Low calorie soldiers (a Vampire Counts, Empire and Mordheim plog)

    Hello Warseers,

In the absence of a better title, here is my Warhammer-themed plog - another distraction from my Necromunda and Space Marine plogs. I'm working on a skeleton-heavy Vampire Counts army (no squishy recently deceased here) - here are a few example of what I've been working on: skellies and a vampire on foot:

The vampire is nearly done, apart from a few little details - any constructive criticism appreciated. I might try to sculpt hair and a ragged cape on him, but otherwise I think his armour is a good balance between ornate and practical, as benefits a psychopathic ethernal man-bat thing ("Behold the creatures of the night" etc.)...

    Take it easy Warseers...

gotta say, the vampire looks really good, damn good job on the sculpting, i like him alot

i look forward to seeing him painted, i think it will turn out really good if you paint him to the same standard as the skeletons, i'll be following this plog closely

I agree with No-One. Alot of fun to be had with sculpting Vampires. I like what you did with your Marines, so I'll go ahead and sub this.

What parts did you make that vampire from? Very interesting conversion

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

The vampire is based almost entirely on Empire Militia components (arms, legs and torso), all shaved down and used as a base for sculpting. The sword comes from the Empire Wizards kit, and the head is a Beastman Ungor with the back of the head resculpted. I'm quite happy with the head, as it looks human but savage...

Minor update - the vamp is done! I couldn't be bothered with a cape (I should have thought about that earlier), but I'm otherwise satisfied with him. He can be used as a Konrad substitute at a pinch...

Any ideas for a paint scheme? Blood red or dark blue with extreme highlights?

Re: Low calorie soldiers (a Vampire Counts plog)

my vote is for the dark blue with extreme highlights, the blue ties in with your skeletons you have already painted, though you could do the red to counter their colors

personally i prefer to tie in

Great looking vampire - you're a very skilled sculptor! I also like the name of your plog, which made me look in the first place .

    Looking forward to seeing more!

How about dark blue with extreme turquoise highlights? I'd go with that one, makes it stand out more, but still convenient enough to slam into a block of Skellies with his Tomb Blade and Undead Macarena - combo.

    Cheers,
    Goat

Re: Low calorie soldiers (a Vampire Counts plog)

Cheers guys! The vamp is finished - I went with Goat of Yuggoth's suggestion for dark blue armour. The highlights aren't as extreme as they could be, but overall I'm satisfied with him.

Striding onto the battlefield, with his sparkling pearl necklace and oversized baby rattle, he strikes fear into the hearts of men...

Work should eat into my hobby time this week, but I'll try to finish my first unit of skeletons before I start something more interesting. Take it easy Warseers, happy hobbying

Actually, no, it's just my first unit of skellies. In all honesty, it's not even that, as I've still got to make and paint the champion - I'm tempted to paint him like some sort of wight so that I can use him for Mordheim. Any ideas how I could do that? I was thinking of a glowing sword (maybe) and glowing eyes (more likely).

Anyway, this is going to be a work heavy week, and I've got a few Sisters of Battle to paint up (I picked a great time to start collecting those), so undead work will resume once I pick up another box of skellies and a necromancer. Does anybody know if the hooded driver head from the Corpse Cart model will fit (without too much hacking) on the new necromancer model?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll post more updates as soon as I've got them. Take it easy, happy hobbying

    Hello Warseers,

In my skeletons' seldom-updated quest to take over the world, I've made a couple more helpful things: a bearded Necromancer (he's raising money for Movember) and a converted Cairn Wraith - here you go:

Shoddy camerawork (as always), but hopefully you can see the changes on the Wraith - scythe repositioned and hourglass hand added. I've always been a fan of Terry Pratchett books, so a tribute to Death seems appropriate. There are also some roses sculpted on the base to tie in with the hourglass (given the cruddy photo, you might just have to take my word for that).

Anyway, enjoy - hopefully I'll have a few things painted by next week. Happy hobbying/graverobbing Warseers

Wow! Great looking stuff so far! The wraith is brilliant, I may have to nick the idea for my wraith hero. The blue on the vampire's armour turned out really nice.

Damn right the beard rocks! Actually, I think I only added it because I have a compulsion to convert things, even if the final product doesn't look as good

Thanks for the feedback guys! Quick update, as I painted the first wraith, and here he is:

I don't know if you can see the roses on the base, but they look quite good in real life. Got one more wraith to paint (as assembled as is), then it's back to skeletons...I'm trying to stop myself from starting a Necron army, but that won't last for long.

    Happy hobbying Warseers
