SuperDans Empire/Nordlanders, The Grand Army of Gustav Von Richter

Though i'd edit bits of my plog to give it a bit more pizzazz, anyway to redo my introduction, Took me a long time to decide on what fantasy army to do swtiching to bretonnians and dwarfs at least twice before i settled on Empire, i love the models i love the backgroung and love the back stabbing, the general idea behind this army is that it is led by a Nordland noble (Gustav Von Richter) who generally feels he should be the elector of Nordland. I am currently working on painting up about 2000 points for a doubles tournament in a month or so which is why the army is rather standard looking and lacking in conversions.

In terms of what i have to work with so far we have 48 halberdiers (2 units of 24) 24 swords men, 30 hand gunners, 30 great swords 20 knights , a setamtank and some artillery and a hand full of characters, this army is currently around 2500 to 3k points wise and i will be expanding it with other extra bits in the months to come so this will likely become an on going log

Anyway, i only started painting a few weeks back but my progress is going quite fast, Some of the stuff is nearly finished but certain details like shields etc havn't been finished mainly because i am indecisive about colours. Anyway with out further adieu time for some photos

Current status of my swordsmen about 90% finished

Couple of pics of my greatswords

    and my Steam tank

(sorry for quaility of some of the pics)

Anyway I'd love to hear peoples thoughts, or any tips you might have for when i paint the other units, anyway hope you enjoy and thanks a lot

Now then what do we have here, A Nordland log eh fantantabadozy!!!

This looks great so far mate, I think the state troopers with their red featers look cool are you gonna keep with the red or incorporate different coloured feathers? Personally I like the red and you can mix it up by doing some white with red tips and vice versa.

Your painting is loverly the blue on your finished general is gorgeous whats the recipe?

Really looking forward to seeing more

    For the Empire!!!!

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Thank you very much guys, The blue on the general was a bit of a funny one cause i did it at the same time as the yellow, but primarily its a base of Regal blue, (which accidentally got covered in sepia wash) then enchanted and regal mix cover except in recesses, then just a heavy enchanted blue high light covering most of the blue, then a final enchanted mixed with a small amount of white on the tips. I've just taken some pics of the whole army and units to paint which I'll try and post up later.

With regards to the feathers i do like the red actually it gives some contrast to the model, i had done a few white ones in the swords men and a blue, but i may just do them all red gives a nice contrast to the yellow and i think adds warmth to the model on a snow base (hopefully you don't think im a arty snob xD)

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Thought i'd be proactive and show what I actually have to paint, I'm hoping over next few months to buy a couple of units of outriders/pistoleers possibly a big unit of 50 spears and if i am feeling very affluent a Landship but we shall see, what i have here is about 2500 points Looking at getting maybe a couple more cannons or mortars soon too.

Anyway my army as it stands (sorry about poor pic quality the lighting in my room is awful) Thought I'd take a photo on the nice (cheap) gaming board me and my friend made at the start of the summer

Unit 1 of Halberdiers, i hate ranking these guys up i need to number them or something

Unit 2 Of Halberdiers, this is probably my only conversion in here with the standard bearer and drunk/drinking champion

I also have 2 units of knights which if i am honest i don't really like using that much but i thought i'd post them anyway, i'm using the captain on horse as the unit champion in the one unit rather than as a captain

I am currently starting to paint my wizard who you can't really see in any of the photos but hopefully will post progress of him over next few days, also hoping to have the swords men 100% finished tonight

Nice plog you have here! It seems like you have started quite a nice army... The blue and yellow works really well and the banner of the Sowrdsmen (the part I can see) looks very nice!

The Griffon's head is just awesome! How did you get it so detailed?

Did you use your General in battle yet? How does he work? A General on Griffon is something I have been wanting to try for myself...

Great job on the painting. Pictures look very good... Like the 30-strong greatswords unit, but then again I like all greatswords... interesting to see this army fully finished at the end of the day!

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Thanks it's my first plog, I'll have to sort out some close ups of the banner when its finished i have to admit the design is pinched of a Nordland army i saw on here before. Banners is the one thing I am struggling to work out what do design wise, going to redo the great swords banner completely i think.

With regards to the Griffon, i only finished making/painting him a couple of days ago so not had a chance to use him. i would like to, but nearly 400 points for 1 guy i am not so sure about lol, i will let you know though.

The model itself was really enjoyable to paint to be honest, its a really simple way to do feathers the lighter ones are just denheb stone base in the areas i wanted so sort of meeting in the middle and the others were scorched brown, then washed devlin mud and when dry, just dry brushing denheb and then white. the head itself just had some light feathering with an old brush on the top of the head with denheb, the eyes were surprisingly simple as well just codex grey line highlight around the edge in a u shape, and then a thin white line at the bottom of that u and a dot in the top. hopefully thats detailed enough, if you want anything more specific or a more detailed explanation just ask

Yeah i can't wait to get the great swords finished, nothing like a great big unit of great weapon wielding men to put the fright into people, super nice models as well i like the plastics. I'll keep you posted

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Best trick to get a fully painted army is to go through one unit at a time. So finish the greatswords first and then go and paint some halberdiers. When you continue from there you can paint more halberdier troops from the other unit - finishing with the command group - so that you can play with a fully painted horde in earlier games! Then tackle some of the smaller support units (with guns!)

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Right my swordsmen are completely finished now, the eagle eyed among you will notice only 5 on the back rank, the unit will in future either have a character in or act as detachments anyway yeah hope you like get the idea for what some of the other stuff will look like. This unit had a lot of test idea for painting the rest of my army so will probably be the worst painted unit

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Thought I'd stick some close ups, the standard I'm still not sure is right but the paint looks way to thick as I've changed the colours about 3 times now so will have to do lol.

    enjoy

some great swords to come tomorrow

Re: My Nordland Doubles Painting Project

Thought I'd do a proper sort of update with army lists and all sorts of fancy things

I have now come up with a 2500 point list so i thought i'd stick it up and show progress etc Green will be finished and Yellow is partially finished. Anywho here we go the list 2500 points and the equipment i've given my heroes and lords is subject to change (i havn't listed full equipment cause it would probably bore you)

    Lords
    Arch Lector on barded warhorse
    Arch Lector on foot
    Heroes
    Warrior Priest
    Warrior Priest
    Level 2 Battle Wizard
    Captain BSB
    Core
23 swordsmen full command-10 Handgunner Detachment
23 halberdiers full command-10 Handgunner Detachment
23 halberdiers full command-10 Handgunner Detachment
    9 knights full command
    10 knights full command
    Special
    Great Cannon
    Mortar
    28 Great Swords full command
    Rare
    Steam tank

Like to know what people think, I've used the list a couple of times before has worked quite well the mass of warrior priests gives me +6 dispell dice which makes it very difficult for people to get spells off against me.

I also thought I'd mention my mate who i am doubling up with He's doing an ogres army with the new book out and all with a frosty theme, thought i'd show a pic

Anywho hopefully some greatswords pics later

Done a couple of Great swords today, but thought I'd start a new free hand banner for the great swords anyway not much but hopefully you can get the idea, I'll probably do the back ground blue rather than black i think

Does anyone have any tips on doing lettering? I always try and it usually looks dissapointing or not right style wise, i need to do some lettering on my steam tank and probably the other banners

Looking good so far. Your friend's ogre also looks great, nice idea with the blue skin.

Looking really good, the blues and yellows are really vibrant. Would like to see more of the Ogres too. I also feel your Griffon gets extra Imperial points as the black on it's beak makes it appear to be sporting a gentlemanly moustache.
