Loyal to the Blood - Sylvanian Loyalist Empire

So for a long time, I've loved the Vampire Counts, I've also liked the Empire but never had an urge to play them, they just didn't really seem to interest me, until reading Vampire Wars recently, and also realizing that with the new Storm of Magic rules, i could very well make an Empire army loyal to the true throne(aka the vampires) and actually have vampires "leading" the army using pacts.

So i got to thinking more on this, and the more i thought, the more ideas came unbidden to me and finally i settled on making this army to completion, hopefully by somewhere around december but i dont know if thats going to happen that fast. i'm still debating whether i want to run generic vampire lords/heroes using the SoM pact or if it might be cooler(and definitely more thematic) to use Vlad or Mannfred von Carstein as the army's allied forces leader.

i'm still not sure on an armylist but i hope to get one finally knocked out somewhat soon since its kinda needed for a project like this.

I'll be going with the more "modern" colorscheme of black and red for my Sylvanians, instead of the traditional black and purple that they wore before vampiric rule came about, none of that shenanigans those Sylvanian Reclaimation Army troops wear(I'm looking at you Lord Dan )

I've not got any pictures yet, but i'm painted two swordsmen, with another 8 well on their way, i should be setting up a lightbox sometime this week and hopefully getting pictures up as soon as possible.

I'm always keen to see how projects like these come along. I did my own red/black "Army of Sylvania" a few years back before I ever considered doing a plog on here, and I'm currently working on a force from Stirland who are there to help overthrow the vampiric overlords of the rest of my army.

The unfortunate thing is, it appears that my troops from Sylvania actually enjoy being oppressed by the Vampires as my Stirland contingency have performed abysmally!

You two gentlemen forget, however, that smileys count as pictures (anybody who runs a plog on Warseer should be painfully aware of that fact). Seeing how that would still only make one (1) picture, I think we can all agree to drop this silly argument.

On topic: Cool idea No-One. SoM, Empire and VC - this log could get really popular. I at least am keeping a close eye on it.

unfortunately i work graveyard(haha, so fitting) shift at Walmart thursday-sunday but i'm doing my best to paint my first batch of swordsmen as quickly as possible, should(if all goes well) have my first 10 painted up very soon, and pictures of progress by monday at the latest, hopefully earlier than that if all goes well.

my first infantry blob will be a unit of 30 swordsmen with a freehand banner(big castle backlit by the moon, maybe a swarm of bats flying around, on one side, the other side will be a vampiric face snarling with blood dripping down the chin.) but over all the unit will be rather plain conversionwise besides gravestones and such on the bases, and a unit filler of my swordsmen taking down and slaying a warrior priest of sigmar with one holding a chalice to gather his blood for their lords, and another cutting his throat.

i'm planning on doing some huntsmen/archers skulking around and hiding behind some gravestones as well, seems like a good representation of their scouting stuff.

hopefully this coming friday(not tomorrow) once i get paid i will be buying the archers and begin the conversions to get them kneeling and skulking, as well as buying the beginnings of my vampire lord who will be standing large and brutal, bear torso and heavy, spikey armour on the arms and legs, carrying a large sword(or possibly axe, unsure yet but i think sword fits better) and in his other hand he'll have his fist punched into the chest of a Empire trooper/character(Lord Dan, i'm gonna need your purple recipe... no particular reason... )

P.S "Taking down a warrior priest of Sigmar..." How can you live with yourself man? You will be decapitating sisters of bloody Sigmar next! Then where will your evil intentions lead you? To the moot for some small bites taking down Halfling candle makers!

hopefully pictures will be forthcoming soon, i got the first swordsman finished and i'm halfway through with another 5, so should not be too long from now.

sidenote: Yak... now i gotta order some Sisters of Sigmar to be shredded and maimed in the Crypt Ghouls unit, my plans will be evil, aka unit-wide brutality for the win! I'm planning on almost all units in my army to have some mini-diorama action going on, most of them will be featuring Empire loyalists paying the piper for being fools and not loyal to the blood.

very WIP, the red is the only thing finished, though i may go over it with another round of highlights and washes to bring out the red some more/make it richer, the black is far from being close to finished in the photos but i finished it tonight and will be finishing the rest of him tonight, so most probably, finished pics of him will be up by tomorrow, or thursday at the latest

First of all I see you're well stocked in caffeine and alcohol, which always makes for interesting painting sessions. I also see you paint 10 inches from a LCD screen, drank a monster sometime recently, own what I believe is an HTC thunderbolt, and took these pictures around 10pm. I'm like Sherlock Holmes, I know.

I also see you've got a great solid red color there, which is good since you're going to be painting a lot of it! Keep it coming!

This will be an interesting log to follow, I've got some human sylvanians kicking around somewhere (from the previous vampire counts army book appendix army list, when you could have human levys [sp?]) though I did mine black and purple at the time, then did them black and red when the levy's were redone as zombified for the storm of chaos campaign. But anyway, enough waffling, hope to see more soon, keep up the good work. (you should build a painting station with a dedicated Jack Daniels and Jagermeister holder)

i've actually contemplating a special holder for them, though the jager isn't mine, its my girlfriend's, i dont much like the stuff, tastes too much like black licorice for me

he should be finished tonight, so pictures will be up tonight or tomorrow morning, then i'll be beginning the freehand on the banner bearer(one side with the quartered red and black, with Sylvania written on it, and the other side with a black castle silhouted by the moon, a swarm of bats flying and gravestones littering the ground. its gonna be a challenge since its my first freehand ever, i figure go big or go home!) as well as doing my musician for the swordsmen unit

Here you go folks, Sergeant Manchaus all finished(though the shield was missing a wash on the skull and the black was fixed so it didn't look so thick, post pictures, but otherwise, he's done):






again, lighting is not the best so i apologise for that, but its the best i can do at the moment. i'm beginning work on the standard bearer for the unit now, and into my first real foray into freehand painting, hopefully it turns out nicely.
