Great! Don't forget to show em to us Warseer types. And my thanks brother Horacus.
I'm off on a short holiday to the Belgian Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge hooo!), so no updates for a while. Shame real life sometimes gets in the way of our plans for galactic domination, but there you have it.

This project looks amazing. I can't wait to see some group army shots once a good portion of them is done!

The Heavy Bolter guy epitomises old school chaos for me- he looks dead hard. The dread looks wicked too. I've got one I'm building at the moment for an IW Obliterators force. Taking note of your conversions and clean painting.

Re: BasetheRuins 2nd Ed Black Legion

Back from vacation.. thanks for your comments brothers!

Totally running against the 2nd Ed. theme, I built some Black Legion marines with (I hope) a touch of Sons of Horus on them. Only need to touch up the loin cloths with some miliput and they're ready for some serious brushwork. Couldn't resist, hope you like 'em.

Some nice conversions as usual. I love the resin loincloths, GW or fan made?
I did notice the bolters on pics 1 and 3 are a bit wonky hands pointing forwards guns pointing down..

Thanks MD, and you're right about the third guys bolter.. a case of sloppy glueing that I'll correct asap. The first one is meant that way, holding his gun in a movie-mafia style like he's executing someone. But you have a point, he too does look a bit odd.. :-s
    He will be looked into!

Edit: by the way, the loincloths are from Maxmini.eu, just like the resin helmets. Really nice stuff.

Re: BasetheRuins 2nd Ed Black Legion

Apologies for the lack of updates brothers, but that's real life for ya. I especially blame the doings of the only real chaos warrior round this house, see last pic

But.. after a frantic weekend of painting, I've got 5 more troopers done. 10 to go and the troop complement of my army is done: 3 squads of 10 Black Legionaries. Note the little Sauron action on the banner, a mix of Sons of Horus and LotR.

    So enjoy!

How did you paint your bronze trim? I'm working on my own, and I can't seem to find a good way to do it!

Amazing! Such a classic look but with a modern twist, really enjoyed reading this log so far.

Nice to see the old Chaos Codex as well, although corrupting the little one so early seems a bit harsh!

    Keep it up

Re: BasetheRuins 2nd Ed Black Legion

    Thanks brothers!

    - Memnon: well, judging by the contents of his diapers, the little man has already fallen under the spell of father Nurgle..

    - Joe: my method for gold (by no means the only OR the best one) is as follows

    1. undercoat GW tin bitz
    2. Light coat of a warm gold color (I use Rulic Gold from Privateer Press)
    3. Devlan Mud wash
    4. Touch ups with GW Burnished Gold
    5. (Some) extreme highlights with Burnished Gold + Chainmail

It is a bit ponderous, but I wanted a strong gold to stand out because of all the black. Black Legion minis have a tendency to look very dull and black from a distance, almost like they've only been primed. So I try to make details like the gold rims really pop to counter that effect.

Awww...why'd I have to choose the whinny "but I don't want to be a soldier daddy!!!" Primarch...

Great looking stuff here BasetheRuin, I love the old-school Black Legion colour scheme, always said it looked better than the modern one.

    Great work Mr.Base :-).
The loincloth is very fitting and everything is well painted.
I really enjoy your orange highlighting, it makes the models pop.
Banner work is simple yet very effective which is a good thing.
It seems if people mix warhammer fantasy in their 40k, the chaos models always look a bit more..well..chaos-y But that could just be me.

    Keep it up,
