    Re: BL Release Calendar

Mr.Swallow has the honour of Deus Encarmine being my second venture into the Black Library, with Mr.Green's Iron Hands being my first. Despite that, I can't say I ever really got along with James Swallow's Blood Angel series apart from a few select scenes. For example, I loved the opening of Red Fury with the Flesh Tearers and those sections in Deus Sanguinius when Rafen would move amongst the people, going to pray in the basement; also the gladitorial arena and the way that Arkio was written.

I think that he has a much better track record when he's not writing anything to do with the Blood Angels, like Flight of the Eisenstein, Faith and Fire and the short story, Liar's Due. I didn't get around to reading Nemesis.

I hope the problems that plagued his Blood Angels series don't carry over into Fear to Tread. That said, I heard the Blood Angel novella he wrote was conceptually interesting and enjoyable so, you know.
I am currently looking to shift a sizeable amount of Chaos Space Marine models, including Dark Vengeance Cultists/Chosen/Helbrute/Lord, Fantasy Chaos Knights, a Dark Apostle, Fantasy (Finecast) Chaos Lord, Warp Talons, Possessed and painted models with Forge World parts. Send me a message if you're interested!

red fury and black tide are a significant cut above the deus doubles. Heart of rage is also an excellent short story. Like i tend to say when his name comes up, james swallow has only grown during the writing of his blood angels novels. Even his doom eagle short in legends, a continuation/spinoff of black tide is excellent. And if people really have concerns about fear to tread, i advise heading over to the bolthole and asking him directly. He has been known to frequent the place on and off.

It wasn't his writing that I had an issue with, but I agree he has only improved in that regard. It was the more the plot of each book.

Bloodlines. A friend, who is normally less than satisfied with how James Swallow writes the Blood Angels, recommended it. I do have a copy of the Book of Blood, but I have yet to finish it all.

The deus doubles did have a less-than-satisfying over-arching plot, but I feel that the final combat scenes with Mephiston, Rafen and Arkio really redeem both books. The twist in Red Fury was just excellent imo

Would have to disagree, no one scene is enough to make up for the first 2 BA books ( i do realize this is a matter of opinion tho).

And while his latter BA work did get better they were all ultimately met ( from what i have seen on multiple polls and multiple threads on multiple forums) with negative feelings from BA fans.

I found funnily enough that they were popular with non BA players. Who found the rebellious, childlike characteristics given to all marines in the novels to be quite funny.

True, but the volume and manner of such complaints show the difference between internet rage and actual bad work.

Plus ADB showcases that when something is truly good, the praise will always outweigh the complaints.

BA swallow praise ( for the first 2 novels in particular) is somewhat lacking.

If this is a Audio book with the World Eaters, maybe it features Varren. (sp?) If so then we will get a chance to see what A D-B dose with one of the possible 8. Considering his comments here and other places on the subject it will be interesting to me to search for Easter Eggs that i can add to my wild speculation.

I really doubt that he is going to be writing about Varren, as that seems to be James Swallow's territory with Garro's band of heroes.

More like the audio will be about either Angron or Kharn and amazingly possibly both.

Dunno if we're listing books without a release date yet but there's Graham McNeill's Fulgrim novella with Lucius being the central character which is due out TBA.

That's one of four stories in the Primarchs anthology thing.

Since all the publications above are organized by month/year what do you think?
