Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

    Hello again!

More work and a few practice games this week. I'm fiding the Coven list is really paying off for me. 'Feel no Pain' and 'Poisoned Weapons' are now my new best friends! I'm surviving better with these guys than I ever did with my multitude of marine armies.

On to the pics. Made a good start into the Grotesque unit and I can now really see them for the beasts they truely are:

Really looking forward to getting the rest of the unit done now.

Also while I was mucking about at my local GW store I saw they were making up the new LotR Watcher and just had to do this to it:

Really like the grotesque with the one tiny arm, gives me a twisted image of him fiddling with his own bionic hand.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

More painting done on the Grotesques. I have half the squad finished now:

The rest of the squad is still in the undercoat stage but hopefully they should be seeing some paint this week.

In other news, I recently orderd a HEAP of bases from Secret Weapon Minature (it was VoodooWorks but they seem to have been bought-out or died) and they just arrived. They're from the Alien Temple set and I think are are just what I was looking for. I was never totally happy with my original idea for the bases and they just needed a little bit more 'something'. Now doan't all yell at me about dropping my orginal idea of rocks and water, I'll be keeping them (especially on the scourges and Haemis) but they were going to be too plain with just that. With these new bases I have the right amount of detail I want while still allowing for my original idea. I'll do some tests this week and see what you all think.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Thanks guys. Well, I've spent the last week or so just making bases up and getting the finished models transfered over to the Aline Temple bases. I am so happy with how these are turning out, they have really helped to finish off the models and are so much better than what I orginally planned.

Here is a pic of what I'm doing with the bases:

I've gone for a greay pallet to keep with my orginal idea of them being in a flooded cavern. Also, in the lowest parts of the bases, I have added some water. This was done simply with a few layers of PVA glue and then a few coats of Gloss Varnish. I would have loved to have used Water Effect by the GWs here are all out of stock. I'm still really happy with how the water has worked out tho. I was going to make the water into blood at one point but after talking with a few mates I realised it would have clashed with the army pallet too much.

I've also finished up the pain tokens. Nothing much, just painted the skulls:

    Simple but effective.

Next on the block will be a lot more bases and the last 3 Grotesques. Hopefully some more updates soon

I thought water effects will be aplied with black bases to win on contrast, but grey looks good too.

Very nice effect. I also think that water stained with purple, red or green would have broken the monotony.

For water effect, you can use vallejo product or any kind of water based gloss varnish like this one http://english.fila.it/brands/giotto...y-varnish.aspx

    I want more !!!

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Hey hey hey! Its been a few months I think since I did any work on my Coven. What with buying a new place, moving and then planning the rennovations I've had little time for hobby. Add to that a commission Space Wolves army I've been working on for the last 2 weeks and that equals zero love for these twisted little freaks.

All that changed today when I saw the brand new Necron Wraiths and thought 'those tails are going on a Parasite Engine, NOW!' and promptly bought them and a Talos kit. I know I don't need another Cronos and I know I said I wouldn't be adding anything to the army before I finished painting a lot more of it but when an idea hits me I really can't control my fingers any more. Here's what they did while I wasn't paying attention:

I'd been thinking of doing a few more engines for the hell of it anyway and the Wraiths were just the kicker I needed to build one. I wanted to go for a more insectoid look with this guy as the fluff mentioned them as sort of bug like. The head, I have to admit, was not my idea. I was trying to give it a Tyranid Malanthrope type look with feeder tendrils and found it just wasn't working. My friend had a look at the frames and picked up the Ichor Injerctor arm and that was it. It was just the look I was going for and I'm really happy with the resault.

The tail from the Wraiths was also a perfect fit. If anyone else is looking to spice-up their Pain or Parasite engines then grab yourself some of these, they really add a heap of charcater and movement to the model. I went with the atrophide arms again to tie it in to the other Cronos. There's still some touch up work to do but he's pretty much done.

Don't expect to see much more on these guys for a while again as I'm only half way through my commission army and need to get that done. Once thats over I'll jump back into the dark pits of Commoragh and finish these bad boys off. Cheers all!

That looks fantastic. Utterly so. I find myself wondering how it would look with Whip Coils on the tail, too. Perhaps another...

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

There's something moving in the emptiness...

That's right! I'm not dead! Little-to-no hobby done in the last few months (since the second Cronos really) with life getting in the way too much and so on but my odd little brain has been working. I've had an idea kicking round in my head for ages now to do a DE army but using the Craftworld Eldar list. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this but its something I think could really look cool. With the realease of the 6th Ed rules and the strong push to use allies that came with it my brain has been even more active than normal.

I've decided to do an allied force to go alongside my Coven. Basically I'll be taking out all the 'kabal' elements from the current DE army (Archon, Warrirors, Trueborn and possible the Scourges) and using them to make the allied army instead. This will help bring the DE army back to my original idea of a pure Coven list but allow me to still use the models I already have that don't quite fit that theme. I'll be converting the Archon to a Farseer, Warriors to Dire Avengers and Trueborn to Fire Dragons. I've got fluff to make this work that I'll be putting up soon along with the WIP pics of the converted Archon/Farseer. The Coven will still get some love but I need to convert some stuff, I just need to.

Hopefully an update soon. Its good to be back.

I do really dig that Cronos conversion! Very clever use of the ichor injector arm for that insectoid face!
