Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Bring the Pain! Another fruitful weekend and another Engine painted. This time I worked on the Cronos. I've been wanting to put paint to this guy since the moment I made him and now that I can see the (near) finished product he is definatly my favourite model in the army.

Again, this picture is without the black highlighted but I got that done yesterday and also finished off the carapace on the previous Talos. All thats left to do is add a bit of detailing such as patterns/glyphs on the armour in purple.

For this I'm thinking of copying one of the designs out of the codex. In the picture senction theres a purple jetbike with bright blue patterning on it, I'm hoping I can get that type of effect but this black armour and purple patterns. For some reason my hand was shaking a lot this weekend so I was hesitant to try and paint it. I'll do some sketches or rough drawings up some time toon to get the right feel before I put paint to model.

Also for your amusment, a rather bad group-shot of all the finished models so far. Thers still around 30-40 models left to paint in the army....

Beautiful! The colour of the skin suits perfectly well and all those conversions incredibly individualize your army.

Fantastic work, I love the skin tone, what blues did you use? The group shot looks very sinister.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Thanks Venom, Stempe and Chris. Seeing the painted models all together has really got me in a painting mood and I've ben itching to start work on the Groteques since doing the two engines.

Chris, I think I've posted the recipe for the skin before but I'll put it up again:
    1) Black undercoat
    2) Base coat in Shadow Grey
    3) Heavy wash in very watered down Regal Blue. Add a bit of Badabb Black aswell
    4) 'Paneling' in 1:1 Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey
    5) Heavy heighlight in 1:3 Shadow Greay and Space Wolves Grey
    6) Lesser heighlight in straight Space Wolves Grey
    7) Medium - light wash in Azuryman Blue. Add a decent amount of water
    8) Final heighlight with Skull White

Wow, when I actually write it down it seems a lot mor complicated. No wonder I'm taking so long to get these guys painted.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Story time kiddies! Wrote a little bit of a story to give some insight into the Coven and their home below Commoragh. Enjoy.

Drip. Drip. Drip. Tears falling into an ocean. The withered creature smiled as he floated through his domain, comforted by the sound in the knowledge it came from the city above. The life-force of the millions sacrificed and killed each day to the Kabals and Cults of the city, distilled and concentrated, all running down into this cavern. Such a wealth of sorrow and anguish was immeasurable in Commoragh.

Drip. Drip. Drip. Fear. Pain. Desperation. The life-blood of the city fell on him like a cleansing rain, invigorating his ancient limbs. As he wafted through the stalactites the Haemonculus surveyed the cavern around him, his way lighted by the faint, blue bioluminescence radiating from his twisted flesh. Below him, wading through the lake of tears he could see more blue creatures scurrying about in their appointed tasks. All in service of The Fleshwrought. Wracks and Acothysts hunted through the dark, collecting the bones that littered the cavern floor and piled in its alcoves and corners. All to be sorted by type, species and cause of death. Vast sub-caves were filled with mountains of skulls, finger bones, ribs and less definable scraps of bone. The Osseous Halls echoed with the sound of bone on bone.

Click. Click. Click. One of the vestigial arms sprouting from the Haemonculus’ back tapped out a never-ending tattoo as he counted off the bones. The vast bulk of the Gallowghast floated behind him, an ever-present guardian and torture device. Waves of pain rolled off its black carapace and its muscles twitched with the stims fed into its system. Larger shapes moved through the darkness of the cavern and the deepest parts of the lake. Some intentional, intended for burden or violence on a great scale, others abortions, failed experiments, masses of limbs and flesh eking out a half-life in the lightless pits, killing anything that came too near their lairs.

Click. Click. Click. The count continued. More bones would be required soon. More bones and more flesh. The tributes from the Kabals could only go so far. Much more was needed. The Haemoculus reached out an arm, plucking a Blight Spider from the rocks nearby, and placed it on his outstretched tongue. He allowed the spider to bite him several time before crunching down on the hard body. The venom filled his mouth giving a brief but satisfying surge of pain and sickness. All too soon the sensation was gone. Nothing compared to the taking of life, the overflow of raw emotion that surrounded a battle field. Another raid was in order. More bones, more flesh, more pain.

Drip. Drip. Drip. Talamask Seffan, Master of the Fleshwrought Coven, Keeper of the Osseous Halls, drifted down from the heights of the cavern, eager to call his brethren. The others would not be happy to be disturbed from their work but the promise of war and death would secure their loyalty for a time to come. A hoard of ghouls was set to march to war and sorrow would follow in its wake.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Not too much work done recently, just been doing heaps of greenstuffng on the Grotesque unit to get them ready for painting. Having to sculpt all the feet on the unit is proving to be not fun.

To stop myself from going insane and possible eating the greenstuff to end the pain I did a bit more converting. A mate had the Stonehorn kit out recently and I took a look at the face/skull and thought it'd be great for a Venom canopy. Lucky for me, it worked:

Again, this will need a lot of greenstuff work to blend it into the Venom but I'm really happy with how it looks. Also decided to change the gunner a bit to make it less static. Both the changes add a lot more character to what was a rather bland unit before.

I also finally found a way to do my pain token. I've seen someone else do a similar thing and thought I would have a go:

This way I only have to make 1 toke per unit instead of a possible 3 and I can simply turn the die around to show how much pain the unit has. Plus it actually saves on a lot of skulls, if you can believe that

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

    Very good ! As usual

Great minds think alike : I had exactly the same idea for the canopy of my true born/wrack venom and exactly the same idea for the gunner... Waiting for the bitz...
The new ogre bitz are really great for our coven and I wait impatiently to the release of new kits for Vampire Counts, promising al ot new juicy bitz...

Your paint job is great, I really like what you did on the chronos...

I'm not a big fan of the "dices" token, but it's a good idea.

It's really a pleasure to follow your plog... and your example...

I like the idea of having the Raider/Venom barely touching the rocks instead of being suspended on a plastic pole. I assume you use some kind of pinning for the raider at least.

What base did you use for the raider btw. It looks like a regular GW round one, but it's much larger than any I've seen.

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

Thanks again Puzuzu and Stempe for your continued support.

Zywus, the raider base is a large oval base like what you get for the Dreadnight and Storm Raven. Both the Venom and Raider, as well as all the engines, are pinned to their bases rather than use flying stands. This way I can better make them look like they're flying without having a clear plastic rod sticking out of them

Wow. I'm now considering trashing all my current pain tokens conversions and steal your idea

The venom is also awesome, can't wait to see it painted.

I knew I've seen spirit syphon mounted on the cronos tail's end somewhere but I couldn't remember where. Splendid idea by the way

Great progress with the army. Some brilliant ideas (I like new venom and pain tokens.)
I think I'd just add more fleshy things on the pain tokens. So far they look more like VC bits and I think hemonculi would be more interested in alive (but hurt) specimen. So I'd go into pile of bodies/limbs with dice inside rather than pure bones

You Sir have an army that is very well painted and your conversions are inspiring. I'm afraid I'll have to steal a whole lot of ideas, starting with the pain tokens
    Keep them coming

    I AIN'T DEAD!

Sorry all for the complete lack of updates for the last 2 months or so. I've been on holidays for the last month and the end of last year was just hectic. I promise I'll be getting some more blue-skinned gribblies up on the boards soon. Next on the painting block will be the Grotesques. I managed to make an the last one and get all of them greenstuffed and undercaoted last year. When I get some time in the next week I'll begin the painting. See you all then

Great looking army mate, the conversions are inspired! Especially the scourges, i might have to have a crack at making some of those myself!

Re: The Fleshwrought Coven - Hamonculus Army

So I lied a little. I did get a bit of work done before I went away last year and I did in fcat get some pics too.

Got bored of greenstuffing sooooo much on the Grotesques so I painted another of my Haemis. This brings my painted Haemis up to 4 now.

Not as happy with this one, she seems to be missing something but I can't quite put my finger on what.

As I mentied in the last post I got the last of the Grotesques done as well last year, the Abberation in fcat. I'm quite happy with this guy. The extra armour, huge weapon and lunging pose help to define him as the leader of the group. Since this pic he (and the rest of his misshappen buddies) have been completed and undercaoted.

Really want to get to painting these boys so I can really have a nice chunk of the army done and dusted. Hopefully get some painting done in the next week.

EDIT: Something has been changed with the site during my absence. How do I get linked pics to be large now?

It's good to have you back.
Somehow people dislike the egg head shaped hemonculi but I have huge sentiment for the model and still using it in my army. Nice conversion job.
