Here are some pictures of this months tales:

    Tale of Terrain Builders:

    Tale of Skirmish Games Painters:

As you can see I added some lines for LOS and magnetised the base. You can also see the hat is not just a blob of black. I think I am getting the hang of sack skin.

And here is a picture of the second giant squig armature:

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

I have been a good boy and did a lot of shopping, this caused some problems as I have an overflow of “want to do now”.

I decided to make a list of a few things I want to finish this year and a very tight time table to get it all done.

First of a zombie ogre WIP from Warploque Miniatures, I also got the forest troll (pretty tall) and the death kiwi. They are awaiting nice wround bases. This one will be part of a unit filler in a zombie unit and is my first new paint trial for this VC army. I want something toned down, dark, with lots of blood for colour and above all a quick and dirty paint scheme. This is basic colours and an ogre flesh wash for now (far from done).

Second in line here are some crew members for Rasputina. Here I want to try some glitz in the paint for a flashy effect. I have bought some very fine white glitz for this and if it works I am considering an even flashier show girls crew. Here I also tried a new basing technique: smashing up rocks.

Other projects get some attention every now and then but the main goal is getting a few things done this year:
    - zombie ogre
    - basic Rasputina crew
    - Britanan marksmen
    - Gobbo Mountain
    - a second pond
    - maybe a mangler squig
    - maybe two rock lobbers

Your Squig sculpt is pretty cool.
Good start on the Zombie Ogre, too. One of these days I'll have to throw some money at Warploque Miniatures as well.
I am looking forward to see how your glitz experiment turns out. An even flashier Show Girls crew sonds exciting.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

@EmperorNorton: Thanks, I want to make them look like snowmen with a slight blue touch. To make them stand out in the snow they need to shine. If this works I will surely get a showgirl crew next to make it a sparkling show.

    Here is a progress update:

The skin needs a few more layers, I would say about four. I think I can get a lot of that done tomorrow. I added a gryphon seppia wash, some thraka green in selected spots, a bit of yellow on the entrails and two layers of very thinned rotting flesh.
In the picture you can see the bottle of glitz (small reflecting flocks), that I found in a hobby store. I will mix them into the final layers of white to make them shine.
The wendigo will not be blue as such, but I want to try cold skin on him and maybe ty him into the crew this way. He will get greyish fur.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

@basher Thanks, I will post an update on them tomorrow.

I think the skin on the zombie ogre is done, actually i think I only need to do the metal and the squid. I usually quit when I can no longer see my stripey painting style and the colour should be about right. personally I would go for more skin but i was told my undead looked to alive so greyish it is.
Since I am starting all over again with my VC I might as well change a few things.

Actually I tried a home made wet palette for the first time with this ogre and quite like it. At the very least I can work longer with the same colour and it is still wet after two days.

That zombie ogre look suitably frightening. You're not having him over for Christmas, are you?

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

juicytomatoes: No but I might do some Gnoblars over Christmas because now I want to see this base fully done.

But first I will need to start with the snowmen now, but first an ogre update:

This is before varnishing the zombie ogre. It needs three (piraty) little Gnoblars now to complete the unit filler. That is why the base is a bit empty for now; it will get some floor crawling plants as well.

In the second picture I added some photo shopped close ups of some details you might rarely see due to angles in pictures. Most notably of them the mouth and that the intestines can also be seen from the back with some slabs of belly.

I tried the bloody gore technique for the first time and it is not easy but I think it does add to the model (especially the base!). I did not add any blood to the skull as it would obscure the model to much.

I wish you all a merry Christmas.

@HereBeDragons: Thanks, it is also the great sculpt from Warploque Miniatures. I started to clean some Gnoblars so work is ongoing with this project.

I continued with the raspy crew and after turning them blueish they will become nice and white again now.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

I update this thread not regularly enough, I usually forget when I posted on a Tale thread and time is sparse for a bit longer. But there are updates of course. First the things already shown:

My new terrain from last year in the Tale of terrain builders, in which I finished as a man. And in the corner the gaming table gathering dust...

My entry for last month in the Tale of Skirmish game painters. I still need to finish something for this month, but I think I will finish the tale succesfully.

The things I am working on for an hour every now and then. My chickens of death:

In the background is a jar of metal dwarfs I am cleaning/saving of a shamefull paintjob (mostly by me). I have about 65 done and a lot more to clean. from these I only plan to paint the Death Kiwi for now. But I will post pictures of every wyvern, once it is build.
I want to finish the ghouls I started a while ago first as well and think I will go for necrotic skin (the idea was derived from the black giant ghoul in the new army book), so blackish with reds, yellows and pinks thrown in. Dead but not quite yet. I will not post the research pictures I studied here, it is not nice to look at and I want the ghouls to be just like that. I am not sure how to do it yet, but tests will start soon.

Wow, you sure have a lot of wyverns... if you're in the market for another, here's a rather nice one:

A jar of dwarfs. Well, why not.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of those Wyverns and the conversions you have done.

Re: My hobby by Little Joe

Sorry my replies are so late:
@juicytomatoes: Yes, I have seen that one before. Maybe if wyverns become a monstrous infantry unit. First I had none, then I had a few bits and in the end it was a set of three. Well four if I can get my hands on a metal complete Azhag at a reasonable price.
@EmperorNorton: I am afraid not much was done. I swapped the savage orc for Wurrzag (old style). I had to take away a leg (reconstructed with another leg) to make him fit and he is a bit in an awkward position. Yet one would counter the movement of the wyvern by leaning in the opposite direction so it is OK. It still needs something to actually keep the savage orc shaman seated and a few big bones to savage the wyvern up a bit.

As you can see I have started on my tractor but is a slow process as I aim for a lot of detail. This weekend I had to clean the workspace first. Too many long term projects were clogging the desk and some things even got lost in the model pile. So with a fresh start I began to assemble my Vaettir for the next tale of skirmish game painters:

And the finished models in that tale:

I have been building a lot of terrain lately, well starting pieces at least. I finished another pond for the new Tale of Terrain Builders (no picture yet). In the works are a fungal glade, a goblin wizzard tower and a Vaettir rock. I still call it a rock, because even I do not know what it will be in the end. Here is a picture of how it looks now and some close ups of the whirlwindy thing:

It is basically a floating rock with an inner chamber. Well this one is not actally floating because it has a few stairs and thus needs to be able to go up and down. I made lots of patterns in the rock and wo ancestral faces at the sides of the entrance. It will get a lot of bushes hanging on, but the purpose of this terrain is still open. I am enjoying a free build. There was none before and so there is nothing it should look like, which is nice.

For more pictures (and of more WIP terrain) follow this link.

EDIT: I just noticed I havent mentioned the tractor here before. It is something obviously not fantasy so a bit out of my way. It is for the Quar by Zombiesmith, an anteater race stuck in a WW1 tech level war. I have wanted to try myself at plasticard scratch building for a while so this is it. Some models were ordered as well and the first few have arrived (more on the way). I like the style a lot and will just collect a faction for fun for now.

I didn't notice your Plog until just now, but may I say; awesome work on the zombie ogre!

What did you use for the phlegm?

    @juicytomatoes: thanks.
@korinth: A truly great model by Warploque miniatures. I found the tutorial on chest of colors, I always save what I use as a PDF (see attachment). It got used as well on my pond (picture comming soon), because I liked the gory grass effect where something was dragged through.
