    Black Templars, Crimson Thunder Crusade

    'Heresy Grows from Idleness'

The Black Templar codex may be 6 years old and lacking behind in unit choices compared to the newer Marine codex’s however the imagery and sheer awesomeness of the army have me hooked.

What’s not to like about a bunch of Space Knights Crusading across the galaxy, hell bent on destroying everything that stands against the Imperium whilst bringing death and destruction apron the Witch, the Mutant and the Heretic!

This army is very much WIP and I hope this blog will encourage me to finish painting what I have already bought.

I was lucky enough to come across the limited edition Emperors Champion, I much prefer this model compared to the current model, the model seems much chunkier and deadly.

My first shooting unit, some Plasma for softening up Power Armour and Grey Knight Terminators. I hope to enlarge this squad with my next round of purchases.

Some Crusaders. Each has scripture painted onto the armour as well as the purity seals.

In my painting to do list I have 5 Bikers, Whirlwind, Thunderfire Cannon (Both for Apocalypse) Chaplain, a few Rhinos and 2 units of Crusaders as well as some Sword Brethren conversions.

Nice work so far, I too prefer the old emp champ! The marines are looking very crisp so far.

I think he looks pretty decent in Templar colours One day I'll get round to magnitising a Banner

In standard 40K games I remove one of the DCCW and add a Lascannon I keep the drill arm as it looks badass

Your painting is really crisp, your highlights well placed and your choice of colors is nice.
They do look a bit dark though, that might just be the photo fooling me but if not they are pretty dark.

    Cheers

Re: Black Templars, Crimson Thunder Crusade

The lighting was pretty poor in the house when the pics were taken, although the paint scheme is deliberately dark and bloody. I took great delight in adding the blood to the chainswords to give a good impression that the Templars got stuck into the foe.

I was originally going to paint the bases with a snow theme however after some consideration I wanted a different colour to contrast with the Black and White of the Power Armour.

Today I intend to make a start on painting 4 more initiates to help finish off another Crusader squad and depending on what time I go out drinking latter start making 3 boxes of Neophytes.

The Techmarine from the Thunderfire cannon is sitting on my desk taunting me to paint it, but I’m saving that model till after I get some core infantry ready.

Aye I agree Brother-Marine! I've been excited about the Codex since the very rumor of it.
They are an awsomely themed army. Dark Ages Crusaders on a Galactic scale.

Remember, the longer the army takes to finish the longer the enemies of The Emperor live
to plot against his domain and cause suffering to his citizens.

Their survival must not to continue.

Just a few days ago I lost a game with my black templar. Your log reminds me of why I hold on to them. Thanks!

The internet will debate the sword style or history all day, but it's pretty pointless to look for logic in a world where dudes get in mile long space ships to travel a hundred years to fight with swords.

Use photobucket.com and use daylight when taking pictures. Especially on black models.

I did both, the daylight was rubbish and I wanted to get this blog up and going so took the pics anyway and even after resizing the images in photobucket I previewed my post on warseer and the pics were in huge size! I didn’t know if this would have been corrected if I posted it anyway but I freaked out and edited the pics to use Warseer's attachments

I'll redo the photos some when soon but I’ve been rather busy lately, Saw Judas Priest on Sunday then watched Iron Maiden last night Plus I’ve painted four more Initiates giving me two painted Crusader squads; I'll hopefully post some pictures tomorrow.

Right I'm off to write a 1.5k army list to fight an Inquisitor heavy Grey Knights army tomorrow

Re: Black Templars, Crimson Thunder Crusade

The 1.5K battle against Blood Angels went rather well, was facing a rather tame army list composing of a LR Crusader with Deathcompany and Chaplain, large unit of Stern Guard with Librarian and Priest, large unit of Scouts with Priest and a smaller unit of scouts. I used 2 Crusader squads with Lightning Claw/ Storm Shield Marshal and Champion with Accept any Challenge, 5 Assault Termies in Land Raider, 2 Typhoons and a small Plasma Crusader squad. By Turn four I'd lost most of a Crusader unit and the Terminators, the BA only had 1 Scout left and conceded
