    My Freebooter's Fate log

Check them out properly done here: (http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/e...eebooters-fate)

I've decided to try my hand at a painting log - as I want something that I can actually finish in a reasonable length of time, I've chosen a small project for now. I won't actually start painting until the end of the month most likely. Why? Because I'm finishing up the last of my Ogre Kingdoms army - but as I started that project in 2009 and am one Ogre and a Giant away from completion (no new stuff for me, at least yet) that wouldn't make for much of a log. Plus there will be a zillion Ogre logs now - and as far as I can tell - this will be the only Freebooter's Fate log.

It was the Amazons that caught my interest in Freebooter's Fate, and I fully intend to get me some - but they aren't out yet, so I took advantage of Maelstrom's recent sale and picked me up some Imperials. Namely the starter set, a second batch of Arquebusiers, the First Mate, and the limited Edition Gypsy. I'm just spent the afternoon cleaning them and getting them primed.

You can see in these pictures:
    1) The haul
    2) The starter set unboxed
    3) The First set of Arquebusiers (that came in the starter)
    4) Captain Garcia (left) and "Teniente of the Armada."

The Arquebusier on the right surprised me by being a guy! I was under the impression they were both female. Now it has me questioning the gender of another ...

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

They went together pretty well - though I do have a few complaints. For the most part the mold lines were very scarce. The molded bases are a nice touch - and will save me from having to base them with rocks/sand/etc. Overall they are usually 1-2 pieces. Though the later produced First mate is actually 5 pieces, and has some poseability to him - though I don't know if this is a trend or not.

As you can see they all come with game cards, and the starter set comes with some quickstart rules (though I believe these are useless without the game card set). The starter kit also comes with tons of nice foam! I think the box would make a pretty decent way to transport your faction to and fro.

    Here you can see:
1 & 2 ) The second batch of Arquebusiers (the first of which I am now uncertain of gender - flat chested, but a shapely behind leaves me puzzled)
    3) The first mate (in pieces)
    4) The gypsy, a mercenary - and a limited edition one at that.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

My complaints - are: a nasty tendency for mold lines to cross the face - even if they are faint, it's a pain to remove them there, and the sculpted bases do not fit very well into the black plastic bases they are supposed to sit in. My dad has a grinder in his garage - which helped immensely - but I still couldn't get them to sit flush in most cases; checking the Freebooter site -most of their sample models aren't flush either. Also - I had a few legs that needed bending, as they didn't line up with the holes in their bases. Oh - and for some reason limited editions apparently don't get the molded bases like everyone else - go figure.

Don't let my petty bitching dissuade you though - overall the models are topnotch I can't speak for the game itself though, as I'm more of a collector.

    Here you can see:
    1) The mold line going across the gypsy's face - she was the worst in that regard.
    2) The Teniente's legs not lining up with their foot-peg holes. A number of the Arquebusiers needed a gentle bending too. Oddly, all the rifles and swords were perfectly straight though.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

And before I forget - this is Qualani - the limited edition Amazon, and the mini that piqued my interest in Freebooter's fate. Qualani was the hardest to assemble miniature I've ever put together in my entire life (which, in fairness, of my entire life only the last 3 years have really had anything to do with assembling miniatures).

I really couldn't have done it without the help of Hendrik at Freebooter - who went well above and beyond support-wise. I really can't begin to say enough about how awesome Freebooter is in that regard.

    In pictues:
    1 & 2) - Qualani - with greenstuff, finally together
    3) - Qualani - all primed and ready to go (until she got put aside in favor of other projects)

I hope to have some more updates in the near -future! And the plan is to have these all painted by Christmas (except for maybe Qualani). So hopefully this log will be somewhat interesting for a while.

    Cheers!

Nice, I have the Imperial Starter and Qualani on my painting table as well at the moment.
Putting together the amazon was a bit of a challenge, although I think the way the pieces are designed is very intelligent and the pose simply fantastic.

Looking forward to seeing more. I've got the Imperials and Brotherhood myself. So you'll be going Amazons eventually?

Welcome to Puerto Alto, fellow Imperial.
May I ask why you hired the First Mate instead of Sergeant Escopeta?
IMO she harmonizes better with the Arquebusiers and she is not bad
close up either (looking and fighting).
I prefere that combination with Torpe thrown in for good measure.

    edit:
Well, it seems that my gun line times are over.
The Fool has been released and now I have to build Fool, Maid and Comtessa.

I actually only managed to get mine together after repeated attempts when I broke the middle-bar off the tree-arm (this will make sense if you've seen the pieces of the model). Before that I couldn't get the torso aligned at all for some reason - so I just had to put a really long pin in the tree-arm.

I plan on getting them, yes. But really I could see myself getting some Brotherhood and Pirate faction action too - depending on what is released for them. I'm really hoping the new wave increases the number of deckhands for the existing factions - both in new choices, and different sculpts of the existing choices so that I can get more than one. (I've been completely spoiled by having 6 different Arquebusiers to choose from).

    - Because he looked cool I Do want to pick up the Seargeant too at some point, and the Comtessa and the Fool too I think. I'll likely never actually play the game - so it frees me from having to worry about effectiveness.

I had a similar problem, because there was a big chunk of metal on that middle-bar that wasn't supposed to be there, but I didn't know how much of it I had to remove. So mine didn't align properly, either, and the back is slightly messed up... I hope it won't be noticeable once she's painted.

I had filed the crap out of the bar - and also drilled a giant cavity in the upper torso to get it to fit right - and neither helped. But once I broke it off it was like "oh, that's simple." Now my Qualani has a creamy greenstuff center and a crunchy outer shell

Hendrik at Freebooter minis swore to me that the many assembly problems with Qualani have been noted and won't come up again in the future. But then I broke the foot off my one-piece gypsy too and had to pin that.

So I'm 2/2 in screwing up limited edition minis!

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

A quick update - not much of one really but I did make some progress, and wanted to make sure I didn't forget about the log entirely.

Basically - I finished my Ogres, and now my Imperials are next on the painting block! Yay!

Also - as you can see in the picture. I got them primed! That counts for something surely.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

At last an update! Sorry - it's been a rough few weeks (and a 50+ hour work week last week) have pretty much kept me from getting anything done.

But I finally managed to wrap up the first of the Arquebusier. (see attached)

I'm not overly-thrilled with how he turned out. Plus once I had him mostly painted I noticed a huge mold-line I missed on his face - so I had to scrape that off and repaint half of his face. I'm happy with how the boots and the gun wood turned out - but not a whole lot else. It seems like the white primer flakes off easier too. Sorry - but the light seems to have washed out a lot of his upper skin tone. (It's always either that or waay to dark of pictures)

Still - it's nice to be 1/7th done with my Imperials already! I'm liking this whole <10 models a faction thing.

Another Arquebusier finished - this is the androgynous one. His light blonde hair and shapely ass on the Freebooter site really had me thinking he was a she. Darker hair helped to make him look more manly.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

Arquebusier #3 done - I was nervous about this one - I've never really painted a female mini before. I even went for a bit of eyeshadow! (Not that you can see it in the picture *sigh* I need to invest in a light box of some sort)

This is the first one I'm pretty happy with. Odd how different it can be painting a slightly different sort of mini than what you are used to. I feel like I'm getting my bearings a little though.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

Finished Arquebusier #4 and with that the "grunt work" of the force. I'm over halfway done and only have 3 models of the Imperial force to go!

I've got my Amazon starter box (+ Qualani) to work on in the new year too. I'm hoping to have all of the Imperials done before Christmas. Which seems like a very low goal of 3 models, but I know last year around the holidays I got zilch done.

    Nice work.

I really like the Freebooter miniatures range and subscribed to this log the moment I saw it.
Freebooters Fate is probably the game I'd really like to try next (I own the core rulebook, but never got a chance to actually play a game ).

Looking forward to the rest of your Imperial force and the Amazons.

    Re: My Freebooter's Fate log

Update time! I will fail utterly of my very modest goals of getting the last 3 Imperials done by New Years. Boo. With <3 weeks to go and a Christmas project taking immediate priority, and a 6 day work week this week - it's just not going to happen.

But I did manage to get the First Mate done - and I think he turned out pretty good!

I should (fingers crossed) be getting a light box for Christmas - so that I can hopefully get better shots of what's been done so far. But in the meantime - here's the First Mate.

Nice painting and good to see a plog for this game.

I still have to read the rules to decide on a fraction but in time I will get some as well.

Yes - almost the entire Freebooter range is by Werner - the few exceptions are listed on the Freebooter site as "sculpted by".
