Dwarf Slayer! A special model for a new army

Hello, I am pretty much set on starting a new dwarf army in october, thought it would be a nice army to go along with my Empire that i am painting at the moment.

Anyway to inspire myself i thought i would finally get round to painting the 2006 Games day model that i've had sitting around since then. Always liked the model and now that i feel i have perfected most of my painting techniques i thought it would be a good way to motivate me to do dwarfs, plus with the new Avatars of war plastic slayers i may treat myself to a tasty looking unit of slayers with this as a unit filler (i do have the demon head but not stuck it on yet to make painting easier)

anyway this should be a pretty short Plog tbh, just the one model, i have a selection of other old bits of dwarf bits from when i had a slayer army for the Storm of Chaos campaign if i get a good response to this i may get out the old goblin hewer anyway hope you like Its in early stages

Stage one painting tallarn and ogryn wash

    Stage two tallarn highlight

And this is the flesh done, was just a gradual small highlight of dwarf flesh and tallarn mix, then dwarf, then a final thin highlight of dwarf flesh and bleached bone mix

Hope you like him so far, quite enjoying painting him, if anyone has tips on doing ginger hair i can never seem to get it quite right. Going to do his pedestal/demon head as a blood thirster which i may start on later tonight, any feedback is welcome

It's looking rly good , and I'm looking forward to see your dwarfs in October.
Theres plenty of ways to get the ginger-ish color. I have a lot of Slayers my self. I've used various different recipes, to make each slayer stand out a little..

I can share my favorite one if you like..
Now .. I dont remember any specific dosages, but its goes from Dark flesh -> Blazing orange -> bronzed flesh. I normaly finish it off with a final highlight of clean Bronzen flesh.. Looks rly good, although when you think about it , the color is not very close to Orange

Hope that made just a bit of sense Looking forward to see how it works out for you mate!

I really like the model. Are you going to be adding an Axe, or another, equally large weapon to his base? It would be cool.

Thanks guys, I'll play around with ginger hair i think, mix it up amongst different slayers would be best, not sure if i will do more with the base will do something to try and make him shiny. Though i have taken some pictures of the complete model so you can get an idea of full look.

gonna paint it seperatly for ease.

Now i just need to work out a colour scheme for my actual dwarfs... :S

Dwarf is nearly finished, just trousers and books to do pretty much, sorry about picture quality can't seem to get it quite right

Hope you like, or if you have any tips or anything, found a little stash of a mix of dwarf models including the special edition White Dwarf model from the 300th White Dwarf which i think i'll paint up.

Will start on the demon head tomorrow i think and sorry for the thumb

Sweet! Can I ask you what colurs you used for that dark ginger beard? I want my jade wizard to have one that dark it looks better than the bright in my op, more realistic.

He will make a cracking unit filler for your Dwarves.

Dont forget your empire though, that nordland army is gonna be superb

haha thanks, just thought i'd take a break for a day :P.

Yeah the hair was if i remember right was mechrite red base, a baal red wash, then dry brush mechrite, and gradually adding blazing orange to the mix until you reach just orange and then a final high light of blazing with a small amount of iyanden darksun, then to bring it back down and blend it a bit another wash with baal red and jobs a good'un.

I will paint some empire tomorrow i think, must not get to distracted by prospect of new and not paint it (which is why most my 40k armies are less than half done)
