Thanks! Well I don't like the glossy look either I'm just too scared of scratching off paint by accident. I've been told that matt varnish is a good idea to use after the gloss varnish, to try to remove the shiny effect. I just haven't tried it yet.

Yep it's all freehand. I don't know how to teach it tbh, other than thin down the paint, many small brush strokes, and relax your hand to make it steady. I think that's what I focus on when doing free hand.
    I'm glad you like it

Yes a matt varnish will remove the gloss effect. GW's Purity Seal is fine, or army painter anti-shine.

Just make sure you shake for a good 3 minutes before spraying to avoid potential misting.

Really enjoying your plog so far. That wyvern in particular is brilliant. I think you picked my favourite colour scheme for it.

Just going to through my 2 cents in and also recommend getting some matte varnish on those puppies. It'll do everything you need.

The skin tone on your Orcs is fantastic. What kind of recipe do you use?

    Re: Localicious Orcs & Goblins

Thank you for the tips guys! I'll try it out!
@Bravey. I think the recipe is described on one of the pages, but I think it goes
    Catachan green
    Cata + Camo green 5 - 3
    add 2 camo
    add 2 camo
    add 2 rotting flesh
    add 2 rotting
and then the final highlights with Rotting flesh alone.

On the savage orc to the right just above I also put a little badab black into the lowest areas of the skin

I'm currently working on some more savages, which I haven't got pics of yet unfortunately, with some different skin tones. Trying to make the savage orc regiment deviate a bit from each other.

Both look really good, but I prefer the darker as it has more contrast.

    Great painting btw!

    Time for a tiny update.
I've been spending a lot of time on my Dwarfs lately, thus the lack of activity in this thread. I will create a plog for my Dwarfs this afternoon.

I've finished the Savage Orc Bigstabba and the musician:

As you guys have suggested a few pages back, I've done some changes on the Bfsp Troll... Tried adding some more depth to the skin. I added some Devlan Mud in the deepest areas on his skin - I dno if it has made that much of a difference. Have a look:

I've also been digging deep in my old stuff and found these:
An old command group for the Orc boyz. It's nice to find stuff like this I think!

I'm afraid that's all for now
Have a nice day every one!

Firstly, your stuff is amazing. Secondly, err that's it!

As for the troll, I reckon the red needs a lighter colour highlight. It just looks too dark.

I guess you're right. I could add some orange to the red and brighten it up a bit. I think I will try that some day. Ty!

I can't believe I haven't commented on your work yet. Great work overall. I really like your skin recipe for the orcs. The goblins' skin is very good too.
The red-skinned black orcs is a nice change, though I'm not very fond of the contrast it makes with the green-skinned orcs, whereas I just love the green armour painting.

As a lot of people said, the troll seems to be rushed and kind of a let down compared to the rest of your work. Your latest work on it seems to have improved things a bit, but I think it still lacks some more edge highlightings.
The boar chariot is cool, and the conversion is well executed. I like the different colouring on your boarboyz's boars.
And finally, the savage orcs are just crazy, I really like the skin tone and the bone colouring. Great job !!

i can't wait to see more of your work

That big stabba looks amazing. Quality stuff.

To get rid of "extra shine" I use army painter's anti shine varnish. Does its job very good as far as I am concerned.

    Keep up the fantastic paintjobs!

Holy Waaagh! What a grea plog! Absolutely fantastic skintone on those orcs - especially love the way the Savage Orcs look. The Wyvern is top notch too. Great blending on the wings.. which is something I aspire to learn. And I like the base it's on just fine. The winter-theme looks good in contrast to the darker skin on the orcs. Oh.. and the eyes. I didn't know what to do with the eyes on mine so they are currently "blind" at the moment. How did you paint those!?? They are very stunning and sets off the model superbly.

Thanks for the heads up on this plog in your comment on mine. Very inspirational thank you!

    Re: Localicious Orcs & Goblins

@ Azhag: Thanks dude! Well the gob skin is a great deal simpler than the Orc skin, but I'm glad you like it
The troll I admit was a bit rushed .. I will try working on it some more some day. I'll try some more high lighting as you guys suggest!
Thank you for all the compliments means a lot!

@ Tonny. Thanks dude – ye it's a real great character .. to my surprise I actually didn't get sick of painting skin in that process ... (though it's remarkable I haven't painted a savage in a month or two now :P )

@ Bluey. Ye I actually try nowadays to make the brush strokes visible , I think it's pretty cool when I can make it look like their muscle fibers .. ish.

I use snow flock , and dead grass flock .. I'm not at home atm, and I can't remember the brand. Will check later.
When I base I just pva glue some sand on to the base. Let it dry. Then water down some Badab black .. and when it's still wet , I dot on some drops of Devlan mud .. On the big bases I usually dry brush some white on after its dryed up; else they get too dark.

@ Matrim. Thanks man!Glad you like em! I actually went to my local store and got some of that army painters mat varnish.. Just tried it a model I'd already glos varnished , and it worked pretty well. Think I will try it on a not glossed model and see if theres a difference... The labels says it still applies some protection, so I will trust in that

@ Eyrenthaal. Thank you very much mate!

@ Cedric. Thank you so much! Regarding the base on the wyv... I actually saw that my local store had got some of that water effect material when I went to get some mat varnish. I didn't buy it though, but I will , and I'll try fixing up that base
I dropped a little comment in your log regarding the eyes!

I haven't got anything Orcsish incoming any time soon, sadly :/ doing some work on the Dwarfs, (and a bit of 40k ,, shhhh!)
So it will prolly be a while before I put up some finished Orcs.. I am however considering the Wurzag character or the new Savage orc big boss... They seem awesome!

Have a nice evening fellow warseers!

    Cheers!

Really like this plog, your orc skin tones are gorgeous, the goblins are great too, the fur on the boars is simply breathtaking and the troll is good (though it is overshadowed by the other stuff, as I think it is more simple), on the whole though, this stuff is EPICCCCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
