Very cool stuff! And that from my own country as well!

And I know I'm quite late to the party, but I'd suggest wasteland-like basing for the army, Fallout 3 style. That should contrast nicely with the black of the army without being the complete opposite that snow would be.

    I'm painting some Eldar again!

    Thanks brothers!

@ Beppo: I liked using the old Abby parts, though I must admit it's probably the most well known conversion in current 40k. But then again.. nothing says Abaddon more than a topknot, a talon, a daemon sword and some ridiculous big trophy spikes!
@Radium: wasteland was exactly what I was thinking lately, for the reasons you describe.

I also approve. Great work. I especially like the position of the Talon.

Nice work on Abby, smooth shading, and solid colour choices for the sword and details.

Happy to see the raptor has arrived safely, keep up the good work dark brother.

Thank you all for the kind comments!

The coming weeks I'm focusing on getting a playable force painted. I *need* to do that before the new codex hits, because I know exactely what happens when new and shiny stuff comes out That means completing some obligatory choices:

    - two rhinos (yay)
    - three meltagunners (that have been sitting on my desk for aaages)
    - three plasmagunners (that likewise have collected a lot of dust)

Not the most exciting work, but you guys are great for keeping me on track!

I feel you. Get the older and boring stuff out of the way before they drop the new and exciting stuff. I'm almost done. Just gotta finish the bikes (but I'm short 1), 6 Iron Warriors, and a Demon Prince. That should hold until autumn, so it's worked out nicely.

That's the best Abaddon I've seen, fantastic conversion! (excellent taste in music, too... I remember when BT had a deal with GW and used 40k artwork, good times)

Re: BasetheRuins 2nd Ed Black Legion

Thanks again for the nice comments mates. You are a great bunch.

Some of you asked for a tutorial on how I do the yellow/orange. Being a lazy and easily distracted gamer, only now have I made one. I hope you like it!

I always work up from a nice bright red. In this case:
    1. One or two layers of Mephiston red
    2. Two thin layers of P3's Khador Base Red. But any Blood Red would do I think.

Then I give the red two, sometimes three thin coats of fiery orange. In this case P3's Khador Red Highlight.
The first layer almost covers all of the red, the second is heavier on the top and middle parts of the power cables.

Repeat this process, but now with a nice golden yellow. I used P3's Heartfire for this.
Again, layer the yellow more heavily on the top parts of the cables. I real life, the mini already looks fine after this stage.

Now comes the tricky part: the yellow highlights. I just mix in some white with the yellow and paint very fine lines along the edges of the cables.
Also, I highlight a couple of horizontal lines in the center of each power cable.

You need to be very careful and paint with a steady hand. Normally I only do this during daylight, because I still find I can botch this up And most of all not during nighttime painting sessions when I'm tired.

    Hope that helps guys.

What colors are you using for your black highlights?

Hey Draconis, my black highlights are very straightforward: just an edge highlight with Privateer Press Greatcoat Grey (though any blueish grey would do). Then add some white to the grey for the final highlight and you're set!

Re: BasetheRuins 2nd Ed Black Legion

Its update time! Six special weapon bearers: 3x plasma, 3x melta. With these guys finished, I've completed the troops part of my army. Thank god!
My troops now consist of a healthy four squads of 10 marines, each with an aspiring champion, an icon and two special weapons.

I finished these guys JUST in time before all the great new stuff comes out. Once released, it would have been impossible to resist staring on the new minis of the Dark Vengeance set.
Which would probably mean some more months in the bitz box for these guys.

Now my hands are free to move on to the cool stuff. Well, except for the rhinos that are still awaiting a paint job

These guys are again a mix of old and new, a combo that makes Chaos looking just a bit more diverse. Imho that is really a must considering the blandness of the current plastics.

EDIT: thanks to Menmnon for reminding me: this head is from the new Avatars of War Warriors of Apoc set. Great stuff!

Hope you like 'em and let the meat grinder grind on!

... and here is the current state of the army! It's turning into a respectable horde. Next up are probably transports and one or two Daemon Princes.

Thanks Memon, you've got a very pretty Warmaster going yourself
The head is from the new Avatars of War Warriors of Apoc set, forgot to mention that. It's great stuff and offers lots of variety to your bog standard Chaos marines.
