More early marks of Power Armour and possible Heresy suppliment

I was having a quiet chat with someone connected to GW (don't want to say who for fear of trouble...) who was talking about Forgeworld and the older marks of power armour.

They mentioned two things of note. Firstly, due to the succes of the older marks of power armour, their are further expansions to this range in the works. No details of what.

Secondly, that now with the Contemptor out, their was sufficient range already, and with the planned expansions, to begin work on a Heresy supliment.

That was all the details I got, and both of these things seemed to be 'on the table' rather than perhaps in pre-production, I'm not sure. Figured I'd share!

IF a heresy expansion comes out, with specific rules for pre heresy, then I hope they make the Primarchs!

Well, they could release Thunder Armour, I suppose, and the older Terminator Armour. I doubt they'd tap into the, seemingly, Legion specific variants that apparently exist - at least according to the Horus Heresy artbooks.
I am currently looking to shift a sizeable amount of Chaos Space Marine models, including Dark Vengeance Cultists/Chosen/Helbrute/Lord, Fantasy Chaos Knights, a Dark Apostle, Fantasy (Finecast) Chaos Lord, Warp Talons, Possessed and painted models with Forge World parts. Send me a message if you're interested!

As much as I want this to be true, I'm pretty sure this rumour's been floating round before but has been squashed (occassionally by FW emails) each time

    Still, I hope it's true!

The guys from FW have actually stated several times that they would love to do it and will eventually but that it would be a major undertaking therefore requiring a lot of time and resources. That said, I might be wrong but I don't think anyone saw the badab war coming before the first teaser in their newsletter a few weeks before it was officially announced... HH might have already been in the pipes without anyone knowing... it's probably wishful thinking but a surprise from FW isn't that unlikely... is it?

if anything i think its extremely likely the horus heresy will be covered .
think of the badab war as a test run for forgeworld , they cant release something as huge as the horus heresy without first seeing if there is a market for it
releasing the armour marks under the pretense of the badab war is an excellent move by forgeworld to gauge the market as it were

now that its plainly obvious the interest is there , i think its highly likely we'll see more , not less of the pre heresy stuff coming to light

Re: More early marks of Power Armour and possible Heresy suppliment

I just asked FW on Facebook 2 days ago or so whether they do pre-heresy shoulderpads to fit the old mark armour and they said that while it's an idea that's worth getting into, there's nothing serious pre-heresy planned.

    alas...

"We aren't working on any pre-Heresy projects at the moment, although it is obviously an area of the background that we'd love to cover at some stage. All the variant-pattern Space Marine models we've released recently are used in the 41st Millennium, albeit in perhaps limited numbers..."

I was under the impression the foreseeable future for FW was going to involve mostly xenos items?

So do I. There seemed to be some interest for more Assault Marine packs, like Mk IV and Mk VIII.

Its obviously not aimed at 'Tau players'....

Besides, who else has had 10 Structure point flyer love from Forgeworld...
Dont just moan because it is someone elses turn to get something, even if it is Marines.

The more background the better in my opinion, and if they do some cool unique stuff I for one will enjoy seeing what else they do. the Horus Heresy era is very evocative and will be a very cool offshoot to standard 40k.

I'd love to see a MK VIII set and also a set of Relic/Master-Crafted armour with 'knight'-style helmets and loads of purity seals etc.

I suspect (Based on a few conversations) they'll do "The Great Crusade" as the first expansion after 6th Ed. The success of the early Mk armours from FW makes them viable for GW proper to release. Probably in plastic and possibly as a mixed sprue. (Just because they like being awkward LOL)

This would make sense, unlike the Thunder armour that people seem to want (I mean, it's got that cool ultra-retro vibe, but it's about as practical for a non-Scout Marine in the 40K setting as a butter knife would be in a fight against a Carnifex - and who'd let a novice get their hands on a relic dating back to the founding of the Imperium?). Errant armour is supposed to be in the pipeline, according to the FW open day reports, so here's hoping it'll be dropping soon.

Isn't there a whole Chapter like that already?

Seriously, just mix GK parts with normal Marines, or order some extra Company Champion parts from a bitz store. It'd be cool to see artificer armour with inscriptions and carved patterns/images on the plates, but I'm not such a fan of the knightly look beyond GKs.

The problem with this is that it would require a whole new set of alien armies to be produced, wouldn't it? I mean, Tau wouldn't be there, neither would Necrons or Tyranids would they (Necrons asleep, Tyranids still outside the galaxy). The Eldar would have been about, and presumably clashed with the Imperium at some stage. But the majority of the fighting would have been against alien races that no longer exist, or human colonies that wanted to keep independence. And those would mostly require a completely new army list and models, designed from scratch. That's a huge undertaking. And what sort of take-up is there likely to be for a race which was probably quite small 10,000 years ago and was then wiped out.

The Heresy on the other hand is far more feasible - many of the models currently exist, the army lists would be variants of the well-established SM template. And the models mostly double-up as 41st milennium marines/traitors as well, so are more viable. Just seems by far the more likely option to me.

The Red Scorpion Honour Guard unit looked fantastic, would be great if FW could do another unit like that

FW have been quite open in their intention to a Horus Heresy book at some point in time but the impression I got from the seminar video was that it was a long way off and not beyond the 'wouldn't it be cool' stage. Not heard any kind of talk of a Great Crusade supplement.

You have GOT to be kidding... If there was any concept of "waiting your turn" in the GW or FW release schedule I think we can all agree that SM have had all their turns for the next century of releases well in advance. I'm not in any sense surprised by this because FW seems to have lost any sense of anyone other than SM and a small colony of IG existing in the 40K universe at all, but you can't seriously turn to a Xeno player lamenting his lack of shineys and say "pipe down its our turn".

I love the 40K background, but I'd love to know a little more than the usual reconstituted codex-tripe about the xeno armies, and I think a lot of other players would as well
