I love the Changeling. It's a very warm mini overall, and that contrasts with the cool skintone nicely. My only complaint, I think, is the similarity between the scrolls and the bones. They're very similar in color, and I feel like it's a lost opportunity. That said, the fiery script is amazing, and the overall effect is quite sinister. Great work!

I just hope it helps me remember to actually use the Changeling's power during games. :P

This week I've settled into a little more commission work. My buddy wants me to paint Lelith Hesperax for one of his friends and I figured I whip it out in a pretty reasonable amount of time. The player's color scheme is black & purple, but I've taken a little liberty with Lelith's hair & makeup.

Another thing is that I've never actually timed how long it takes me to paint before. Now that I'm doing commissions I figured it'd be helpful to know, So I've been turning on a stopwatch each time I'm actually working on her (not including dry times) The pictures above are taken at 2 hours and 37 minutes. I figure i could probably have her done by the 5th hour, although that'd mean that I'm charging less than minimum wage for my time.

Re: Scions of Destruction (Chaos Daemons)

A few updates: I took a few vacation days to spend a weekend at a local con. I got my butt kicked, but looked good doing it:

I spent the three days prior to the con painting up my Be'Lakor Bloodthirster. It's the fastest I've ever blown through a Monsterous Creature, & I think he looks pretty good (Particularly for the short amount of time spent):

Finally, I finished the Lelith mini for my buddy. here she is.

There's another 40k tournament this weekend & I'm going to push to get my 3 Bloodcrushers painted up in time for that. Once that's done my whole army will be painted, which I don't think I've ever done before.

Awesome painting on everything. Is Be'Lakor painted in the same manner as the blood letters?

I also really like the necron you painted up, are we going to see more of them in the future?

Yep. I used the exact same method on Be'Lakor as on the letters. I imagine I'll do the same for the crushers too. Id considered painting the wings purple to mirror the purple wash on the letters, but I thought the brown would ultimately look better.

To which Necrons are you referring? If you're talking about the black/gold warrior, then maybe. If it's the Deceiver, then probably not. That was for my local store painting competition, & it belongs to the owner there. I suppose it's possible if he wants me to do more for him though.

I'm loving the progress on this one, Be'Lakor in particular came out very well. That red is really vibrant and the sword is a nice touch.

Thanks, the lava look is something I've done for a while, & it seemed like its be a great fit for the thirster

Popped in to my local game store today & picked up a Cairn Wraith today. "What for?" you might ask?

I plan of making a few chariots, so this weekend I plan to pick up a Tzeentch Herald on Disc, and instead of the guy that comes with the disc I'll be putting these guys on top. Left is a Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord with a hand swap (I didn't much care for the sword that came with the mini), and to the right is the Wraith conversion.

Very cool indeed! I recognise the Horror parts, but what is the cowl from?

Edit: Ignore me, I'm an idiot... Just re-read your post and I see it's from the Cairn Wraith. Nevertheless, my original statement stands: very cool indeed!

I just modified the post to add another mini I'm planning on using as a Herald as well.

I like to think so. I got the idea from several plogs in Xenos: These Necrons (small pic at the bottom of the first post) & the "Necrorks" although I can't find that particular mini on his log now.

I don't think I'll be able to actually finish my Bloodcrushers for tomorrow, but they will be mostly complete. I managed to paint the bloodletter's skin, the metal undercarriage/appendages, & the black shading on the carapaces.

All that's really left to do is:
*bone on the hooves, claws, teeth, & horns
*Purple gums on the crushers & tongues of the letters
*the fire outlines on the crushers carapace
    *the gold accents

Not a whole heck of a lot, but there are three guys to paint, so it takes some time.

Wish me luck on the tournament.

Those Bloodcrushers are looking good so far, I'll be looking forward to seeing them completed so I can steal some ideas for my own crushers The second herald looks good too, that's the Chaos Sorcerer model right? Best of luck in the tourney, here's hoping the dice gods favour you!

Feel free to steal to your heart's content. The tourney wasn't fantastic had one devastating loss, & one close win.

On the plus side one Crusher is done, and the other two are nearly complete. Here he is:

In all honesty I'm not as enamored with him as I'd hoped. A few niggling things are that the eyes are too much like the rest of the model (I might have to paint them green so they'll pop a bit) and the subtle grey tones I'd added don't really show up, so there's a bit too much contrast for my liking. I'm warming to it, but I'll probably go back over with some grey highlights on the black.

Otherwise I'm pretty content with the crushers.

On a different subject This month is the beginning of a new, short-term project log: Muninn's May Mini Madness

I'm going to try to paint/finish a mini a day every for the entire month of May. Daunting considering my snails-paced painting, but it's worth trying.

The black is a little flat and the eyes don't pop, but I think you're missing the forest for the trees here. The overall effect is a bold and powerful mini and you've really captured the idea that the daemon machines are powered by a raging inner fire. I wasn't sold on the concept before, but I've completely come around. It looks great!

I think you're being a tad hard on yourself with the crusher, I think he came out great! The colour scheme is a bit different to what you normally see, but still very much in theme. That said, I do see what you mean about the grey highlights, it does make the black look *a little* flat, but I think the colours work really well together and it's a wonderful model overall.

I think your latest project is definitely going to be one to watch too: I don't think I could manage a model a week, let alone a day!

Thanks, now that I've finished with my May project I'm ramping back up to finish my other two crushers.

Speaking of which, the challenge/project went splendidly. Here's the finished calendar that I updated every day once the mini was completed & photographed

If you'd like to see the actual day to day progress & full sized shots Here's the link.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Daemon log.

I had the chance to refresh & recalibrate my plans a little bit, & I noticed that one thing I wanted to make my list more versatile (& more easily transferable to fantasy) are a few more Daemonic Heralds. I have five planned at the moment: Two Tzeentch Heralds on chariots and three Heralds on foot (Khorne, Slaanesh, & Tzeentch).

Here's the progress on the foot-sloggers:

You can see that the Herald of Khorne is actually a previous edition Bloodletter Champion. They're big, they're beefy, and they stand out nicely compared to the plastics, so I figured he'd make a great Herald.

The Slaanesh Herald is the Masque. You can't go wrong with a special character to fill the role of your Herald. Plus if I ever felt like adding the Masque into my army list I'd have one at hand.

The Tzeentch mini is the oft-maligned finecast Herald that comes with the Disc. It's pretty darn expensive, so if I was going to shell out the coin for the disc, I was going to make use of the mini too. It's actually not a shabby little model, & I think it'll look pretty nice once I apply my Blue Horror scheme to it.

    & Here's the first Chariot:

You can see he's pretty much just blue-tacked in place at the moment, nothing glued. I ordered a pair of 60x100mm blank assault bases from Dragon Forge, that should serve perfectly. I attempted to draw in the bases on the photo below the mini. I really like the way the guy is turning out, but one of the things I'm not totally fond of is just how high up the mini is. Sure he's on a flying chariot, but he's gonna be really visible and get shot. A lot.

More when I have the chance.

Re: Scions of Destruction (Chaos Daemons)

Now that I've taken my little break from painting I got back in the saddle today.

This is an Arjac Rockfist that a friend commissioned me to paint a while back, He's actually been complete for a few months now, I was just waiting to put the finishing touches on the base, which I completed last night.

Arjac is a highly detailed mini, and one of the first Finecast minis I worked with from start to finish. Given the fine detail & delicate resin, I ended up pouring a lot of time into just the prep work before I even got into the painting. If I were to do it again I'd scrap the glowing runes I painted onto the hammer and shoulder. It's neat, but takes away from the overall feel of the mini.

This blog is awesome. Your daemons are magnificent! I'm waiting to see how the new heralds will look like after some painting. Also, the Talos-daemon has given me inspiration to make similiar daemon prince Deceiver-harlequin was great! Reminds me of the Laughing god-deceiver that was in WD some years ago. Keep up the good work! This has been very inspirational!

Thanks, I'm glad you've gotten some ideas from my work, because that's what this is all about. I can't tell you how many great ideas & tips I've gotten from going over other people's plogs, so I'm just happy I could do the same for others.

It's been a while since I last updated. A few months ago I started a small miniature's blog, and have been failing to update my project logs along with it. Longs story short: I'm not dead, just blogging.

Since my last update quite a bit has happened like 6th edition, Dark Vengeance, some commission work & a FLGS painting competition. The most important thing though, is that my wife & I are expecting fraternal twins.

My short list of potential names include: Luke & Leia, Romulus & Remus, Mario & Luigi, Padma & Parvati, or He-Man & She-Ra

    Back to the minis though.

I've started back in with my Keeper of Secrets Conversion, and here's how he looked as of two days ago:

I decided to make a few changes:
    * I no longer like the shoulder spike. The mini had enough jutting spiky bits, it didn't need two more to distract attention. I fashioned jewels for the brackets of the shoulder guards instead
    * One of the big selling points of the mini is how it hovers above the base. To give it a little elevation I tipped over some imperial bastion terrain and attached the flying base to that instead.
    * Once they were in place, the tentacle clusters made the torso look too small, so I added a pair of hip plates from parts on the Talos sprues. This will also help when it comes to painting to be able to pull colors from the upper body to the lower body as well, hopefully giving it a more uniform look.

Since then I've been working on the base, using greenstuff to add elevation & extra detail bits.

The last thing I'm waiting on before getting into painting is a spear. I decided that the Prince axe, while burly and violent, doesn't really fit with the aesthetic. Slaaneshi daemons should be impaling enemies, not chopping them (subtle, I know). Instead I'm going to do a weapon swap with a spear from the Tomb Kings Necropolis Knights box. I don't know if it'll fit just right, but I should have the bit in the next few days, and we'll see then.

Either way, the mini has come a long long way, and I'll be excited to get it to the next stage.

Re: Scions of Destruction (Chaos Daemons)

I finally got the spear, and now he/she/it is done (modeling-wise that is). The spear fits a lot better aesthetically, and is a lot less distractingly huge.

Now all that's left is a little bit on the base (adding more sand & a bit of razor wire), priming, and painting.

He's behind a few other projects, but I plan on using it for an upcoming painting competition.
