The cold and heat! (Infinity, Dystopian wars, 40k, random....)

I hope this threat will give me some motivation to paint up some of the stuff I have aquired and that is sitting around....

Finally decided on what army I was going to do next...
but after I am just a poor student, another GW army was out of question,
so I decided on starting INFINITY!
What a difference-- the play-style is very different and refreshing compared to 40k. And IMHO it is much more tactical and requires more thinking than 40k.

I settled on the Ariadna Highlander army, because I just LOVE the kilts.
And I also favor my fights close and personal...

The first things I bought were the Caledonian Highlander army starter pack, a highlander cateran (because the model is awesome and badass) and the Highlander Galwegian warband.

Right now I am waiting for my order of another few minis, including Uxia McNeill (as a girl, she will be the figure in the army I identify with....), the female Para-Commando (she will be my para-medic) and the Mormaer (I need at least ONE Space Marine like figure for my addiction....).

I also ordered William Wallace, but I want to paint him up as a present for my dad, because he LOVES Scots and the Highlands.

No, I dont know if this army is particulary effective (I only just started with the rules....reading them SLOWLY), but I love the models and it will be much fun to paint them.

Re: Ferocious and wild (Infinity, 40k, random....)

After receiving the models, I was automatically comparing them to the GW metal ones.
First of all-- compared to the prizes for GW here in NZ, I get INFINITY miniatures for half the price here. That alone was a great incentive to start.
The metal is a lighter in colour than the GW one, and I have the impression it is also a bit softer?
Small bits like swords and knives bend very easily.
The detail on the miniatures is similar, but the style is different--
for one, these models are more to scale.

Compared to a GW Space Marine, the highlander model is quite a bit smaller--

Some pictures of some of my assembled models:

I plan to have those guys on bases that show slate (therefore the tree bark) and a mountain snowy winter in the highlands theme.
For that, I collected some lichens that grow on the trees here (wet area) and bought snow flakes as well as a glitter paint to re-create the icy-sparkle.

Ruby is a model I'd love to have an excuse to buy! My club is planning to start a Wild West campaign, soon, so I have a vague plan to propose morphing it into a Far Stars campaign with laser six-guns, robot sheriffs and power armoured outlaws. Ruby would fit right in!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with Infinity.

I undercoated my INFINITY models white (I want to give them a snow camouflage colour so they fit with my snow bases) and inked them black to have a guidecoat for painting.
Wow, here you can really see the amazing detail on these models!

    Here are the reinforcements--

    The girls:

I cant stop myself to do a little critique at Corvus Belli/ Infinity here.
The sizes of the miniatures are very inconsistent--
some of the models are much taller than others.
Especially disturbing is this when I compare the girls with the others.
Her an example-- Wulver (big strong werewolf-like type of guy vs Uxia)

I know, its similar in GW with Space marines and guardsmen for example, but for me its a strange trent in the industry that disturbs immersion!

    Yeah right....
and what about the Caledonian Volunteers? They look like kids.
Its not a big problem (and as I said, GW does it, too), but still looks a bit strange.

Finished the first models of my Highlander army.

I based them with lichens which I collected outside, and snowflakes mixed with PVA and some glitter paint to give the sparkle of fresh snow.

    Cateran:

    Highlander

    Para-commando

    Wulver

Re: Ferocious and wild (Infinity, 40k, random....)

Today, I got my order of new shiny boxes to play with....

beside Highlanders for Ariadna, I decided also to start Haqqislam--
because I like their background best.
Haqqislam are completely opposite of the current Muslim stereotype,
they are for science, progress and humanity. Nice to play a faction
    like that for a change!

I also got a blister of the Ariadna 112 fireman doctor (great model),
a 13th moblot and an Asawira for the Assassins.

Over the weekend, I also continued to paint on my backlog of miniatures
    on my shelf!

Here he is, the True Blood Angel:

For some reason I like that model, and thought of converting him to Chaos...
I also liked the sparkly snow that I used for the Highlanders, and so gave him a snow base.

Just finished two more guys for Ariadna.
After the Infinity models are smaller than GW models and also have a huge amount of detail, I need more time and care painting them...
and of course, it is also a real joy painting them up!

Its the 112 rescue service doctor and a Moblot.

This moblot I painted up as a present for my brother--
I tried to paint it Fallout style, after he loves the games.

The fireman doctor for my Ariadna force--
    very awesome model IMHO.

Nice stuff. It's always great to see some more Infinity here on the boards and you got quite a lot of stuff already (also two of my more beloved factions!). Keep it up!
