As Vaaish says. Dominator Gothic is a very good combination with no need to squadron.

I really like the battleships because i think it pulls the fleet together in a psyhological way for the player.

Re: No Battleships in Imperial Fleets?

Hi, I was thinking along similar lines, mainly as the Battleships are more expensive!
I recently bought a Chaos and IN fleet and they have all been assembled so I am somewhat stuck with what I got!

So these are the IN cruiser configurations I have, any thoughts?

    • Lunar
    • Lunar
    • Lunar
    • Dictator (Or Mars)
    • Tyrant (Or Overlord)
    • Gothic

The Battlecruisers are in brackets as some of the dorsal guns on the models are broke or missing so I haven't decided on keeping them as Battlecrusiers or turning them into regular Cruisers. What do people think?

I am not concerned into making the most competative list but rather one that offers varied tactical choices and is basically fun to play! I'm not a WAAC gamer at all, this will only be for very casual games! :P

So long as you didn't go overboard with the glue its not too hard to pop off those imp weapon pods. If you do that they're a breeze to magnatize then just make what you want. For 750 you could run the dictator w/cheap commander 270, two lunars 360, and pick up a light cruiser or a half squad of cobras for the last 120. That's a ton of torps 4 launch and decent broad sides, all around good basic imp fleet anything over that and your gonna need more ships tho

I think I'd change one of the lunars into a dominator and take the mars and overlord with the target array upgrade on both would make for an fun fleet. It might not be the most effective and you might need more AC but it should work alright.

Overlord armageddon combo works well. That would give you a solid base of lr firepower backed up by the two lunars and gothic in close range Yikes! Of course that's pushing 1500 and only a dictator for fighters but, with every ship dropping torps you would come out about even on ordinance. Plus you wouldn't have to really change any of your ships that way. You would just hit up bit barn or something for dorsal lances on one of the lunars with a solar admiral and some rerolls you could strech this to 1500 (1465 +3 1475 if you take extra turrets on the overlord)

Re: No Battleships in Imperial Fleets?

Thanks for that guys. I will probably go with Vaaish's suggestions.

Now the same questions for my Chaos fleet. I know this is a IN thread but I am loath to start up a whole new thread for a simple question.

    Here's what I have:

    Styx heavy cruiser
    Acheron heavy cruiser
    Murder/Carnage
    Devastation
    Devastation
    Devastation

    What do ye think?

Again not striving for the most competative list but rather interesting and basically fun to play and plays well opposite the IN fleet.

That's a pretty strong fleet right there.

The IN fleet will hate you for that. If I remember, you've got 4 LB in the IN fleet you put together. This one has 18LB. That means you are giving the Chaos fleet total ordnance superiority in addition to the range they have for their lances. That's going to toast the IN fleet without even trying.

I think you should tone back on the devastations and leave the styx for what you are doing. Perhaps take another carnage and murder instead of the devastations and swap the Acheron for a Hades.

    So,
    Styx
    Hades
    2x Carnage
    2x Murder

For the last cruiser you could go a couple of routes. Take escorts, take another carnage or murder, or take a slaughter. Although you aren't going to have the most efficient fleet, it should be a bit more fun to play against as the IN list.

Vaaish is right, for keeping it interesting the ordnance in the Chaos fleet has to go down.

One Styx or two Devestations max.

Re: No Battleships in Imperial Fleets?

    Thanks again guys.

As before, these were the configs that they were built as but I'll do some rearranging with some scratch built weapons batts, as I don't have any spares. Anybody have any suggestions as to what makes good weapons/launch bays for Chaos (Or IN for that matter)? Any 40k weapons, since I have lots of those...?

Bitz barn carries both imp and chaos spares.

Hi guys, I was just wondering, if you go for an all-cruiser fleet, how necessary are escorts? Do you need them to have a fun game or are they optional extras?

I have 8 Cobras (as part of a larger purchase) but no frigates.

Going with a crusier fleet of the following, what escorts would you recommend? Firestorms or Swords perhaps?

    Lunar
    Lunar
    Dominator
    Mars
    Overlord
    Gothic

    Thanks!

They're usually not taken in one off games except as needed for point filler. That said your fleet as it stands fits nicely in 1500 Lunar/Lunar 360 Dominator/Gothic 370 Mars 260 Overlord 220 8x Cobras 240 Fleet Admiral 50. Its a bit light on carriers but has boat loads of torpedoes and a couple novas so that should help balance you out. If your looking for a campaign list I would get a few each of Swords and Firestorms for scenarios requiring escorts (4 Swords and 3 Firestorms would fill out your Escorts to an even 500 pts which is what I recommend for all standard campaigns starting out: 1/4 escorts give or take).
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Re: No Battleships in Imperial Fleets?

I would personally be uncomfortable with that little launch capacity. My usual go-to is 2 Dictators. I usually don't use a Mars but then again, my IN fleet doesn't have nova cannons in favor of up and close torpedo stuff.
