AoW new release: Wood Elf Hero

From the deep forests of the Emerald Mountains comes a new hero, a Wood Elf.

The miniature has been sculpted by Edgar Ramos, based on conceptual art by Daniel Díaz Heredia and Wayne England. Wayne is also the author of the color illustration for the blister card.

The blister comes with two different heads, to assemble the miniature with or without hood.

Ah, the patented hair-flick is the optional head. Nice.

Not sure which head I prefer!

Don't like this at all, possibly the first AoW character I dislike. I find the faces unattractive, though the alternate is marginally better and I don't like the outfit she is wearing either.

I quite like it. Might be a bit too much D&D for my taste though, but I'll probably get it. Would've really enjoyed a dual mage/bsb-kit however.

Really glad it's in the heroic 28mm scale as opposed to rackham's excellent but not-so-great-for-warhammer-dakiniee-elves.

Good job! Now I want a unit of wood elf knights on foot with wooden armour!

Paintjob could be better.. what kind of wood elf wears make-up?

I could understand woad stripes or celtic tattoos, but not lipstick and eyeshadow.

I also think that the sculpt is too cluttered and that they should have stuck to the more simple armour in the concept art instead of the multi-layered dark-elf style armour covered in Scibor-style swirlie things. I think Felix needs to try to explain the idea of "less is more" to this sculptor since he seems to be a very "euro style" sculptor where every surface gets plastered with crazy amounts of tiny tiny detail regardless of whether this actually improves the look of the sculpt or not.

It always bugs me when I see awesome concept art and then the miniature looks worse.

The only distinctly bad thing that appears on both the concept art and the model is the "thong and thigh highs" combo that appears on about 90% of all non-dress-wearing female models that exist. Doesn't look like she would be very mobile or any good at climbing trees in what she's wearing, looks like a wood elf in heavy armour.

On a positive note, the cloak with the leaves is very well done.

It's a pretty big "meh" for me. The armor looks off and, as scarletsquig mentioned, the makeup is an odd choice. I understand that's nothing to do with the sculpt, but it's a poor advertisement for the model.

I'd put this below several Reaper sculpts in terms of female Wood Elves. This one's not bad, but not worth the asking price compared to other offerings.

On a related note, I think this is the first AoW miniature that I didn't either love or hate. Not sure if that's progress or not

Well, if this is the worst of AoW I think they can take comfort that it laughs in the face of the best Mantic can produce.

I think the armour is ornate in order to give the sense of Elvish craftsmanship. I agree that she shouldn't be wearing thigh high boots and a thong. Even if you are an elf that isn't what one should be wearing while crawling around in the woods.

More like the middle ground. This is better than their Beastman champion, the Chaos Warlord (that shield...), the male Dark Elf, and the Witch Hunter (looks like he brought his baby's hat to work...), but pales in comparison to several of their dwarfs and greenskins.

While I agree re: Mantic, the problem is this is, in my opinion, a failed attempt to look ornate and it comes off as cluttered.

Its a common fantasy thing, forest dwellers = less clothes. Because being scratched to bits by brambles is fun.

@ Loveless: Okay, this is their middle ground and still better than Mantic's best

@ Eldargal: Don't forget the stinging nettles, either.

It's a decent enough model. Might buy at some stage, though it doesn't really fill a gap in the range. A bit too cluttered perhaps, though the cloak is lovely.

It's nice, but a bit 'meh'. Could have been more dynamic.

Re: AoW new release: Wood Elf Hero

I'm with Satan, here: Wooden armoured knights, now.

That said, the gal's as purdy as they come in wood elfy chick-terms. Seriously, I've yet to see a truly beautiful face in "heroic" scale female elf miniature. If this is a taste of what the dark elfy chicks might look like (in terms of facial expresions), oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! We are in for a lot of nice surprises and not all might be good.

I just don't know, it looks... not cluttered, but a bit too ornate. Like this particular girl is trying to impress a visiting High Elf lordling or something or a wannabe just arrived at the poncies' court.

As of the make-up remark... please people it isn't part of the miniature. Comment on the model, sure. Criticizing the paintjob as if it made the actual sculpt bad... that's absurd, me thinks.

We make the games we want with the fluff we prefer and the models we own, as much as we please.

I just had to quote this!

I like the model. Since the heavy amount of armour ornamentations is in my taste, it likely will be too much for most people. The sculptor should learn that "less is more" for future minis.

As for the paintjob, however, lipstick and Wood Elves do not add up!

Love the mini, I will be ordering it as soon as it's available for Warhammer quest as well as Warhammer
