    Memnons' Daemons of Chaos

    Hi!

Hopefully this is the start of my very first project log: Chaos Daemons!

The plan is to have 1500 points ready to take to Games Day on the 25th. With just over half the models painted, I felt that a little boost from the community might spur me on.

Assuming I've got this right, here is the Changeling:

More to come if this has worked, if not any help would be nice!

    And another update.

This is my Herald of Slaanesh.... on a chariot

Herald of Slaanesh1 by SteJohno, on Flickr

Originally it was to be a Daemon Prince but stood next to the actual prince model he looked a bit, well feeble. A quick scan through the codex gave me the perfect profile for a snake-bodied monster as the chariot adds wounds, a decent armour save and the Cavalry unit type.

What do you think though? WYSIWYG important or not?

Great idea. I don't think you'll have much problem with it as long as you explain it to your opponent beforehand.

Excellent Herald! I agree with the above post. I doubt it'll be an issue so long as you are clear as to what it is.

    More I say, More!

Here we have the troop fillers. Soon to be 2 units of 7 Horrors (the other command group is on the painting table), I chose these guys as the models are great and a 4+ invulnerable save is invaluable for objective holders!

3 more in the works plus other bits coming soon. 10 days to go, eeek!

Those are some hot pink horrors. They're certain to get some attention on the table top.

Is your Thirster metal or resin? I've been looking into the finecast, but have been hearing mixed reviews. I imagine it really pays off for the bigger models so you're not having to pin those heavy wings onto the model.

Neat Slaanesh herald too, I assumed it was a Keeper of Secrets til I read your post. There's plenty of great stuff that can be converted for daemons. like I think the Dark Eldar Sslyth would make a great base for a herald as well.

Its metal... and a beast to assemble! I got it before the finecast one was released

Initially it was going to be a big beastie but it just looks a little weedy compared to the thirster and his mates

    Re: Memnons' Daemons of Chaos

    Thanks for the replies guys!

Ok so its 1 week to Games Day so I'm showing you the last of my finished mini's and a little WIP shot for the next couple of days.

First up- Chaos Spawn. Originally I was just messing around with a green paint scheme but it looked so nurgley that I intended to use it as a Beast of Nurgle. A quick chat in the tactics forum later and I've settled on him being the result of a Boon of Mutation.

Also complete is the first of my Daemon Princes, this one being of Tzeentch

Daemon Prince of Tzeentch by SteJohno, on Flickr

I'm quite pleased with this guy but there's something about him I want to change, I just can't put my finger on it. Any suggestions?

Finally, after a couple of days frantic effort, this is how the rest of the force looks:

    WIP1 by SteJohno, on Flickr

3 command Horrors, 1 Khorne Herald, 3 Bloodcrushers, 5 Bloodletters and the Slaaneshi Daemon prince.

Completed shots due by wednesday so keep watching!

Thanks again for your comments, they really do help.

Hey Memnon, that's some handsome work right there. The purple on the Slaanesh herald especially caught my eye. Looking forward to see those Bloodletters painted!

PS. do you always prime white?

Edit- ps2: how did you get your pics working Memnon? I'm struggling with the same thing!

    Re: Memnons' Daemons of Chaos

    Hey!

Cheers for the response. I have only just recently made the switch to white and its working out well so far. My daemons are 50/50 black and white undercoats. My upcoming Dark Angels will be all white undercoated ironically...

Pictures wise I posted in the Helpdesk and got a nice response from Darnok. I'm using Flickr rather than photobucket as all you need to do is this:

    1. Upload the image to flickr
    2. View the Image
    3. Open the "Share" tab
    4. Select "Grab the html/bbcode"
    5. Copy the code and paste it directly into your post on Warseer
    6. Preview the post just to make sure.

    Hope that helps!

Awesome log. Very nice painting there, i'm building some daemons myself. I have a question for you and a bit of advice.

Why are you taking an army to Games day? I personally wouldnt advise it as not only will you see a lot less if you are playing games, but the potential to lose things is far greater than most other places. I say this as an ex-staff member. If youve planned a game with someone you would never normally get the chance to play then thats cool but otherwise it just seems a bit of a waste.

    Re: Memnons' Daemons of Chaos

Thanks Inquisitor Kallus, always appreciate the feedback!

I game about 6 times a year when my friend and I get time off work/life to do it. I attended Games Day last year alone and pretty much did everything I wanted to in about 3 hours (including que time for the Ultramarine preview...). This year with my friend attending, I figured I could fill up the time (and justify the petrol) by playing a few games. Its also nice to have little deadlines for myself as I would never finish an army without them! Every few months we pop down to Warhammer World rather than our local store as

    a) its bigger
    b) it has a bar
    c) it has a bar

I'll admit I hadn't consider the losing/theft thing but I'll make sure to keep everything on me as I travel around.

    Cheers!

    Memnon

PS. Its also so all you kind warseerites can see this army in the flesh on the day so if you are attending, feel free to come over and say hi!

Also never realised how good a sepulchral stalker would work as a slaanesh herald!

    Thanks mate!

Yeah the trygon question has cropped up... I'm in two minds about it. Ideally I want to wait till the new Chaos Legion codex and do a Daemon prince version of Fulgrim using the soul grinder and trygon. I currently have a pre-heresy Emperors Children army so the plan was to do a "Mirror Force" where I create a before, and after the heresy, army. But thats a long time off yet...

Though the chance to have a keeper now is hard to pass up on....
