Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - INQ28mm

I've gotten the Inq 28 bug and have been converting quite a lot to build up warbands. Originally it was just going to be a Rogue Trader with his away team, but with the potential Inquisitor invitational needing an Inquisitor I started on that as well. This plog will serve as a record of building and painting the warbands as well as character stuff.

The crew so far for the Rogue Trader.

The Rogue Trader, Rogen Frey, is the least advanced as I wanted an idea of what the rest of the crew would have before settling on him. My plan for his sword is for it to have a shock generator, to give it some power without going the power weapon route, particularly as I think he'd be much more minded to go with a better pistol of some description rather than a fancy sword.

You also have the pilot/Thief - a man who really doesn't want to be there, but who has skills that Frey feels will be of use planetside. This guy started as a normal guardsman, but I found that as I started adding bits his role switched. He's clearly not heavily armed and I see him trying to avoid doing anything heroic during a game. His plan is to get to where he has to and do the job and then run like crazy.

The ex guardsman I like to call Lemmy - the basic muscle for the group - but someone (like the rest of the crew) who would not be out to get into a mas fight. Better to pick your targets. The model is an old Catachan tank rider with a space wolf scout head. The head pretty much changed the whole character of the model and combined with the very relaxed pose led to his current persona. He won't be called Lemmy, but he so reminds me of him.

Finally the Xeno-arcanist, a source of knowledge for Frey, but with very much his own agenda. I figured as a scientist of sorts that he would dress in a semi practical way hence an armoured gauntlet just in case things bite. He started out as becoming either a Bonded Emmissary, but when I started getting bits out I found things like the bones and that directed me towards doing him as he currently stands. Need to finish off smoothing his arms in place and he'll be getting a cyberskull by his feet to record artifacts etc as he journeys with Frey.

I'll put up pictures and descriptions of the other warbands and plan is to start writing their characters up now I have a better idea of who they are.

The characters are still forming, but building them has been very helpful in getting me to reflect character in the model and helping establish certain traits already that will inform writing their backstory.

Blues predominantly on Frey and the pilot. Maybe a camo scheme on Lemmy. Need to pick an accent colour though to carry through the lot of them to tie them together.

Icecream boy - hat might be past my skills unfortunately. Just figured hoods

Castellanash - the majority of Lemmy comes from a Catachan tank rider with the head changed and the end of his lasgun replaced.

Flash - it's coming. Need a bit of time to sit down and type up the next group.

I've started doing quite a bit of work writing up the backgrounds and characters for each of the warbands. Seemingly not in an organised manner as I've done Lynch the Witchhunter, Uriah the Pariah (see what I did there), and I've been building the stories for Rogen Frey and the Xeno Arcanist. It's been quite helpful building them like this as I've started getting character traits from their role in other people's lives. Been reading around the Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader books as well and getting ideas, which have helped give me a lovely purpose for my Radical Daemonhunter. Started work on the stats as well for the Witchhunter band and curiously got two statted out (though no skills yet) that I haven't written anything about.

Quite an odd way to go about things.

Been picking up new models for use in INQ28. I'm swapping one Vostroyan for another to better convert.

One of Studio McVey figures who will get a new gun to go with the Rogue Trader's band. I think this means the pilot/thief will just become a Thief letting this guy be the new Pilot.

Another Mcvey mini. Lightly armed sniper. Again I think she will probably go with the Rogue Trader as he seems someone more likely to tread lightly, but have a sniper in his back pocket if it goes badly.

Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - INQ28mm

Right well I've decided to go for a halfway house.

All the warbands are getting over the normal 4 figures built to give a variety of play options and also to add extra interlinking amongst the characters.

    The Witchhunters therefore consist of:

    Lynch - The Witchhunter
Uriah - The Pariah - human ganger wasting away every time he's forced to use his ability.
    Callidion - Ex Arbitrator
Malakai - Gunfighter, still after all these years trying to open Lynch's eyes up to pragmatism.
    Father Jericus - Priest
    Sister Jezaiil - Sister Repentia
    Magnos Ignace - Tech Priest

Lynch hails from the Amalathian ethos of Order Hereticus. He assumed the name Lynch when he joined Inquisitor Catriona Kyas as an initiate. His family are a noble trading house who operated from Prime. “Lynch” came into Catriona’s view when he undertook an investigation of cult activity amongst the upper echelons, including some members of that planet’s Adeptus Arbites. Young “Lynch” warned Catriona of an imminent attack and the Inquisitor was impressed by the boy’s strength of purpose despite his young age.

Taken from his family his training began in both scholarly and more practical instruction. In time Lynch was put in charge of his own group of acolytes carrying forward the Inquisitor’s, and of course the Emperor’s, will. One of the acolytes he worked with was Malakai, a gunfighter who had joined Catriona many years before. Lynch still has the tendency to see rights and wrongs and may at times have been a little heavy handed in his approach. Malakai has raised concerns both with Lynch and Catriona about a lack of understanding of the greys in situations, which maybe the reason that when Lynch was made a full Inquisitor Malakai left the employ of his former Inquisitor to join the newly ordained Lynch.

Lynch follows the Amalathian way of thinking. Calm the fires and slow change, should change even be necessary at all. Malakai would argue that Lynch’s simplistic views are because he has had little contact with that which might truly unsettle his views. On his more open conversations the gunfighter would suggest that maybe the child that Catriona recruited might not have grown up yet.

In the field Lynch usually leaves it to Callidon, Malakai and Father Jericus to investigate, preferring to enter the situation when he might purposefully move towards the solution. His armour has been modified so that he might preach the Word of the Emperor loudly and clearly. He wears neither hat nor hood so that those around might clearly see the face of one loyal to the Golden Throne.

Recently it has come to his attention that his family are moving trading opportunities into the sector he is assigned to. It is likely he may come into the contact with the family he left behind for the Emperor’s Service. For their sake let them be on the right side.

    Magnos Ignace

    Skills: None chosen yet
Equipment: Las pistol, Bionic arm (Avg Str 40, +1 armour), Bionic Eye (Avg), Auspex

Unusually for the group not a religious man in the same sense as the others. Following instructions from the Adeptus Mechanicus and looking for artifacts.

    Father Jericus
Not sorted his stats or skills yet.
Equipment: Carapace, Warhammer, las pistol, Autogun

The well travelled priest. Views Uriah as a project – get him to see his role in serving the Emperor. The autogun is a weapon of last resort. Far better to deliver zeal, much like his Master.

    The whole band together.

Based on some feedback from Commisar Molotov I've tried to do the feet on Ignace so they are square rather than roundish.

Arms also modified to blend in better.

    Malakai now in shooting pose.

Bolt pistol and hand modified. Since this shot I've strengthened the other arm by adding the green stuff as well which bulks out the arm.

Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - INQ28mm

Well this week hasn't quite worked out the way I planned with being in a car crash and all, but started building some new figures last night for Inquisitor. I've picked up a Chaos Sorcerer lord to convert probably into another Inquisitor. My current radical Inquisitor is using the FW Inquisitor Lok model, but I know for example that Molotov has a warband with one in so figuring to give myself more options by having an alternative.

Here's a shot of what was planned for that band

Tech advisor, ganger, daemonhost and Inquisitor. Now I'm definitely thinking of finding an alternate daemonhost as too many wires and I'd rather have a bound daemon than penitent witch.

The idea behind the Inquisitor is he's a radical member of Ordo Malleus, a member of the Scholariate at Arms. He's huning down prophesies relating to future daemon incursions, is fairly ruthless and has already sacrificed many to thwart potential prophecies bearing fruit. Definitely a Xanthite. His warband would be made of individuals he's picked up who would share a similarly pragmatic viewpoint. Now I'm thinking of maybe a Gunrunner (happily travelling with the Inquisitor and helping himself to spoils along the way whilst also helping the group travel around), aand an Interrogator (as there would be a definite need to get answers out in the field).

After reading the Gav thorpe list of concepts I am sort of tempted by a Witch Seeker to join Lynch.

What hasn't been seen in here is I've added two new bodies to the Rogue trader crew.

is my new Pilot. The previous pilot/thief just becomes a thief allowing me to focus on different aspects for both characters.

and this is the sniper that Frey directs to get into position to watch over the group whilst they work. The Rogue Trader band is very much about trying not to appear to be very hostile, but be able to turn around and deliver a punch whilst getting out of there without injury.

What I do need to sort out is some more head options and I could do with getting a grey knight marines set to get bits from there.

Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - INQ28mm

More work on getting Inquisitor models built. Stuff will be getting painted, but I'm building these whilst painting other stuff. Once I'm happy a model is all done, then I'll make a start on painting them. Very much at the moment I'm experimenting on getting figures built to fit character ideas, or building figures to see what character ideas come out of them.

Started on the purity seals on the penitent.

Then I've started building some new guys. This is going to be an interrogator for my Radical warband. I'm going to give him a load more knives and already given him a little satchel for other tools. I'll give him a servo skull to help in his work as well.

Then I had a body left over from nicking Caine's arms to use for Malakai so I'd been looking at giving him a new purpose.

So he's gone from drawing his pistols quickly to revealing a shotgun and getting ready to put a shell through. Pretty happy with how it's turned out. Fair bit of cutting to get hands in the right places.

    Comments very welcome.

Good stuff. Especially liking the Warmachine conversions, I never would have thought of that. And the Repentia is amazing, what did you use as the basis for her?

Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - INQ28mm

Thanks Ithaka. She's a Dark Age model originally and I've got two more from the same set to convert up at some point.

    http://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/mi...junkers-3.html

I spotted a nice idea in Migsula's log on dakka for a Sister of battle conversion from Dark Eldar. Having way too many warriors with more coming I started work on converting.

Then midway through today it occured to me that I had spare arms from the Cannoness that might work.

Pose 1 for the left arm which I may return to.

Then a bit of work later. I like how the arms work. I just may change the pose. I was looking for a blade in scabbard to hang down her back, but the one I have so far is way too big. No idea what she'd represent as a figure though.

    Callidon and hound.

Must start painting if only to stop me building.

    Thanks Havock.

Bit more on the Sister. It dawned on me tonight that I did indeed have a sword.

Sword from the Chaos sorcerer I've bought to convert to an Inquisitor.

Finally primed the first 4 figures to paint so going to start on them shortly.
