I tried the Iron Daemon last game I played, I will be honest even hellbound I didn't find it to be that good. It simply can't put out enough damage either in shooting or in combat to make it worth the points IMO. I guess you pay for the versatility to do both but personally I would rather something that excelled in either.

Shame really as the model is awesome, I may still pick one up though.

You dont think then that even swapping out the cannons for combat version makes it worthwhile for extra d6 or impact hits?

That way it can really dish out the pain on turn it charges; another benefit of making it combat only is that it means it can never misfire and suffer the extra 1d3 wounds for being hellbound as it has no weopon to fire that requires artillery dice.

Model for combat version has already been designed/made - cant remember where, might be on different forum but someone has picture of it form open day at forgeworld.

True however it can only ever do impact hits OR the smashy attack, so you are still relying too much on the random element IMO. You could get 12 sure, but you could also get 2. Average of 7 hits (Not even wounds) just isn't enough to break most units, and for similar points monsters I would take a Hellpit/Hydra/Steg/NecroSpinx etc over it any day.

yep, for very few extra points you could take a kdaai destroyer who is a combat monster

arent you also paying for the possibility to put your other warmaschines on carriages? More Hight, other rules(to come)

at least thats what i read out of the official pdfs

dont know what other changes take place when you put 'em on steamcarriages

The whole evil train idea is kind of tempting.

without seeing actual rules for train i struggle to think how it could be useful.

The Rules are on the forgeworld site. Not being able to move and fire kind of detracts from usefullness. I do like the wrinkle though that if the cars are in combat and the Iron Daemon is not you can simply pull them out of combat.

I think if you could move and fire it would make the whole train thing very tempting, for most of the carriages it wouldn't make a huge difference due to the long ranges etc but something like the magma cannon would benefit hugely.

But as the rules stand now, unless you are playing a game on a 24"x6" table or something then it is really useless.

I could see carrying a car with a couple magma cannons and dropping it off near the flank of enemy lines. This would maximise the short range of the magma cannons. Then you could charge in with the combat kitted Iron Daemon.

sounds great...except most games are on a 6x4, and flanking with the iron daemon just isnt going to happen.

its an awesome looking points sink. would look great on the table, but achieve nothing

Hmmm. More i think and hear about the chaos dwarf army, less appealing it seems rules wise. Models are awsome but rules are not exactly making me content with the list and I am far from being wowed by them. Increasingly seems that there will be 1 consistent build run by all with maybe some minor personal choices thrown in because of models.

Re: Chaos Dwarfs Forgeworld Army List

my idea was more that the weaponry would be higher on the carriages allowing you to shoot/see over your own troops even without hills

depending on terrain/army that could be extremly usefull

not sure though if it is worth the points, it realy depends on you army compositon

you wont see over chaoswarriors if your on the ground, on the carriage you might

a big IF hangs in the air, because we're missing proper scales for all modells

a friend of mine looked into doing a bull centaur heavy list, had a nice fast moving horde unit of them, 2 units of blunderbusses, kdaai, wolf riders and a sorcerer lord on a lamassu. the front rank had something like 20 attacks, with additional attacks from the 2 ranks, and then stomps. all with half decent armour saves.

train would look awsome on tabletop but that is about all it would be good for.

Also concerning flanking with two magma cannons - train gets slowed for each thing it drags plus it could easily be stopped by single unit

You can put two magma cannons on one car without a movement penalty. I use the Dwarf cannons from battle for skull pass and they fit nicely on a converted car.

It seems like an ID would be a great decoy and distraction for your opponent. You can get him to commit a lot of resources to it and it's not easy to take down. Kind of like a mini-stank.

Hopefully CD will have much more to offer than the pretty damn good artillery. The FW models are looking great, can't wait to see some core.

Re: Chaos Dwarfs Forgeworld Army List

I'm sorry for the threadomancy but I just dont see how the iron daemon is anything but good. It's toughness 7 with 7 wounds and a 3+ armour save that does 2D6 auto hits in combat if you give it the skullcracker that are str 8

you cant thunderstomp a unit of wolf riders. a unit of 60 something points could hold up the train for several turns.

but I still like it actually. particularly the cannonade because it can absolutely obliterate monsters and ogres. the tarpit aint bad either.
