Beasts and Stone seem a decent enough theme for ogre magic. Those are the winds of magic that they're going to associate most with. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fire added as well.

This IIRC has only happened to 4 kits (discounting batallions):Orc Boyz, Ork Boyz, and Cadian and Catachan infantry. It's far from a certainty. It's pretty standard practice for old kits to be repackaged with model photos on the front rather than the old artwork.

On the plus side, Maneaters are likely to get cheaper if the Ushabti are anything to go off.

On the downside, Ushabti are still so overpriced that they've basically been shelved by all Tomb King players except by people who specifically want to use the models. The TK book is generally pretty well internally balanced... but Ushabti were one of the few losers in the book.

Hopefully maneaters will be more viable than that.

and to be fair, when they went from 16 ork boyz to 10 ork boyz in 40k they gave us a ridiculous WEALTH of options on the sprues.....like being able to make a nob for one as well as all the weapon options. Honestly, I doubt they will repackage bulls or ironguts as the models are fine and there's no reason to mess with em.

    Re: New Ogre Rumours

In fantasy Orc boys went from 19 to 10 in a box for a marginal price reduction and no new options I think on the other hand? The reduction only due to recent price increases as well. No need to mess with them as the same sculpts.

Beastmen went from 12 Gors and 8 Ungors in a box to 10 of either for a marginal price reduction etc. I think it's clear what the trend is so I would be very surprised if they didn't repackage the ogre core / up the prices significantly and if I were an ogre player would be getting what I wanted of the core and any other models I was happy with or thought wouldn't be changing now.

I see currently at least one good reason to redo the sprues: adding left hands for naked bulls.

I'm currently torn between buying the last Ogre bataillon in my local shop and waiting for a new one: the future bataillon might well cost more than the current one for less content, but at least I should be able to buy it on maelstrom, while if I buy the last bataillon from my local shop, I will have to pay the full 80 euros.

That's not relevant since you're comparing old sculpts with new ones. The gors reused some of the heads, horns and arms, but the bodies were all new, and the ungors were new altogether.

    Re: New Ogre Rumours

It is relevant, price per model increased IMO for a very similar sculpt when it comes to Gors, ungors obviously less so and included the new weapon options. Weighing pros and cons on the other side they are new sculpts and now have more variation but it's hardly irrelevant. Also note just one of many examples.

Also particularly when it comes to battalions the trend has been for model count to decrease and price to increase which was my point. Hence also why I said models which you are happy with currently or you think won't be replaced should probably be picked up now rather than later.

Even the new bits fit in perfectly well with the old bits and can be intermingled without looking at all out of place; there was no noticeable increase in quality or significant difference in appearance, you just got a few more options; so you end up with the fact that prices went up 60% in one fell swoop (from £18 for 20 to 2x £15 for 10+10)... and you think that's irrelevant? What a bizarre thing to say.

    Re: New Ogre Rumours

The discussion was about repackaged old sprues. The beastmen were not repackaged, thus any discussion about them is irrelevant. Whether the new models look good or not or are more expensive or not is totally irrelevant to the question of if the old ogre sprues will be repackaged.

Heh, I meant Maneaters would be actually cheaper, monetarily, in real life.

Ork Boyz actually decreased in price when you factor in the unmentioned 11th model (the Nob). Add in the fact that they gained the big shootas and rokkits, and that recut of the sprues is a solid bargain.

The bits fit together, but if you're saying there's no increase in quality from old to new, then you've never worked with them. Old gors were great stylistically, but they only had 3 poses (2 for the ungors), and the details often melded together (cloak touching the leg is most obvious, but the musculature has no definition either). The new models fixed all those issues, added new poses, and added a variety of new heads and weapons, better command bits, extra skulls (few extras on the old sprue).

The gors and ungors got a lot more expensive, but when you factor in the details and bits, they're much nicer, and the cost of starting beastmen didn't increase because there was never a battalion before, which absorbs the price increase. Having one of the top 3 usable battalions (you will use several battalions worth of models, leaving little on the sideline) makes beastmen not a bad deal at all.

Orc boyz and imperial guard increases were pretty brutal, and should have been part of a recut to include more options (or included a new sprue with more options), but those are really the only examples with the less for more change.

Except for one thing everyone seems to forget... Pretty much every boxed set for metal units went from 10 models down to 5 with roughly a 30% price increase per model.

Ogres never really had that type of set since the majority of their stuff is based on the plastic bull sprues. Anyways, just saying
