    Precinct Omega paints... Tyranids

Well, as one commission recedes into the background, a fresh one is all ready to pick up!

This is a substantial Tyranids army that I'm splitting between myself and a couple of Freelancers, which the client has asked to be painted in a colour scheme like that of Privateer Press's studio colour scheme for the Legion of Everblight.

Anyway, here're some of the models we'll see painted over the next 4-6 weeks:

    Deathleaper

    Trygon Prime

    Mawloc

    Stealers

    Zoanthropes

    Hormagaunts with Feshborers

The Gaunts are out with Freelancer Gareth, who's the only other member of my team with his own airbrush, as far as I know...

...but here's the first half of the stealer brood:

These aren't quite finished, as I still have to add some grass tufts and snow effect. I'm going to be using a recipe for the snow that I got here, so I'll be ordering some Woodland Scenics water effects from Maelstrom in the next day or so, but I'll do all of that at the end.

    Stealer squad finished:

Tomorrow, I aim to get started on the Zoanthropes and to start and finish the Broodlord.

Is there going to be pink and lighter brown color added to them like the Everblight picture? Or did the client prefer these? Either way, very nice looking.

Can you show the back of the stealers?

    Re: Precinct Omega paints... Tyranids

You'll see more of how the backs are painted when I post a pic of the Broodlord later today (he's nearly done!).

@ChromeZephyr - There are lighter brown and grey highlights on the armour plates that will be more obvious on the more armoured models, such as the Zoanthropes and gaunts. The pink is a good question. I'm trying to work out the right shade. I'm a touch colour blind, so pink is a tricky colour for me. Fortunately, my lovely wife is helping out.

Taking some requirements from the client to include the pink shading from the Everblight scheme, I present today's output: the Broodlord!

Ohhhh, very nice. And you're a little color-blind you say? Wouldn't have guessed if you hadn't said anything, your work with the color scheme is impressive. I'm very interested in seeing what you do with the zoans.

Awesome work on the Broodlord mate. The pink works really well. I'm amazed you managed to make that mini look good! Much prefer the space hulk one usually.

btw I updated my Dark Angels after following some of your painting advice!

I still haven't painted my own Space Hulk 'stealers. I might nick this paint scheme for them, if time ever allows.

I really like this scheme - particularly the pink tones. Looking forward to more.

Today, I managed to finish one of the two Zoanthropes. I made good progress on the other one, but I was stymied a little by the news that my wife and I might be receiving our first foster placement today, and had to rush out to buy a bunch of additional bits and pieces.

    Still, here we go:

The broodlord fig is one of the ugliest in the nid range IMHO and your paintjob turned it epic. Im REAL impressed. Those highlights are to kill for...

    Keep em coming!

Zoanthrope's looking great, the pink detailing is very well placed. Congrats to you both on the foster placement. Saw it on twitter earlier but was too rushed to comment

Well done. The folds on the brain look very realistic, this plog is a treat to watch unfold.

Very very nice, do you mind detailing how exactly you did the grey/blue skin tones? Hell how you did it all would be great, I'm particularly interested in what part the airbrush is playing.

I basecoat the mini all over with Shadow Grey, using the airbrush, so just the deepest recesses are left black from the primer coat. I then airbrush Space Wolf Grey over that but only from above at a 45degree angle. This picks out all of the areas that need highlighting as well as providing a solid "key" for that highlight.

I then go to the brushwork. The highlights are improved with pure Space Wolf Grey working up to pure Skull White.

The armour plating is Scorched Brown/Chaos Black, worked up through Scorched Brown to Codex Grey.

The pink areas are base coated with a70/30 mix of Mechrite Red and Dheneb Stone, worked up to pure Dheneb Stone Tallarn Flesh, working up to pure Tallarn Flesh with fine highlights of Dheneb Stone.

    Zoanthrope Number 2:

    And Deathleaper:

I tried to get a "de-cloaking" effect going on on the Deathleaper. Let me know if you think it worked.
