This makes me happy I've spent the last two months painting ogres! I think the kits are good, and after a little while, even the cat-ox models will grow on me.

All in all, a pretty nice set IMO, but not fully flooring me.
The big beasties are solid, my only point of contention is the Stonehorn's face. It just looks a bit odd.
The riders I'm not a fan off, too precariously balanced, it just looks like someone took basic ogre bulls and glued them onto the back of the animal models without even any conversion work.
The cannon/scraplauncher kit is much better, and combines much more smoothly than the Skaven catapult/lightning cannon one. As someone else mentioned, it does look like the rhinox with the cannon is a bit on the small side for it.
I especially like all the attention to detail, there's so much to pick up on looking over the models for a while.
That's a pretty slanted view of things. For one thing, a lot of infantry are already done in plastic, so they're understandably less of a priority.
But even with that, looking back over the past year we have Storm of Magic (4 monsters), Tomb Kings (1 monster, 1 cavalry/beasts, 1 infantry), Orcs & Goblins (1 monster, 1 cavalry, 1 infantry), Skaven wave (1 monster, 1 war machine), High Elf wave (2 infantry, 1 cavalry), Island of Blood (not a set of kits on it's own, but certainly containing plenty of infantry with only one proper monster) and Daemon wave (1 monster (kind of), 2 cavalry/beasts, 1 infantry).
So even ignoring Island of Blood in the last year we've had 8 monster kits (if you count the daemon prince) to 5 cavalry kits and 5 infantry kits. There's no denying a trend of big monsters with releases, but it's not fair to say they're the near-sole focus.

When did GW release something? Was it plastic or metal? Who sculpted it? Come find out:Fantasy, 40K, LOTR, BFG, Blood Bowl, Epic, Inquisitor, Man O' War, Mordheim, Necromunda & Warmaster
I quite like them. And I agree with previous posters that the flesh skin tones look much better than the gray the Studio used last time around (I painted mine flesh, although a more pinky flesh.... but I was using them as Drow slaves for our D&D campaign, so it made sense at the time).

Sometimes I actually do stuff and occasionally even take pictures of the result.
Wow. The new riding beasties (big and small) look amazing. The Stonehorn is very cool.
Those who know don't care any more, and those who care don't know.
Yeah, I think pre-orders go up the week before they come out (So for the first release of the month, when White Dwarf comes out).
I'm liking the new monsters. I have to wonder why they bothered coming up with new mounts for Ogres though, when Forgeworld have already made great Rhinox Riders. Just seems... odd, making a new unit for one that's already existing. I'm hoping there are design notes on that really, other than "Oh, so we wanted make even cooler mounts than Rhinox for Ogres", maybe a specific reason why they went for new mounts over Rhinox.
A little dissapointed also if the special character rumours from Eastern Barbarian are true though. 4 Special characters is not a lot, considered Skrag and Greasus are sure to make the cut. So just two new ones. I'm sure they could've come up with a lot more than that.
Overall, release is looking pretty nice. I'll be interested to see what Finecast models there are. Hopefully there are some pretty ace figures to go along with the plastics.
Everything has really grown on me since I saw the pics yesterday.
Will get two of each boxes at least initially, even if I find the "dog screwed cat whose babies got porked by a horny rhinox" riders odd no matter who I look at them and I can see lots of stuff in the boxes that I can use for my regular Ogres. I want new heads in particular and this release delivers.
September seems too far away!
My hood is my castle...
I'm a big fan of the Stonehorn and cavalry. I don't really like the scraplauncher though, although it is an improvement on the old one; which I hated. The big mammoth thing is cool but its huge animated horns bother me somewhat. I'm not a fan of the big mounted cannon either, I think its just that goofy rhinox though that pretty much ruins that entire kit for me.
Either way ill be making an army centered around bulls, cavalry, the mammoth and a Stonehorn.
Does anyone know if the Stonehorn can be used other than as a mount? Like is it a rare or special? The ogre on its back in the pic doesn't look too special so I'm assuming its not a character.
