WIP - Lovecraft:ian Tyranids

Hi. New to the forum, so I'm not sure how and why people start logs here, but I'll make a try.

I have been draging an old project behind me a long time. Now I've set up the last of september as a date to push for.

The idea is, as title says, a Nids army with just Lovecrafts wonderful mythos in it. With the tricky blend of some humour and a bit of the strange. The majority of the army will be plastic GW parts.

What I'm hoping you guys can do for me is some critique (even though I may not have time to correct accordingly, changes may happen later), ideas, helpful spells, or just plain encourangement.

As for now I'll keep the painting-level to TT. Hopefully I will get back to upgrading the paintwork and the bases later. I know it's a stupid way to do it...

Great idea, I like the steelers at most. Really nice conversions and (sometimes comedyish) sculpting.
And your termagants really look like degenerated freaks - good work!

Brilliant idea. I'd consider the shoggoths again though - because theres no edge to the base they look a little too shapeless to be.. well.. anything.

I love the work you're doing. At first I thought you were doing a Lovecraft inspired Tyranid cultist list, but I like what you're doing much better. Too bad one of my favorite of his stories, "The Rats in the Walls" doesn't really translate to be seen on the 40k TT. Well done though. I can't wait to see more.

@JoeRugby: The cultist are made from Skaven clanrats & plaguemonks. Mainly clansrats, love those models. I would like a lot of stuff to be bigger then they are now. But for gameplayability I have to keep it down a notch. Already have other plans for Carnifexes, so Dagon has to be weedy

@TimLeeson: The Shoggoth(s) are made with some form of Sculpey (don't have the name in front of me).

@GomezAddams: I agree with you. Will make some new ones, later(tm), with at bit of the base showing. And with a bit more detail, as I've learned more about Sculpey during the process.

Love the Shoggoths and the Gug. What about trying a Mi-Goh as a lictor. Also would be great to see some batrachian Innsmouth folk as more cultists

Love this whole thing man. I am a big fan of Lovecraft and this force looks great, especially the Deep Ones.
One bit of personal opinion. I don't see a shoggoth as a ripper swarm. They were like the Swiss army knives of the Old Ones. They tore the heads off of everything. I just see a shoggoth as being like a carnifex. Big, deadly, epic.
Not to be critical man, I love the idea of them being used as rippers, I just see them as being way more monstrous. Keep this going. I love it.

You could have Flying polyps counts-as zoathropes/venomthropes too.

@TimLeeson: Way ahead of you. I'll build them as Venomthropes.

@AtmanAbecedarian: Yeah I know. But I can't build everything as Trygons and Carnifexes. Some of the stuff has to take the small parts... If there's enough Rippers it becomes a pretty deadly Shoggoth.

@Power Hungry Monkey: The Mi-Gos gonna be Gargoyles, and I think I gonna do Dimensional Shamblers as Lictors. I have to add the Innsmouth Look somehow. Would it fit as Termagants? Or should they be something better? As there is so much I wanna build it may happen that, for example, Genestealers are Innsmouth folk and the Deep Ones become Yngarl, or upgraded Genestealers. Would it be to confusing?

Shrikes gonna be Byakhees, but Warriors gonna be something else (Don't know what yet). So the confusion is already there.


Tried some Camera-app filter to hide how awful camera and lightning I got. But I have to keep excusing, because it still doesn't look that great. Well, enough excuses.

I don't have time for new ideas! But yeah, I definitly have some stuff to think about in the future. Underestimated how close folks held Shoggoths to their hearts
