I was basically going to use the Warhammer Giant, but make him extra frosty and beardy
Funny someone mentioned the Reaper minis, I'm not really a huge fan of the one posted by Pumpavius, perhaps with a new head/weapon it could make for a nice Tyrant conversion. Though one of Reaper's minis did catch my eye, the Frost Giant Warrior.
This guy.
Tyrants are all well and good but the main Lord of my army will likely be a Slaughtermaster. I really dislike the GW Slaughtermaster/Butcher model, so I want to convert my own and was thinking of using that guy as a basis (heavily converted of course, fat belly included).

If you fully read my post I actually explain what I used to make the base but it's just a mix of high-density blue foam and slateThe foam was carved into shape with a hobby knife and corroded with plastic glue for a rocky texture and slate chips were superglued to the outside edges of the foam.
The Bruiser, slate slab and foam were all bonded together using Araldite (a two-part epoxy resin that forms a nigh-unbreakable bond).
Adeptus Battlegrey base, generous overbrush with Codex Grey, overbrush with Fortress Grey, then a light drybrush of Fortress Grey/Skull White mix on some edges.

really like these ogres, usually i dont like the technicolor ogre thing, anything other than pale or flesh colored tends to bug me but these look awesome
could i bug you for your recipe on the armor/metal, that dark look is really great
Gnoblars as Smurfs that's a brilliant idea :P
It's a piece of cake.
1) Full coat of Boltgun Metal
2) Wash generously with Devlan Mud
3) Highlight with Mithril Silver
Allow to dry completely between stages and job done! Sometimes I will do multiple washes/highlights for characters and models that require more detail and tone.

haha! this is the same idea I had for colours, I think you are pulling it off better than I am thoughits nice to see some other blue ogres
Gorgeous!! The BSB conversion is amazing, and the gnobs are looking great so far as well. Keep it up!

Great start on your Ogres and Gnoblars. Very good colours, although perhaps some purple-ish cheeks and noses would have made them even better. Somehow, the Ogres make me think of Warcraft III, but I can't guess why.
That BSB is really looking good.
My project log: To Infinity and Beyond
Here's a sneak peek of my Bruiser, he's about 80% done. Banners need painting, his arms, hands, feet and weapon need highlights. A few details require my attention and the base needs some snow, but other than that he's not far off completion.
Hope you like him so far!

The blue works very well. Are you gonna use another color through the army to oppose the cold colors?
I think the mix of cool browns, greys and blues works really well together and gives the army a consistent theme. There are some small details on certain models that I'm planning on painting in brighter colours to give a bit of an accent to the army. You can't see in the pic but the dragon scales on his banner are bright turquoise.
Apart from very small minor details though I plan to stick to cool and neutral colours.

Yeah it does look awesome. This color scheme does seem natural to ogres in a way!

Defo some of the best ogres ive seen.
Exellent colour scheme and that bruiser is just pure class!

Holly Molly, that ogre is huge!!! The metals are very well done, and the skin is quite original. Clean job man, keep it on!
