I have in fact assembled the cataphractii. I abandoned the custom ones once I actually went out and did the costs on it unfortunately...

In good news, I have a desk set up, so work will begin soon!

    *signs on*

The last book in the Soul Hunter series (Void Stalker I think) has really made this thread promising. Less movey, more paintey!

edit: I'm going through eBay looking at Termi legs, and the Justaerin look quite nice for Night Lords. They have these spikey areas on a quart of their leg (like one thigh, or one lower leg), which look quite usable for Night Lords imo without being extremely over the top.

In case anyone was wondering how Night Raptors looked with the lightning claws from the Warp Talons box?

Pretty awesome. (Excuse the rough edges on the joins while they cure)

I need to sort out heads, as the "bat winged" versions belong to sergeants and above only, being symbols of rank.

Give 'em some mk 4 heads, and only the sarge a bat-winged helmet! For the rest: they look AWESOMESAUCE

Thanks! I might wait until I can get the Terror Squad helmets, which would keep with the theme, throwing a couple of other variants in there as well. Basic MKIV, some MKVI...

I had some fun assembling things last night.

Meet Henrikys Rezil, Commander of the Night Lords Strike Cruiser "Signum Lamenti," Commanding Lieutenant of the Terran Claws, 2nd Chapter, 5th Company.

I've decided to use the Palatine Blade swords in a lot of cases because with the filigree removed, they actually look quite brutal - made for slicing and fine cuts... like skinning fallen enemies and whatnot. They also look quite aerodynamic and so fit on my Night Raptors well too. The head is from the Legion Praetors box, the body from the Legion Champion, and the right arm is from the MKIV command set.

Nice job Engel, I'm really liking them. Those raptors look ripping

My only hope is Forge World will at some point release new (old) Raptor heads, like the heads the previous release of metal raptors had. I hate these new ones... they look more like Chaos Assault marines instead of Raptors.

So how's the Legion coming along Engel? I'm interested to see what you've managed to accomplish with them so far. I'm planning to do a Truescale NL soon and inspiration is always welcome

Got to do some test models with my airbrush this coming weekend. Last weekend was devoted to yardwork and trying to get some work done with my IF Devastators.

Not sure if you play Necromunda at all, but this might peek your interest.

I don't (as yet) but that's a really, really neat situation you have going there. Imagine how much they could sell that power armour for to some Spryers.

As for using Outlanders CSM-based rules, I prefer (and have always preferred) my Night Lords in non-Chaos trappings.

Hmm, I've heard of those, but I never looked at them before (CSM rules). I agree, one of the cool things about Night Lords is that, in general, they want no part of Chaos. They're just power-armoured, steroid fed space bullies And despite how cool it would be, fielding anything more that even ONE Space Marine in Necromunda is, I think, serious overkill. Unless the idea is to butcher gangers, like I was planning to do with this scenario.

It's much the same way in Inquisitor, which I played briefly when everyone was excited about 54mm miniatures and didn't think about having to build 54mm terrain.

I may well try and kick up an Inq28 group once I've got a gaming table. I know few guys in my area have done some Deathwatch as well, but I think they stick to pen and paper.

Re: In Midnight Clad - A Night Lord's Log

Ah yes, I moved to the Ammobunker for my Inquisimunda (as I prefer it) fix. Yet to find some people willing to join me in a game tho, but that doesn't have to stop the modelling. I used this site for =][=munda rules and references. I doubt it's balanced, but it's a great start.

Re: In Midnight Clad - A Night Lord's Log

    It lives!

I spent tonight trying out various paint mixtures and Vallejo Air Colour sprays to try and find what combo to base my VIII Legion.

Sorry for the ack quality, but we're looking for colour here.

    • The one the left is deep purple. That's a black base coat with a few soft, thin airbrush coats of VAC Blue on him. If you're looking for Emperor's Children, you could do worse than hitting this with a couple of highlights and some gold!
    • The second one from the left is straight up VAC Deep Sea Blue on plastic. No primer. It took an extra coat to get him covered evenly. Very dark.
    • The second from the right is straight VAC Blue on plastic. Like the above, it took an extra pass.
    • The last one on the right... VAC Arctic Blue which is a metallic, but that's written fairly small on the bottle. He looks... Different. I don't really like it.

So - Thoughts? What should I run with? This will be my first big airbrush project.

I also accidentally base coated an Ultramarine thinking I could darken down the Army Paint Ultramarine Blue. You cannot. I'll probably paint him up just for fun.

I'd say one of the guys in the middle as a base colour but it's hard to say really, there are almost as many definitions on what's 'Midnight Blue" as there are Night Lord players so go with what you thinks is the best mix of looks and the amounts of coats you have to do brother

    Don't I know it.

Every time I see someone with some beautiful VIII Legion I always ask how they do the blue. Turns out some people just have a lot more patience than I do...
