GW Customer Services today after getting their email:

I’ve just received notification of your policy to ship White Dwarf to subscribers on the day it appears in-store and wanted to register my disappointment in this decision.
I subscribe to a number of magazines all of which offer incentives to subscribers in addition to a discounted price. One sends me a free t-shirt, one an annual binder, one even removes a few pages of advertisements from every issue and replaces them with expanded articles.
And all of them ensure that my magazine arrives in my mail box by the time or (more often) before it goes on sale to the general public.
This approach seems to be the norm for subscribers – in recognition of our customer’s ongoing support, we the publisher, will reward their continued patronage.

I fail to understand why Games Workshop feel above all this.
Already I’ve had the irritating experience of walking into my nearest independent GW retailer and finding the new issue of White Dwarf on the shelves almost a week before I’ve received mine.
This is a contemptuous policy and demonstrates a woeful lack of interest in recognising long-term customer loyalty.
As a result I suspect I will choose not to renew my subscription when it next expires and will instead simply thumb through each issue in-store.

Re: White Dwarf delayed shipment for subscribers from now on

Well at least you got an email, I have yet to receive my new White Dwarf or an email telling me of the delay to the next one.

If this does come into effect I will be cancelling my subscription and most likely forgetting about the magazine. I do get it for the news and to see the nice new models that little bit earlier than when they hit the shops, so whats the point in paying a subscription when I get to see the things on the shelves before the mag. It's just plain stupid.

I'm beginning to think that those in charge of GW have just plain lost the plot. I mean first the embargo to the southern hemisphere, then all the problems with the finecast and now pulling things back from people that they know are willing to spend money with them. They really need a kick up the **** and to get back into what customer relations should be.

Are 8 year olds likely to have white dwarf subscriptions? No.

So are white dwarf subscribers a priority to GW? No.

    Sad, but true.

I think it's what they deserve if revealing new stuff so ridiculously late. When does storm of magic go on sale.. tomorrow? Next week? I dunno, as GW has barely said anything apart from those 2 pictures a couple months back. What happened to 'hyping' everything? Revealing (a couple) new releases a month in advance sounds about right. a week, or couple days before release? That's controlfreaky and a bit silly.

My guess is the resin fumes up at Lenton are leaking into the boardroom. I can't see any other explanation for the level of wilful stupidity they're displaying at the moment.

After 20+ years, I'm canceling my sub. Anybody want a Gamesday WD Seminar ticket? you can go and shout at them for me, cause I can't be arsed.

Re: White Dwarf delayed shipment for subscribers from now on

At this point, it is getting to the stage where stopping playing GW games isn't my choice anymore, it boils down to the fact that in my local area we are bleeding support, and the player base is falling rapidly. If you can't get a game, the prices are too high to justify buying the models just to paint. I can paint reasonably well but for me the best bit of the hobby is deploying 2 armies painted to good standards and having a scrap. I realise this isn't the case for everyone, but I'm one of the better painters amongst the people I play against, so the rest are in the same "paint to play" camp as me.

Whether the downturn is down to disgruntlement at GW policies, or pure economic factors, it becomes increasingly less enticing as something to spend my free time doing. I'll play as long as I can get games, and I'll paint what I still have, but I'm actively looking at the point where everyone will have jumped ship.
