I know the internet said it was, but these sat there from the initial release, through the 'finding' of additional copies in the US warehouse and into the next year. One sold after a couple months because people actually wanted to play the game on game nights, I finally picked up one sometime between the Tyranid and BA codex releases, as I figured they'd be useful for both armies (and had a mostly painted nid army), and the remaining copy sat on the shelves for at least another 6 months. I relocated over a year ago, but for all I know, they may still have it.

Read the rules, or the owl will eat you.
My local store at the time was owned by a "gentleman" who was the model of the stereotype for a certain ethnic group (not really trying to be mean, the group was always shocked how well he fit himself into that mould).
Space Hulk came in, he instantly put a 40% mark-up on it from MSRP as he knew they were out online. They sat there for months because he refused to drop it down to a sensible price (that and most of us who wanted one were sure to pre-order online).
The store was a haven of rarities once upon a time, but if you wanted something there that was once limited and/or currently OOP, you had to pay out the nose to get him to part with it.
If it is similar to SpaceHulk then all the material from the expansions (or the equivalent rules in a new system) should be in the one box. If they release all the required ships for all the races, then I would really consider this - if they release it either as a total "all in one" box or over the course of a couple of months then great - if it is 10mm scale they might be able to get all races ship in the main box. Hopefully the odd choice of scale will not reduce the detail of the ship too much.

This is a bit unfair. It has nothing to do with predicted sales of models. Or they would have made Man-O-Space Marines and had done.
It couldn't possibly be that someone loved boats and Naval combat (may be they loved Man o war back in it day) and fancied writing a set of rules?
It couldn't be that someone loved boats and really fancied making a few ... just 'cos they would be great models to build and paint and look great on the table in a game.
It couldn't be they went for this scale just because it allowed them to sculpt bigger and cooler models?
It couldn't be they just fancied doing another big box game just like the used to in the good old days.
No? It has to be because they want to screw us over?![]()

Sadly the advent of eBay and more and more collector's editions of games has served to make people assume anything remotely limited is valuable.
It's like the latest limited Magic the Gathering set: Freely available for $35 in the US, can't be found in the UK for less than £80, despite it's £25 RRP. If a deck is released with rare cards in it, most MTG sales sites put it on for about £35, despite the usual £19.99 RRP.
Shops scalp as much as the next man.
They kicked all these games to the curb over a decade ago because they weren't selling enough models. Man o war, necromunda, space hulk quest, mordheim. They don't run a profit on games that you can play with a dozen models. During their big overhaul the entire crop of games save for the massed army games like fantasy and 40k were dropped like a stone. The lucky ones got picked up by specialist for some no budget support.
Apparently they figured they can drag them back up for the nostalgia profit. Space hulk went ok, I guess now figure they can rewrite the game first to make sure it requires a larger investment.
But that is the beauty of these one off releases. Imagine if they make a Mordheim with rules for all the warbands and a big box full of plastic terrain and a couple of plastic warbands. People can use the existing army plastic kits to make thir own warbands and GW doesn't have the hassle of having to support a low-selling game system over a long period of time. The 'ooh new shinies' crowd will buy it, all the mordheim fans will buy it, and GW gets some ongoing sales. Ditto for Warhammer Quest to a smaller degree.

I think that space hulk wasn't handled fairly at all..... I really wanted a copy and they told me that they were letting people who bought WD into the store 30 minutes before official opening time, I bought a copy and got there for 9:30 on the saturday morning, picked up my copy and got in line, there was one guy who bought ten copies and needed two staff members to help him carry them to his car....
out of the thirty or so people in the line, I was the ONLY one who bought a single copy.... there weren't many left by 10am when the kids got to come in..... I hope this time they limit the number of copies someone can buy in the interest of fairness to customers.....
having said that, this is the first GW release since space hulk that has gotten me truly excited so I'll be there to get my copy!

If they can limit Finecast purchases to no more than 5 per customer, they can certainly limit a box-game to 5 or less per customer.
Space Hulk seemed to sell out quickly enough - almost as fast as Magic Cards and limited "goodies" like Vortex templates and colorful dice in a bag.
LE Models are the best, though - Harry the Hammer sold out so fast that I didn't get one until last year on eBay (for slightly less than the MSRP to boot) but Grombrindal w/ Gotrek and Bugman was sitting in the store for ages.
Here's a question, though - are we really not going to know anything until a week before it drops? I know the White Dwarf will cover it, but that doesn't appear until a week before either, does it? That's going to be a hell of a mess if we don't even properly know what it is or what price point to expect. I'm sort of hoping they cover it on the website a bit before preorders go up so that we can check it out without having to rush.
*the above is assuming the product is limited*
If that is all there is in this months WD then there will not be very much notice at all if we only hear about it through WD.
However, I will be amazed if we don't get a little look at it at Gamesday UK ... seeing how close to release it is ... and how they like to have stuff like this to show us.
I don't imagine it will be on sale.

Got my WD. All it says about this game, is the quite cool wanted poster that has been mentioned before.
Oh Pyrovore, you're like the Eeyore of 40K
So if the ships are 10mm scale - do they have crew figures?
Tiny (non-specific scale) ships like the old MOW figures looked fine without crew, not so sure a 10mm ship would work so well just empty. But painting all those little guys would be kind of a PITA. I'm very interested in seeing what the ships look like.

Demand for it seemed to be pretty random. I accidentally ended up with a second copy (failed order cancellation) and people online were pretty much bidding up against each other despite the fact that I just wanted to get rid of it for store price. (did end up selling it to the first guy to offer store price)
At the same time my local store had a stack of ten boxes for weeks after the launch. I think they eventually sold them online.
