This lateness is pretty common in partwork publications where you deal direct with the company.

I began collecting the Combat Tank Collection a few years ago and subscribed to company. I got sent my two magazines a month. Now the magazines actuallycame out every two weeks, and, since most months are longer than exactly 4 weeks, after a few months I was 5 or 6 issues behind the guys who were buying it from WHSmiths.

It's a poor poor show from GW but I gave up my WD subscription after 150 odd issues a good few years ago when WD became less of an "enjoyable read" and more of a "File next to the toilet in case of paper shortage" publication.

Well it's saturday 25th when White Dwarf goes on sale in stores. I just spoke to the Trolls at Mail Order (very much doubt they're internally referred to as that anymore) and they said that it is now being sent so as to arrive on release day each month. They blamed the postal service for it not arriving ON the day of release. It seems that the quickest way now to get WD is to buy it in store.

Yeah, which is not what GW management have told to stores.. it isnt posted to get there on release day at all, it isnt posted until release day to mae sure you wont get it on release day, nor do independant stores get it for the day of release now.

If they want to violate the first amendment of the US constitution, then they would first need to buy out the US Congress, or at least a majority of it.

I am not sure what is the current market rate for individual congressmen, but I would presume that buying out a majority of them would put a serious drain on the GW cash assets.

As for buying out Warseer, that would require that GW management admits that Warseer actually exists.

As for WD, perhaps in a few years time they will try again up the amount of subscriptions by trying to arrange it so that lucky subscribers might have a chance of catching it a day before it hits the stores.

The change to delivery times is making me think about cancelling my sub. I wouldn't surprise me if I've got 10 years of them sat under my bed. Regarding the WD seminars at gamesday do they do Q+A sessions still? I wonder what would happen if every question was "why do subscribers get their copy after release day?" with the room being full of just subscribers.

I think the developer-types would be feeling guilty over the suits' decisions.

    Meh.

Only reason I got a subscription was to get the White Dwarf in space suit model. The magazine is bathroom reading at best.

Since I don't care for the latest model, I shan't be reupping this year.

    Well done GW, well done...

Every time you firmly believe GW can't really come up with anything to beat their lastest stunt, they successfully manage to come up with another stupid idea. Yep, taking away one of the very few advantages of a WD subscription sounds like a smart move. Next step would be to drop the special WD subscription gift/miniature and/or maybe get rid of the discount?

Luckily this one does not affect me anymore, I gave up on buying WD a few years ago already. I started playing WFH back in the days when there wasn't a single GW in Germany (you only got to buy the odd box/blister at indy stores every now and then) and was a WD customer from the day they started releasing the WD here in Germany. I stopped because I couldn't really justify to buy the magazine any longer due to a serious lack of quality/content. Well, if I still had a sub, I'd definitely cancel it now.

I've been playing their games for a pretty long time now, tried to defend most of their actions and kept playing/buying. I feel they crossed a line lately. I was around when GW started doing business here in Germany and watched them rise, I hope I'm not watching them fall now...

Well, I would imagine that this will be accompied by added pressure on the store staff to get more subscriptions. I know that subs are one of the metrics the store's performance is based upon. Since, according to GW uppper management, GW does everything to make the jobs in the store easier, this will be talked up as making it easier to sell subs.

Thats ultimately the problem, the 'bad guys' in all this never, ever put themselves in a customer facing situation, its the people who actually create the things we like that do that, and whilst its easy to lump gw into one 'evil' pot, they probably dont deserve the flak they get.

For what its worth, here in the midlands at least the whole thing is pointless. I don't subscribe, but I do buy the odd issue that has soemthing that interests me, I bought the new one from Asda on wednesday this week, 3 days before its in gw shops, probably a week before subscribers get it.

GW can control many things, but in places like asda and tesco, new box of mags arrive, they go on the shelves, they neither look for or care about 'release dates' , and the nature of those supermarkets means they never will.

Agreed, poor guys. and lol at that, GW tries to force us into GW stores, when we can potentially get it half a week early from some bookstore anyway xD

Welcome to warseer by the way, may your ears ring with the sound of complaints and whines for many days to come.

I will probably not renew, and will pick up copies at my local hobby store... and deal with the extra cost per issue by not buying the issues that are tilted toward 40K, which I don't play.

Thanks for the welcome, I've lurked for ages .

Asda in the UK is a large supermarket type place, actually owned by Walmart, because things like magazines are at best a secondary product, it will never controlled as GW would want, shelf fillers will fill shelves when the product arrives, the only way to stop it would be to stop those places stocking it, which could be a next , even sillier, step.

So WD is out in stores today and my sub hasn't been delivered yet. Still never mind it will be the last one when it does arrive.

Re: White Dwarf delayed shipment for subscribers from now on

I'll cancel my subscription on Monday. Mail Order was virtually unavailable today...

I'm pretty [swearfilter] unhappy [/swearfilter] with this delay of WD. Originally I got my sub for getting WD a week early (you know, when it was released on Wednesday, and I got mine seven or eight days in advance...). I could live with the change to "release on Satruday, WD sub the Wednesday before", even though I was'n happy then. But getting the mag after everybody else can buy it? What the heck did they smoke? Is this really the way they want to treat their long-term customer? And you have to be one to have the sub in the first place...

That's it for me. Hopefully someone will notice how dumb a move they made...

Haven't you heard? To a good number of Warseer posters, WE are the problem and Games Workshop is simply doing what any good business would. I swear, it's getting all Stockholm around this place...

Well after this one even Asda wont be able to put it up before GW, as shipping to anywhere bar the GW stores themselves isnt happening until the actual release date.

I thought Tom Kirby was in charge of GW, not Reggie Perrin.....

What the hell are they thinking?
