    My hobby by Little Joe

Hello and welcome to my new general thread. In here I want to post all the things that I finish every now and then. I am mainly interested in fantasy or crazy games and am just taking the dive into a new and broader hobby. This is my hobby without any trademarks or copyrights so enjoy.

I just finished putting my stuff into a new hobby room and will give you a small tour in this first post. As you can see the Warhammer Fantasy hobby got me started and I have a few models. The boxes on the table contain the better part of a large vampire counts and an even larger dwarf army. To give you an idea of the content of a bitz box a picture of half of the VC one, I left the new models on the sprue to save on storage space.
I enjoy the background and since I quit watching TV I need some easy entertainment every now and then in the form of a fast novel. I also read a lot of other stuff, some of it fantasy related (the pre Tolkien old myths mostly).
This room is temporarily, so I thought of putting my current projects in the display case to keep them free of dust and readily available. I am trying to finish my goblin army and want to make a start on the VC core units soon. I am also working for the tales of terrain builders and skirmish game painters, for the first I am making some goblin related terrain and I am painting a Britanan army for the latter.
With my old fishing case and the two other cases I can actually carry my current goblin army around.

The last picture is of some terrain I cannot store here because it is to large, I will try to sell or even better trade it along with some of the finished vampire models since I want an other paint scheme for them and do not want to strip my work (besides I already bought the replacements).

Well that is the tour for now, I have some cleaning up to do and will paint a bit for the ToSGP if time permits.

Yep, I am set for the next few years. I just hope to work faster (again) then I am buying to work it off.
But I am sure there are a (many) few with more around here.

That is why I am beginning with the VC, I want to do them in a faster and dirtier scheme. I just need to clean and put those 220 core models together.
I am thinking of a scheme of browns and grays with some blueish and greenish OSL and a lot of blood and rust. So not the happy colours I did before.

Nice setup you have got there. Your gobbos look very interesting. If I ever decide to do that i'm gonna need a hobby house rather than a room

Storage is always a problem with me, and space limited. Fortunately so far I kept it all into (far away) boxes and now it is about to explode.

But access to all my rule books and not just a small selection is more important to me. If space get's really tight I can always store the novels in a box. The reason they are all there is to make a list of the ones read, so I do not buy doubles.

The only thing I really need to buy soon is a lot of magnetic basing stuff, I have been saving a bit for that every month for some time now and the order goes out next month. Magnetic basing is bliss when in need of space, no more models flying around in a box (they even stick if you put a metal sheet on the bottom of said box and some magnet strips under you movement trays).

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

Finally an update and some hobby time over the weekend.

Firtst some finished models: Britanan grenadiers, more pics in the ToSGP-thread.

Tonight I will build as many crypt ghouls as I can get done of the 50 (got a few just build); I just did a bit of green stuffing on a few mounted vampires (more to come). This is all part of the big plan to get my VC army build by the end of the year.

And to assemble nine Britanan troopers for this month’s tale of skirmish game painters. I will try to get as many painted this month as I can achieve.

Tomorrow I will try to finish this and over the weekend my entry for the tale of terrain builders needs to get done as well as preparing the next two entries.

That means I will put some pictures up late on Sunday to record progress.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

    Sorry technical difficulties.

I should not promise anything anyhow as my hobby life is fickle as hell. I haven’t done anything this weekend and probably won’t so just a post to show what I did get done last week.

I started with my Britanan and ran out of superglue, but before that I had the problem of what arms I would be able to switch around. This made my trooper building plan redundant and I started with the units that would give me spares. One trooper was already started, so I made kinda like a sergeant out of him (not a unit upgrade but every squad needs a leader). For the dragoons I kept the conversions in the “standing at ease”-style and am quite happy.
Just some sand and undercoating and I can get started for this month’s ToSGP.

The crypt ghouls didn’t really happen, I only got ten done and has to use some green stuff as well. But the bases are sanded and magnetized so that is a plus. I first used the arms from the last sprue for maximal diversity.

And orchenge is slowly but purposefully getting along. I painted the stakes and got a few layers of colours on other parts. As you can see in the close up it is still a lot of work. I will joker the ToTB again this month to get it properly done; besides there are still some unpainted parts for this piece of terrain.

I am really jealous of your hobby room, I wish I had space for one, I barely have space to paint at all!

Just as a point, it might be worth looking into using a photo hosting site like Photobucket to put your pictures on, not only does it mean you can have them bigger in the thread without people having to click on them but it helps Warseer keep costs down because when you upload pics to them it adds more to their bandwidth costs. Plus I don't know about anyone else but loading a Warseer attachment is really slow for me.

Anyway great work in here, I look forward to seeing more!

@ bluewolf74727: If you do, use fewer spikes. They hurt!

@ spikedog: Good point, *note to myself: pay for warseer*, it is just so much less management this way and I can get larger pics to show. However I do use it for the overhead of the Tale of Terrain Builders, so...
I will give it a go for the next post and see.

Said and done, I really enjoy Warseer and the monthly fee is fine with me so it is done. After some thought I came to the conclusion a few pictures with the text are within the amount of work I am willing to put into it an might give the skimmers something to look at as well.

So here is a picture of my WIP for the ToSGP for this month, it is a size comparison with a model most should know (the goblin will meet with some matt varnish soon). In the attachment you will find a larger picture with more detail of the dragoons.

    Is this the right size?

A progress update to show some of the detail I just finished for the orchenge terrain project. It is the power generating spider web.

I will post some more close ups of detail as I finish it over the weekend.

I just finished the terrain piece and am taking it outside tomorrow for some pictures. Here an update on the banners, no fancy freehands, but the best I am willing (able) to put into it. It was done by some Goblins after all.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

@ leonmallett: thanks for the nice comment. I believe in slowly improving my skills, the wolf head would be a copy of my first tryouts, the blue skull was to try some colours not mixed and I tried some mixing on the moon, and a lesser result from washes with the spider parts. One day I will get there but I am not in a hurry.

It should be useful as well as I intend to use it as either a temple of skulls (where you can obviously call to Gork or possibly Mork), altar to Gork and/or Mork, arcane ruins goblin style, a magic circle or just some fun house rules.

The picture quality of today's batch was not great so I will try it again tomorrow, but here is a preview of my terrain piece for this month in the tale of terrain builders, it took me quite a while but I think it looks just great.

    the front view

    the rear view

    Gork and/or Mork

The fighting pitch and the green zappa (a now waaaaagh! powered old one artefact with a web shrine to catch and transfer the green energy). For some audience interaction or just blasting away pesky orcs.

I was thinking of using some black wash to paint a blast area but do not feel confident enough about that for now so I left it out.

Thats a really great piece of terrain! Nicely done! I really like the "power generating spider" I wont ask how it works though

    Thanks.

Aaah, but it is the sneaky goblin shaman who channels the green tide through the web into the zappa who did it, but there is always a spider to blame...

The idea is that when a goblin shaman get's pushed around to much he will challenge the orc boss in question to stand before Gork and/or Mork in his dreams to claim the power of the waaaaagh! (he will get it in the back of his head). The tribes will get excited and there is a lot of power around to fuel this weapon, until it fails of course and a boss becomes really bossy.

But like I said I think I can find many uses for it.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

Back with something done, this time for the ToSGP:

These are Britanan dragoons, very nice models.

So what else have I been up to? I have been trying to get my hands on a lot of metal GW models I never bought but want to have. I was a lot on eBay, did a few trades and have about half of my wants now. I am still working on the rest. I have also been doing some shopping for Malifaux (Rasputina), Hell Dorado (Westerners), Relics (Marksmen) and a few Scibor bears for my dwarfs.
I did some rule reading for Malifaux, next up is Freebooter's Fate, and Relics Clash should be mentioned as well.
And I ordered a few things to magnetise an army: 22m of tape! That will just last for my VC, the rest of my goblins and a few orcs. That will keep me busy untill next summer at least, I take removing mould lines seriously.

For now it is back to working on my tales entries and preparing models, I will post an update on that soon.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

I did not like the size of the new mangler squig so I began sculpting my own. This is the WIP after the first week, and my first 28mm model as well.
It still needs a few scales and a manacle but has to set now.

This one is about the size of the giant squig with warboss (see attached picture) but has slightly thicker lower legs.

And boy oh boy am I happy with the result!

The battery of the camera died on me so I will make an update later on this evening with the finished one and some sketches I made (surprisingly easy).

Now I need to get my two tale entries for this month done on the double, because I stole the time for this project there.

I just saw that I forgot the manacle so I will take care of that right now, Also a pictire of a WIP of a pond I just made this evening while I should have been doing other projects.

The pond was made from a pdf, but is now 3D. It was created by Urgat, and you can find out more about it here. I will add some flowers and bushes tomorrow.

EDIT: Here are the sketches I promised, next up is "the fart".
