Pike & Shot! An Army of Nuln by DeathCat147

First off hello and thank you for stopping by and taking a look.

As the title above indicates this will be a log dedicated to my attempt at building a themed army from the citystate of Nuln. This will also mark my return to fantasy after ten or so years of playing 40k.

Having read as much Nuln background material as i could get my hands on, i have decided that i must include Pikeman in the force, even if i only use them as spearmen . Just a small snippet about their use of pike's and half pike's got the creative juices flowing

First off two W.I.P test Pikeman...

Yes im using greatsword bodies and heads! The greatswords are my favorite fantasy regiment kit and in my opinion look way better than most of the state trooper kit, and as such i intend on using it in some way or other for most of my troops. Sometime i hate my expensive taste's, but i feel that the over all look will be worth it in the end.

Next up is a W.I.P Gold Wizard.....

Thought i would move away from the traditional wizened wizard and go for a slightly younger look. Back story wise he only left the gold college in altdorf a few years ago to see the world, possibly having already traveled to some distant lands with traders. I also feel that he will probably have a bit of a roguish attitude and not shy away from adventure.

There is still some work to be done, mainly tidying up and what not.

So guys thanks for taking a look, and please feel free to leave C&C.

Wow! That gold wizard is inspired! Your sculpting is so smooth and sharp, really great work. The mask especially is a work of art! I think you are very right to move away from the standard 'wizard in a dress' fantasy archetype. He actually looks like he belongs on the battlefield. I'll be keeping up with this project for sure.

This looks like one to watch, I love the wizard so far and the pikes are looking great.

whilst it will be crazy expensive, I think using great swords as the basis of your troops will give you an amazing looking army.

Yup the wizard is incredibly well done, though I'm not sure his armor style really fits with the empire.

I felt that a more practical attire would suit him. Not that i dislike the archetypal robes, i just didnt feel they fitted this guy and his background. Im sure that at a later date some other wizards will pop out of the wood work .

Yep, my wallet will hate me . Ebay will help reduce the cost, as well as selling some of the many bits and bobs in my games room that i dont use.

And i hope it works out as well as it does in my head!

Those pikemen look great! They look like a couple of roguish veterans. Your sculpting is nice and clean, I especially like the mask you've made. I think your approach on the wizard is great, making him look young and more suited for the battlefield, but I think the armor on his torso needs an icon (a skull ) of some sort to make it look more like something an empire wizard would wear.

That mage is sauce of the michelin variety...

Looking forward to the rest, your bank manager isn't though if you are going to use goldswords as the bulk of your troops... Keep going!!

I agree the greatsword are a lovely kit and they are looking very nice as your pikemen.
Gold wizard looks amazing too, very smooth sculpting. Not too keen on the razor sharp offshoot on the kneepad, but otherwise it looks like a fantastic concept. Nice to see a wizard without a hunch.

Absolutely love what you are doing. The wizard is incredibly creative and inspired. Some of my favorite conversions are the empire wizards made without the wizard kit. You definitely pulled off the young rogue-ish adventurer look. Do you plan on making some more lore-themed wizards?

Using the greatsword bodies for core will definitely be worth it. Looking great so far. I will be watching your progress!

Seriously WOW for that Wizard, it's fantastic, my knowledge of recent models seems to be lacking, which miniatures have you used in his construction?

Thanks . There is the distinct possibility of other wizards joining him. Probably when i need a distraction from the rank and file troops .

I used the plastic Dark Eldar Raider pilot torso, left arm and bare head, along with the boat-hook/ spear from the kit as the basis of his staff. The crystal at the end of the staff is the tip of the lance from the Empire General kit trimmed down. Hope that helped TEDS

Those are going to be expensive pikemen units... I love the Gold Wizard. At first I didn't really catch what it was, but when I read it was a Gold Wizard I definitely got it. He looks a lot like those Warforged from D&D Eberron's campaign setting. Would've been awesome as such a model as well. Definitely looking forward seeing him paitned.
