Very neat. AoW dwarf axes are very thick, but somehow it still looks alright to me. An AoW plastic kit for a decent price... it's almost too good to be true.

Got all mine built, based (had to fill in the slottas :|), undercoated and about 50% painted and dipped. Still very happy with them. They look great as a block, although I chose to make some group bases to give them some space.

I doubt Games Workshop will try and compete on price. They'd need to release them at 10 for £12 which would make everything else they do seem stupidly expensive. They've also got the expenses involved in running hundreds of stores to cover, so if they do release any they'll do it at a standard price point.

This was the price GW models were only 4 years ago...
If you play any of Mantic's games, check out my Battlescribe project for KoW and Warpath.

You're right, though I admit it surprises me to realise it was only 4-5 years ago. Unfortunately it doesn't matter how cheap models were last month ago, a typical 10 model core box is around £15-18 these days, Specials and Rares are in the £20-£26 range. If GW releases slayers at a price point well below this, they will get near infinite problems because they make the price of Greatswords/Stormvermin/Bestigor etc look even worse.

Have been mulling over it for a while and these models single handedly make me want to do a dwarf army. Anyone have any side by side pics of these and mantic's dwarves?
    Browncoat. And will be forever.

Not being funny, I bloody love Mantic Games

Basically, you may wish to re-base on Warhammer bases.

I'm curently assembling 2 boxes worth of Dwarf Berserkers and I can only recommend following the advice posted above. I was a bit surprised to find out that the freshly assembled miniatures wouldn't fit on the included unit/regiment base. Ripped them from their bases again only minutes ago and I'll put them on spare 20mm GW bases instead tomorrow.

Ignoring this little annoyance I can wholeheartly recommend the AoW Dwarf Berserkers. The box is great and it's a lot of fun assembling these guys.

Now I only need to decide if I want them to mohawk or not to mohawk...

Definitely mohawk. I also recommend the topknot + dragon skull look.

Having had a look at the earlier pics, I think I actually prefer them to be bald.

I couldn't decide for one or the other and simply I went for a healthy mix of mohawk sporting Berserkers and bald ones.

Now having seen the two together do you have a preference?

    Re: Review of Plastic Berserkers

No, judging by the look only, I don't have a preference. They both look great.

Looking at the other units I already have and comparing them to the Slay...Berserers I fear the bald ones could maybe turn out to look too similar to the Longbeards/Hammerers I'll probably be using: As a test I built 4 Longbeards/Hammerers (?) using Mantic Shieldbreakers and Berserker heads (link to hobby log). As a result of the parts used to build the miniatures the units look similar.

Of course this could be prevented by a typical Slayer-style paint job (orange beards etc). However, if you plan to use a more natural choice of hair colours (like sigur did with his Berserkers) this could be a bit more problematic.

    Agreed.

I know that people associate the hairpiece with Slayers, but I've always felt that it makes them look cartoonish. Bald, on the other hand, really makes them look intimidating.

Is anyone else having an issue that the movement tray included is to small for the bases?

I think I read somewhere that the movement tray was an issue....

    Re: Review of Plastic Berserkers

Yep, the included bases and the movement tray do not fit. The AoW bases seem to be too wide for the tray. I used spare GW bases and the tray worked well again...

    Re: Review of Plastic Berserkers

I am using GW bases as I have no interest in filling slotted bases. I made sure all my bases were cleaned to now have any flash left over and yet still cant fit it. I am about 1mm to big for the base. I should of made it clear I was using GW bases in my original post as I had read the issue with the non gw bases being to big.

    Re: Review of Plastic Berserkers

Maybe try turning some of the Slayers to the side and see if they fit then? If it works you could simply cut some of them off their bases and re-glue them in a more fitting way.

I just had a look at some of the plain, non-slotted GW bases and it seems they aren't exactly 100% quadratic/square. There's a small difference when it comes to the length of the sides.

    Re: Review of Plastic Berserkers

My models are on the GW Regiment Bases, and are numbered. 11,12,13,14,15,21,22,31,32,41,42,51,52,53,54,54 With the first number being rank, and the second being file. It really helps with bulky models like the slayers, where their axes get in the way. I think I had to cut a couple of arms off and reattach them too, to make it all work.

Still, a little work up front saves hours in games.
