Incredible. Haemonculus covens were definitely the side of the army I always disliked. Especially with the finecast stuff. You've just changed my mind. Everything here is brilliantly well conceived and executed. Makes me want to expand my Kabal! I particularly like the Talos/ Cronos and the Grotesques. Although all the troopers are cool too.

Love your take on the Wracks - and all the conversions in general, of course.

I'd contemplated going the Haemonculus route myself, if I were to ever do a DE army, but was put off by some of the static metal/finecast models availabe, so it's great to see that it can work when done properly.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Cheers all. I really appreciate that you all feel so stringly about this army.

I certainly have a penchant for creepy looking stuff and when I saw the artwork of all the coven based stuff I had to have a go. I agree with everyone on the finecast stuff, the new Grotesques and Haemonculus are pretty weak (if not completely crap) but the Wracks are kinda growing on me. Thankfully I'd already gotten well on the way to making both my Warck and Grotesque units before the new stuff came out.

The Cronos was another one of thise kits that I just didn't like. The basic idea is great and the Talos componets are too but the 'squidy' look for the Cronis just didn't work for me. The good thing about the kit is that it's versitile enough to play with and I'm just glad the tail worked in the new position. Really happy with how my idea of the Cronos came out. I can just see him picking up guys in combat and giving them a big hug while his tail goes to work sucking the life out of them.

I should be getting new pics up this weekend. I'll get some other angles on the engines and some pics of the Haemonculus Ancient and the Scourges

I agree with others, coven models were the only thing I wasn't excited about in the new releases, but your conversions really are great. The changes to the Talos and Cronos in particular make me want to pick up one of those kits. Thanks for sharing!

This is amazing. And thanks for the breakdown on the components, you've given me some ideas for my Khainite Dark Elves (and made me want a Dark Eldar Army).

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Alright, sorry for the delay but now its time for some more pics!

I've gone back and taken a few more shots of the Taloses and Cronos to give a better idea of the work I've done. Its mainly just side views to show the profile of the engine rather than just a face-on shot.

The corpse in the Talos' hand is from the FW Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald kit. The sword if frrom a Hive Tyrant. I really liked the look in the artwork and dispite the arms on the Talos being very fixed I wanted to get a bit of the feel of the creepy picture.

I'm still so happy with how the Cronos has truned out that I had to show it off a bit more. From the side view you can see the secondary pair of arms as well as the profile. From this angle it really looks like a techno-Zoanthrope. It was unintentional at first but I really like the thought of it now. If I was to do it again I may even try to model the Cronos to look like a captured Zoanthrope.

I really hate the Spirit Vortex idea that the designers have come up with so instead I'm going to paint patterns anf whorls on the back section of carapace to mimic the those on the Vortex disc. We'll see if I ever actually get that far in this project but I really hope to.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

DOUBLE POST! I couldn't fit all the pics I wanted to into one post so here's a second batch of gribblies. Again, I just wanted to get some better pics of a few things so here are the Grotesques in all their unfinished glory.

The dude with the Ichor Injector arm will changed a little to incoporate a Liquifier to match those on the Wracks. I'll still keey the look but instead of a needle it will be the Liquifier barrel poking out between his fingers.

Here's a pic of the back on one of the Grots. All of them have the same idea going on. This is where the Spawn kit really pays for itself. There are already heaps of holes in the back to allow for all the extras that come on the spawn frame so I've used thise to position the spikes and vials. The spikes are off the spawn kit and the vials are all the xtras you get from buying three Talos kits at once, hehe. I loved the idea of the external spine in the artwork and so I've used a mixture of tentacles off the Cronos and Tyranid parts from the Trygon mandibles.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

TRIPLE POST!!! Finally gonna give you some new stuff! I never got a shot of my Coven Master, so here he is:

Just Urien Rakarth with a bit of a weapons swap. He now has a Dark Gate and a Venom Blade. I'm counting the streched skin on the face as a Vexator Mask.

Up next is my latest project, the Scourges:

This will evntually be a 10 strong unit with 2 haywire and 2 heatlances.

URGENT HELP NEEDED! I'm really running low on bitz now and have tapped all my sources locally. I'm looking for around 10 more of the Wyche/Reaver helmets and another 4 pairs of the feathered Scourge wings. I've tried several bitz sites but these are parts everyone is hunting for at the moment. If anyone is able to spare some of these I would greatly appreciate it. Send me a PM if you're able to help.

    Thanks, PHM

Looks like a bitch to pack, but worth it!

Think I like how the models are balanced the most. And the weird scales that make them creepy.

Lovely use of the Mandrakes' legs.

And the spawns slim waist looks good with the extra spine in the back.

Well, currently plane helmets available in Hoard O' Bits store on eBay, expensive like $4 for a single helmet.

The bases just use several layers of cork board stacked to make rock piles. I needed to give the Scourges the look of flying or perching on rocks becuase the Mandrake legs have a lot of movement but really look like they are grounded. I think it worked out quite well.

My idea for the baseing on this army is that the Coven is based in a huge underground cave system from an ancient age of Commoragh. The caves are flooded with the tears of all of Commoragh's victims over the millenia. So basically every base is going to have a layer of water effect over it to look like the army is wading through a shallow lake of water with rocky outcrops and bone piles everywhere. Hopefully I can achive this effect. I'll need to do a few practice bases I think before I start on the actual army.

Each one of those Grotes looks about five-hundred times better that the dancing, static piece of refuse GW came up with, and the Cronos is delightfully gorgeous. Awesome work!
