    irregular volleys of marines

so on and off i paint an adeptus astartes every now and then, so here's a log i'm starting where i can put them up for the public to watch.

first off, a paint in progress imperial fist captain:

i'm still not sure what company he'll be leading, so any suggestions on what company colours he should have would be appreciated, as well as any ideas about what colours his gems should have.

    some shields of ultramar:

    first, my plastic chaplain:

    some assault marines:

and a normal tactical, who has lost his helmet in the thick of it:

the shields of ultramar is my own take on the ultrasmurfs, they're successors to the genesis chapter, who in turn was a second founding chapter using dark angels gene-seed.

The Imperial Fists Captain looks really good so far! A nice tone of yellow. Sadly the pics are pretty blurry... Did you use the macro function?

    Anyways, keep it up!

    Cheers,

thanks Monsterzonk, means a lot when it comes from a guy i've been a fan of for over a year!

sadly the macro was on, but i need more light, all i've got is a small desk lamp.

may be i should try taking the shoots a little further away...?

    anyway, some more stuff:

a paint in progress devastator sergeant:

and a paint in progress tactical sergeant:

i'm in the process of making some blood angels, some imperial fist for the captain to command, an executioner, and a minotaur sergeant.
pics should be up in a couple of days.

I like the Imperial Fist Captain, looks like he's just decaptiated someone. Is it converted from the master of recruits?

    sure is.

he was inspired by the captain in storm of iron, who fought with two power swords, as well as the sons of Dorns obsession about swords in general.

i'm thinking about using him as kor'sarro khan, or maybe pellas mir'san from IA 10. i just need to remember not to shoot with him, since he ain't carrying a gun of any kind.

    You're welcome!

A few tricks taking photos that I picked up so far are:
    a) Don't hold the camera in your hand, but rest it on a solid surface, maybe a tripod or something similar.
    b) Use the camera's timer function so you don't have to touch it and thus get shaky pics.
    c) Put the camera pretty far from your model and use the zoom to get close-ups.
    d) Natural daylight is best.
    e) No flash.

Maybe that helps. Looking forward to more!

    Cheers,
    Monsterzonk

    hopefully some better pics...

    imperial fist captain:

i'm considering repainting his helmet to show off his status, any suggestions on what colour? red, white, red with white stripe? or is that just the sergeant scheme?

    executioner tactical:

for my executioners i'll be going for a mix of the old and the new paint scheme.

    and a minotaur sergeant:

is he to dark? i'm considering layering some dwarf bronze on him, but is afraid to make him to bright. i hope the verdigris in the recesses can be seen in the pics. like the executioner i hope him to have a mix of the old and the new paint scheme, but with less red and yellow.

    Re: irregular volleys of marines

like my iron warrior thread, this thread needs an update:

current progress on the 'fist captain:

i'm using the guide to painting a red cloak from white dwarf 347 for his cloak.

    the blood angels:

a raven guard apothecary i've had lying for two years, i decided to start on:

    some more raven guard:

    Re: irregular volleys of marines

recently i bought the old terminator captain blister, and a box of grey knight terminators, assault terminators and normal terminators each.

the captains sword will be going to a corien sumatris count as eventually, so i gave the captain a nemesis falchion as a replacement and decided to paint him as a flesh tearer:

some wolf guard paint in progress:

i decided to make the captain with twin power swords more of a display model, and have this guy on the tabletop instead:

    still only basecoated.

the flesh tearers captain with some more highlights on his face, and some blue shading on the power sword:

    Re: irregular volleys of marines

need some help with these two, what heads should i give them? the first one is a raven guard captain in Mk.III armour with a storm shield and relic blade. he should obviously have a Mk.III helmet, but which one? the Chronus one, an iron warrior one, or from another source entirely?

the second one is destined to be a wolf lord, but same problem here, helmet or bare-headed?

i'm currently working on two blood angels dreadnoughts:

this one still needs some green stuff filling on all the crosses, since i want him to be a chaplain dreadnought and not a death company dread:
