From what i have seen of it i would not use this model if GW gave me a free one. Id rather use the old DE one if anything.

2013 OK lost count
Dude... Its a manticore, ITS MEANT TO BE UGLY.
You people want pretty MAGIC PONY HEADS on everything.
This manticore is awesome, the paint job is the only thing I hate about the head part.
I wish Beastmasters could still be used with a Manticore, that thing was awesome especially when an arch lector would swap stats with the beastmaster. Good times.
It's not perfect or wow, but I do like it. but the pose does resemble a jumping frog;-)
Am I the only one who still Dieter Helsnicht's mount? Both the DE one and this latest creation look wrong- I'm sick of the 'rearing up on back legs' pose, it's almost as if they are trying to make all monsters look like the snake dragons.

Looking for folks who fancy playing necromunda in Walsall area. Drop me a PM if interested
Personally I think the manticore looks odd...it's hair just flows "oddly" (only word to describe it), it has hair growing between it's legs - which my gf mistook for something rude, and it's got a beer belly!!
I have always liked the idea of a chaos guy on manticore, and I like both rider options in this kit. But personally I'd rather put them on top of the new chimera (with the 3rd/top head removed).

If i got it (and there's really no reason to as i don't play WoC or DE) i'd re-pose it so that its coming down from flight to attack something. Sweep the wings back re-pose the front legs, maybe make the claws grabbing something.
i like the model overall, but then i was never looking for 'realism' in my fantasy monsters unlike others (wing size complaints, 'fat' body, hair in 'odd' places etc)!!
black dragon (better than the old, but the head is to much like the hydras and it should be larger imo)
chimera(Really like this one)
cockatrice(pretty cool)
Not interested at all in the Manticore
I like it. Rider is better though, those chains look awesome, although I don't like the unhelmeted face, Chaos Lords should always have helmets.
Definitely not one of the worst models ever, as people have been complaining about. Not the best either, but overall I'd say 7/10.

I agree the Chaos Lord is a bit boring. This is what I like:
I like the Sorc Lord a lot.
It's cool GW painted it up twice.
The plastic model already with Chaos riders is a much easier starting point for conversions than the metal DE manticore.
I got no problems with the head of the beast.
I'm spotting a lot of sexy extra parts on that sprue... nice!
Price point is nice and it's not failcast.
I really don't like this Manticore. Really not a fan of the beer-belly, so far the only monster where a beer-belly worked is for the Orcs Wyvern. The head is the biggest turn-off though, the hair is all wrong, too spiky and not enough fur-like or mane-like, it looks like he's too close from those static ball!
The forearms and hands looks quite odd, like they are too short or too humanoid, something doesn't fit with them. Plus there's all kind of weird wrinkles and veins everywhere (inside the knees/elbows, on the knees, on the belly, etc.).
I find the current DE one (still metal) to be much, much better, always liked that one, I prefer a more lion-y looking head. If I wanted a Manticore I would go for that one for sure.
Vampire Counts Army : At least 4000pts built, much more waiting for some love!
Tomb King Army : About 6000 pts of troops, all that is left is painting!
My Sales thread!
at first i really disliked this model.
but then after i saw it with different paint jobs AND more importantly from different angles, its started to grow on me. same with the chimera.
Nah.. Raging Heroes did one much better - I could consider it for a second Manticore, but then again there are lots of other things I want to spend my cash on![]()
But those aren't new, if you speak of new models speak about the new chaos models, with the latest WoC book they started returning there, most new character models have mutations and there where a re-release of old ones, the chosen show more gifts than the current chaos warriors (who where released long before this book), the knights have more chaosy options and bits than the chaos warriors, the warhounds are pretty much the same but in plastic IMO but then again those where chaosy enough in the first place. Sure the marauder horsemen doesn't carry mutations but I like that, I'm of the last ed belief that marauders are unworthy of marks and only a few individuals are gifted.
As for the manticore it does have a chaosy feel but not a rampant mutation feel, it is a stable mutation but still a creature of chaos, and I can see that in it, besides making it more chaosy would make it useless for Darkelfs.
I like it but I want a chaos dragon for my lord so this will have to wait for a later time.
I like the new models but have no use for them currently, I'll just leave the door open for later buys.

I think that if nothing else, it marks good progress in the plastic kits we're seeing.
I suspect the majority of people would find this kit far more aesthetically pleasing than the previous DE incarnation, and this on is in plastic.

I've just pre-ordered my manticore. Think it looks great and from the photos i can see at least 3 different set-ups for both the sorceror lord and chaos lord. Will put the lord on the manticore and kit bash the sorceror lord with a chaos knight. Loving the tzeentch sorceror on foot as well!
This Manticore is an awful sculpt. Terrible posing, flat nosed and comical face, pot-belly, knees that break basic anatomical laws...
The wings are the only good part.
Raging Heroes have got you covered when it comes to a Manticore.
Funny I think the wings are too small if I buy one I'll probably pick up some Balrog wings and graft them on instead and the arms will have to be positioned I reckon the left arm could be put on in a raised above head about to strike pose without to much resculpting. The head looks better without the extra horns.
I don't get all the pot belly comments; have you people seen what a male lion looks like?
