But since I know its going to look less good than that 3D model, I am not enthused. A kit like Samurai does not really work to their strengths, IMO.

They seem to suck less than their previous models, but they're still not something I'm looking to buy.
The 3D renders look great, and if I thought that's what the finished products would look like then I might be more interested. If I were to get any samurai for gaming purposes, though, then I'd most likely be doing skirmish gaming with them and I wouldn't want to blow money on mediocre models. Most of WGF's stuff is decent enough to act as unit fillers and for big army building purposes (although the Vikings and Saxons are actually pretty good on their own), but with something as detailed and individualistic as samurai they just don't seem like the "go-to" company for that range.
I think it's cool that someone's doing Samurai in plastic, though, and maybe this will push one of the big British manufacturers to put out their own set (not holding my breath, though).
Realistically, though, I'm just not all that interested in collecting samurai minis. There are some nice samurai minis out there already, and most of them are pretty reasonably priced. So in that context, cheaper samurai with poorer detail really doesn't appeal to me any moreso than the current options do.
Dude looks pretty sparsely armored, especially if this is supposed to be a Sengoku era Samurai (he's wearing sparse lace armor), lacking Haidate (tassets or cuisses in European armor speak). His lower torso looks more suitable for Ashigaru or perhaps low ranking Samurai...
In general I prefer my samurai to not be walking around with drawn swords. The katana is in part what made them famous, but on the actual battlefield, like the arming swords of 15th C knights and MAA, it was decidedly a secondary weapon (they were not light sabers, and could be stopped by a good suit of armor); I would much prefer to see Yari, Naginata, and Yumi instead. Now the reason I say this is because the pose of the figure will mean we'll probably get one or two in the box. Not a big deal I suppose but I always feel those poses are wasted.
Me personally I am very interested in Samurai, and have spent quite a bit of time collecting resources (lace coloring, and its significance, is something I've nailed down the past couple of years). One of these days I'm going to pull the trigger big time and do a large army or two (I already have the very good TAG early Samurai figures, and the Kingsford later Samurai). I'm not sure if these will be to my standard...

I got my 40 Persians (sprue #041) It's two minies on each, with weapons, four heads (new/better style of neck). A choice of an Immortal and a regular Persian "grunt/ground pounder". There's a bow and arrows in a quiver, a bow in hand, there's an ax, a sword, a spear, two shields.
VERY, VERY little flash, VERY good details. ONE bad feature....One left arm/hand is too short. That will likely not show/be visible holding the Immortal's shield.
IF, that is if, the details "in your hand" look as good as the Simurai rendering they will be worth using at the least as fillers behind those higher priced metal versions.
My opponents and I use 2-6 hundred minies in our 28mm armies. We do have a few "super detailed' minies in our rosters.
To each his(her) own. There are many facets to the hobby of wargaming. Many levels of quality, sizes and materials used to make minies.
Wargames Factory minies are vastly improved compared to the old ways and company.
Oh, those 2 to a sprue Persians are .75 cents(USD) per sprueI bought 20 sprues and with shipping by US Postal Service paid a total of $20.45(USD)
Sorry I do not know how much overseas/international shipping costs.
The sale ends with August 31. It's more than just the Persians...My army is started.
I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?
To be fair I wanted a huge Germanic Army to play with some friends in my area but the cheapest way I could see of doing it was through Wargames. Unfortunately due to the scandal, the delayed shipping and everything else I won't touch them now.
I don't see anything particually nice about these Samurai and the models have bee roasted by people in the comments for being historically wrong apparently.
Looks pretty basic, might be good when its finished but didn't the much trumpted Great Coat Guard from these guys takes years to actually get released?
This may be part of the "scandal", I don't know.
One thing though, Perry Miniatures said they looked at plastic samurai and there was a major issue with the armour details when made in plastic....so I would like to see what these guys do.

They have now released a set of mounted samurai. On a superficial examination, the horses seem better than their previous mounts. I am interested to see if the fit and finish issues still persist with their kits.

... but I am sceptical.

Their sprues GMH.
I'm on board for some samurai. In fact, I think I'll combine the samurai and the Shock Troops to make Samurai Vader.
I wonder if the katana and other fiddly thin bits will cast well in plastic.
