Hello, all and welcome to my second Plog. The first one didn’t go so well – mainly, because I realised that hundreds of Skaven slaves don’t really make for a diverse and varied blog to keep people interested, and nor do they make for a diverse and varied painting schedule. So instead of hundreds and hundreds of posts of near identical purple rats, I decided to give up and have a) a semi-painted skaven army and b) a life.
Also, last year, I signed up to the Tale of Fantasy Painters, in the Men’s Category for Warriors of Chaos. Unfortunately, due to a combination of moving house and a new job, I dropped out of the Tale pretty quickly. At least, that was my excuse.
In reality, I think that the problem was that I was trying to accomplish too much in too short a space of time. I had very grandiose ideas of what I wanted to accomplish with the army, and I didn’t have any of the models, or tools, or time to actually get into it.
Anyway, due to some recent good fortune on e-bay, a slight salary increase and some serious upgrading of my hobby work-station I have decided to re-enter the ToFP for 2011-12 with the same army, but with some more realistic ambitions.
Unfortunately, for my first post I am only going to rehash old ground (but at least it is a taster of things to come!). Below are some pictures of my entries for the first two months of ToFP last year. Part of the reason I dropped out last year was the fact I was trying to get through the bulk of my core in the first two months – which at 5 points a model meant 40 Marauders a month!
This was totally unachievable (for me – I am a solicitor which means irregular hours and mild alcoholism to get over ****** clients. Alcohol and painting miniatures don’t go very well together unfortunately, although they do go together better than alcohol and removing flash with a hobby knife, or lots of alcohol and trying to have sex with your very sober and possibly menstruating girlfriend) so I lost heart and gave up.
So below are the Marauders I did manage to paint. The theme of the army is Malal. For those who don’t know Malal is one of the “anti-Chaos” Chaos gods – or more famously known as the Chaos God of (alleged) Copyright Infringement (the rights to the Malal god, and his best known Champion Kaleb Daark, were fiercely contested by the original author of the background).
However, I very much like the idea of Chaos destroying Chaos and it has given me some really good ideas for conversions… but more of that later. I have typed up some mini-background for the army somewhere. I'm sure you could find it with a little search, but I'll probably infiltrate it later in the Plog.
(Also, is there a different abbreviation to "Plog" - it makes me think of POGs, which of themselves remind me of school. Unfortunately, I went to a boys-only public school in the English countryside, and as I was the kid who collected small figurines and wasn't really into mutual buggery they were very, very dark times for me. On the other hand, "project" is a really good Scrabble word and does make me think about Elecution lessons - which as our vocal-coach was one of only three females in the boys-only school (along with the cook (too old) and the nurse (too antiscepticy) - were a very, very good time for me.)
Anyway - this project log is supposed to be about photographs rather than trying to get cheap psycho-therapy, so let's get some JPEGs up.
Here are some lovely, 5th Ed Maurauders. Note particularly, the way that GW has not yet realised that the skull to figurine ratio must be at least 8:1. Note also, the lovely black and white division of the armour in the style of Malal. Please try not to notice the awful, awful photographs. I am working on this. However, the pictures are now a year old. Imagine it is sepia.
Here are the same Marauders from a slightly different angle. This is to fill space because it is my first post and I feel one photograph probably isn't enough.
Finally, here is a close-up of the Command Group. This is a 5th Ed. Chaos Exalted Champion. Although, he has got a lot more skulls than anyone else he simply doesn't have enought in 8th Ed. to justify such a position in my Army so he has been downgraded to Unit Champion. That's hard-lines, but the Will of Chaos is Fickle. (Also, I don't believe those skulls are real. They are far too small. Unless they are children's skulls, but that's a bit sick).
Well, that's it for now. I hope you are well (I am fine) and you like my pictures.
