I really like WHFB, except for the overpowered magic and enormous monsters.

Thus, an expansion focusing on magic and monsters... does not appeal.

To be honest, it's just an attempt at a midsummer cash-in for GW. While I don't begrudge them for trying to increase revenue, it really holds no interest for me. Aside from some cool new models, it seems like it's just a magical Godzilla mash-up. More big, scary monsters, and more spells that nuclear holocaust your army. Not interested, really. I may play a few games of it if my group is interested, but there's no way I'm dropping 40-50 bucks on a book that GW will make obsolete as soon as 9th edition comes out in 2 years.

Everyone to him/her-self. But not buying it because it maybe will become obsolete in maybe two years is a bit far fetched IMHO. That way you can not buy anything. Fashion clothing, technology in form of cellphones, computers. Even food only last so far. If it is great fun for two years, then why not?

But if nothing of the content holds interest then I can see your point.

Two years would be well worth the money but I don't see that happening. We played perhaps three games of Planetstrike (even though I liked that quite a lot) and one game of CoD and Apoc each. I realize that's a completely different kettle but it's reason enough for me not to bother.

I'm curious, if you enjoyed it, why so few games? Did your opponents hate it?

Playing pure khorne you should love the chance to devastate all of those cowardly wizards =)

Re: Will You Be Playing Storm of Magic?

I decided I'd might try it for a couple of games if somebody in our gaming group buys the book. I'm not too excited about Storm of Magic overall but having a test game hurts nobody (except my wizards).

I will definitely buy it, beyond that, I cannot know how often I will play it, until I try it.
Hope we see a Manticore with male/female rider option, would complete my force.

my preorder went wrong and i bought it today - looks like a lot of fun and something a bit different, it also gives you the chance to play around with interesting creatures and has spells and monsters that make even units of 100 cringe

    Yeaaaaaaaaah.... bought the book today.
Not to say I didn't like it, I loooooved reading through all the monsters with their silly upgrades and the even more silly spells, just..

Can somebody tell the guys from the LHC to stop working on what they are doing? I think they have a far bigger chance at finding the Higgs-boson by researching the Cataclysm Lore of Metal, as that piece of drunken rules development is broken into far smaller pieces than humanity has ever encountered...

I might try it once or twice, but from what I've heard I doubt that I'll like it. To much magic and to many monsters can easily "ruin" the game for me.

I thinks it will be awesome, if nothing else then for the alliance rules for the undead/demons and all the sweet monsters you can add! Can you imagine, Skaven with a couple detachments of Bloodletters and maybe an arochnak spider running around?!?!?!

I am looking forward to the big monster aspect of SOM.

I started in 6th edition and missed all the monster mayhem form the earlier editions.

I merely hope that GW will continue along the lines of what this SoM has begun....

Personally i don't plan on playing it often, maybe once or twice to try, but then stopping. I don't really like magic in warhammer, i feel it is already to strong. I prefer tactics.

Let me know what you plan on doing and why.
Interesting statement. Any decent general (in real life as well) begins with a stratefy. Tactics are more off the cuff, sort 'aha! Exposed flank, time for a quick exploit'. You know, capitalising on your opponents mistakes.

Storm Of Magic simply gives a very specific Strategy, i.e. 'I need a good few Wizardy types to hold them fulcrim thingies'. But the very restrictive strategies induces better tactics. Do you go all out to hump your opponents Wizards ASAP, or do you prefer to force your opponent into making mistakes, by seemingly opting for the obvious draw. Or you could, you know, have units suitable for a solid defence, with a few tricks up your sleeve for the final turn, to wipe the smug grin off your opponents face. Whilst most strategies and thus tactics will fall into these three categories, there are a wealth of tactics beyond the obvious to plug the multitude of grey areas.

And granted, I've had a chance to actually read the book in question (unlike this thread, let's just TLR, and I've been out on the Pop tonight). But whist several spells are outright filth, a good number are more subtle.

Furthermore, I couldn't give the proverbial at the proverbial about who actually wins, as long as both I and my opponent had a blast. And with Storm of Magic, that seems highly likely. I'm already noted in my area as something of a Warhammer Zoo Keeper, so it suits me down to the ground.

Now, I might have spent too much time in the toxic trollpit of Dakka, but here comes a caveat. I am not saying you are wrong in your view, just challenging it by explaining my own. I neither expect nor want you to agree with me all of sudden, just looking for a decent conversation And yes, that truly is necessary on Dakka. Not that the illiterate Chimps on there care!
