The 7th Circle Boys- Now With Extra Basilisk

so, after 12 or so years out of the hobby, i'm back. with a new army and a set of rules pretty different to those of the 2nd edition ones i used to know by heart.

hopefully this log will keep me motivated to get things made up and painted. so lets start with a few WIPs of an ATV. it's made from various odds and sods, the chimera kit obviously, forgeworld rear door, forgeworld turret and heavy bolter, a handful of sentinel parts, loads of plasticard and milliput, a wheeled conversion kit, and a few archer 3d decals to add some flavour here and there... (oh, and the axles for the wheels were replaced with chopped down barrels from the vehicle accessory sprue)

that last pic's a sneak peak of something around the corner... not exactly difficult to work out :P

I like the look of those rail things (never understood them really) but that Chimera looks great! I like the driver's hatch piece. Really a great looking kit.
Waiting for less nerd-rage directed towards Matt Ward since 5th Ed. happened.

The rails are to prevent a tank from getting hung up in a trench before the tracks can grip the opposite side. Without them, a trench of sufficient depth and width could immobilize a tank advancing or retreating.

Tanks aren't balanced... even if you get 'across' the trench, the rear section can easily fall back into the trench, leaving your treads without the surface necessary to pull yourself out. The trench rail helps prevent this...

    Excellent conversions by the way.

    Cheers,

    The Good Doctor.

    thank you everyone

yeah, the conversion kit is from chapterhouse. it was a real pig to use though, and took hours of work to make it fit nicely including cutting away all of the locating plates and axles and replacing them with the white plasticard you can see. i also had to resculpt a lot of it and replace almost a hundred rivets with new plasticard ones. the wheels however were fantastic pieces, and almost worth the price of the kit by themselves. its a pity as the concept and design are great.

    an update? surely not?

i thought i was just about finished with my fat little apc, but upon seeing the pictures i noticed i still have the vision ports on the hull to paint, then varnish and perhaps some more dirt. whenever i try and make dirt/mud though it ends up roughly the same colour as the tank itself, making a pretty bland model... hmm, anyway, pics ahoy!

You've done a really great job on that APC juxt, I like it a lot.
I really like the weathering, and the turret markings fit in perfectly.
The only thing, how about some mud on the wheels?
    Thanks for sharing!

    Fine conversion.

The armoured vehicle left very interesting.

That looks great, all the work you have obviously put into it has paid off.
The addition of the pieces of plasticard, to follow the detail of the rear door, works to perfection.
Topped off with a first class paint-job.

@Ostling, thank you, i really want to get some mud on the wheels, but all the mixtures i've made up end up looking the same colour as the paintwork. i think i'm going to try again today and see what colour i can come up with... it really does need muddying

@Dimetry100, thanks. the vehicle to the left is just the regular sentinel model, with a few minor conversions to the exhausts and the main cab. to bring it more into line with the old sentinels from 2nd edition 40k

@ash thanks, along with the treadhead thread, your's has been one of the ones to inspire me most into getting back into 40k. i'm really quite proud of the plasticard continuation to the rear hatch panel, such a simple addition really.

    @pickle_mole, thanks a lot

That is great work! I think I prefer your conversion over the GW one.

Extremely awesome man! I wish your work to be a plastic kit...

    thanks for the encouragement guys

i've just painted up two crewmen for a baslisk i've almost finished. in my army all tank/artillery crew are going to have breathing apparatus and goggles, gloves too.
i'm going to have to retake these photos i think, just not good enough

i should have the basilisk itself finished in a day to two, so this is just a little teaser really :P

Re: The 7th Circle Boys- Now With Extra Basilisk

thanks Deamon-forge. i'm really pleased with how it turned out.

so i finally finished the first of three basilisks and got the crewmen attached to it, photography is again lacking, but in this dull british autumn, daylight is a bit hard to rely on :P

next on the list? basilisk 2, and then maybe an enclosed one to finish off the squadron.
