Just got back from a trip to mexico. I stopped by a hobby shop and found this book:

I just had to have it when I saw that it had a section on Nippon.

I also got my Perry order in the mail, and I spent the morning today building stuff.

The Perry samurai cannon is rather puny looking, so I'll have to upgrade. I found this picture in the book that I will try to emulate:

    This might be useful... http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...dId=prod780902

Only things left to buy now are 30 spearmen and 7 cavalry with spears.

Welcome back! Glad we didn't lose you to the jungle.

Nice find on the ravening hordes book! I had no idea Nippon was even mentioned, so that's really cool. This army is really shaping up nicely.

...though it'd be nice to see some more painted miniatures.

Ya, about that, hehe. It's going to be another couple of months before I get to seriously painting these guys, cause I'm going to a tournament October 22nd, so I'll be whipping up some Averland Empire for that (50 halberds, 20 flagellants, and a couple of characters). But I should have some stuff done by Halloween.

Here is an attachment of an army list I plan to use for this army.

Looks good to me. Why aren't the handgunners or militia detachments? The spearmen have two slots available and it would make for fewer units on the table that can cause panic.

Re: Arduhn carves out an empire in Nippon.

One of the units of archers is actually huntsmen (ninja). I might use the handgunners as detachments actually, I just hadn't decided yet, so I made them seperate units, but I probably will change that.

On the other hand, I might want them to hang back, with a Wizard in each, with the cannon on one flank while the melee troops advance. It all depends on the scenario and what role I need them for I guess.

I just visited the Perry Miniatures website, and it seems they've updated it. There's a shopping cart now!!! *choir of angels* Finally!

Well, I made a promise that I would start painting more when the weather got colder. I got up for work this morning, and my windshield was frosted up, which means I am painting today. I have everything glued, aside from about 25 sashimono for the spearmen.

Today I've been working on a wizard, the one with the straw hat.

See, I'd believe that, but winter is late this year. Usually we have snow by Halloween, but none yet. Still, I'll blame you guys for this travesty:

My car doesn't look as awesome now!

Anyways, here's the fruits of my labour.

And my girlfriend got in on the painting fun last night with my friends and I. Looks like she has some talent!

Well you didn't leave me any other choice. :chrome:

Is that your GF's first attempt at painting?
If so that's really great, and even if not that's a pretty sweet paintjob either way.

And you better keep on painting or else...

Re: Arduhn carves out an empire in Nippon.

She's helped me before when I've been getting ready for a tournament, but that's her first finished miniature. I did the flesh, but everything else was her. I was pretty impressed with it myself.

Also, for both miniatures, keep in mind that the camera is really good, and you can't see it that well with the naked eye, so it looks even better in person!

I should be getting 100 points painted, minimum, each month from now on, so a 2500 point army should be painted up in about two years time.

That Ravening Hordes book is one hell of a lucky find! And to think it has Nippon in it too.

I'll follow this, I have a pretty big love for Japan and it's culture.

Re: Arduhn carves out an empire in Nippon.

I was so ready to go off on whoever revived this thread after 7 months of inactivity and lead me to falsely believe Arduhn had updated it, and then I saw it was Astraeos, at which point I thought:
"Oh, that Astraeos, digging up an old thread and tricking me. He sure got me good!"

I think that means we're friends. Or part of some elitist chapter-master-level clique. Same thing, I guess.

So since we're here anyway, what's going on with your Nipponese, Arduhn? Have they gone the way of the samurai, or can we look forward to some forthcoming updates?

Now that Astraeos has done the dirty work for us, tell us Arduhn, how's life? Any progress on the nipponese front? Has your GF done more painting, maybe even, dare I say it, surpassed you?

Whoops, not the first time I accidentally did threadmancy. Although one time I did manage to get an old thread going again!

I was talking to Arduhn a while ago about finding some proxy minis for the new Empire army book. So I assume he's at least thinking about the project

Lord Dan says: "We got 'im!"

Well...I'm going back to school in September, and I will be learning Japanese. So yes, I think it's time to start painting some Samurai. It's funny, cause I was just looking at this thread yesterday to find pictures of painted miniatures to show to a friend.

@Lord Dan, I've picked up a few more of them, and I've been looking at army lists, but no progress on the painting front yet. I might just have to do some painting tonight though.

@Astaeos, subtle, dropping hints, "one time I did manage to get an old thread going again!" as if you didn't intend this all along. You sly dog!

@Gargabot, she hasn't done any more painting, no. It's not really her thing, but she does it sometimes just so she can spend time with me. *cue the "aww"s

@Jericho, indeed, I have been thinking about the project. I still don't know what could be used for Demigryph replacements though. Speaking of Demigryphs, I have some behind the counter for you, along with the other stuff you requested. I even saved you a white dwarf, which is lucky cause they're sold out!

If you guys keep asking about this, I'll probably get more done. That's how I work. I'm an attention whore, what can I say, and I hate letting people down. I've been preparing for my class in September by learning some Japanese writing, so...banners should be fun!
